What Research Tells Us about the Museum Experience
Gallery Talks Target Clusters: participants,
independents, and
enthusiasts Gallery talks appeal to visitors with some art background who are eager for information and perspectives exchanged in the company of others. Artists discuss the creative process, art historians compare iconography across cultures, and curators talk about the development of an exhibition based on a theme. In preparation for gallery talks, Museum staff draw on FEA research to review visitor characteristics with speakers. Mindful of the difference between gallery talks and lectures, staff invite visitors to engage with the speaker and other visitors by asking questions, and they encourage speakers to allow time for discussion.
