A MESSAGE FROM LEADERSHIP

At the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, we see every day how nature can inspire, restore, and bring people together. In 2024, we saw record attendance, major growth across our education programs, and real momentum toward our goal of being one of the world’s premier display gardens.

This was an incredible year for the Dallas Arboretum and my first year as President/CEO. Each season delivered something worth noting, renewed plantings across our 66-acre urban landscape, festivals that drew record crowds from across the region, and the start of key capital improvements that will elevate how visitors experience beauty, science, and sustainability throughout the garden.

Our work extended well beyond attendance. Conservation efforts expanded, sustainable practices advanced, and participation surged across school field trips, adult learning programs, and volunteer engagement. Membership continued to grow, reinforcing the community’s belief in what the Arboretum provides.

As we look ahead to 2026 and the blockbuster exhibition Hunt Slonem: Bunnies, Birds, and Butterflies, we are reminded that the Arboretum is more than a place to visit. It is a living classroom, a sanctuary in the city, and a catalyst that deepens the community’s connection to nature and to one another.

None of this progress happens without the commitment of our members, donors, volunteers, and partners. Your support drives this work forward.

Together, we continue to cultivate a garden for all.

Sincerely,

Stewarding Nature and Sustainability

In 2024, the Dallas Arboretum strengthened its leadership in environmental stewardship and horticultural excellence.

The Arboretum’s horticulture and grounds teams advanced sustainable irrigation practices, enhanced soil health through composting initiatives, and expanded pollinator habitats throughout the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden.

Native and drought-tolerant species were introduced across multiple gardens, underscoring the Arboretum’s commitment to climate-resilient landscapes. Infrastructure improvements supporting sustainable operations and maintenance were implemented across its 66-acre campus.

These efforts reflect the Arboretum’s long-term commitment to responsible stewardship of White Rock Lake and the surrounding environment, inspiring visitors to connect with and protect the natural world.

Advancing Horticultural Leadership and Learning

The Arboretum’s pursuit of excellence drives innovation in education, research, and professional development. In 2024, the Arboretum delivered over 200 classes, workshops, and lectures, spanning topics from botanical illustration to sustainable garden design.

The Arboretum upheld high standards in horticultural display, education, and program design. Its education team collaborated with regional educators and school districts to provide TEKS-aligned learning experiences that connect classroom concepts to the natural world. Teacher workshops and field investigations promoted inquiry-based learning, while adult and youth classes supported lifelong engagement with science and the environment.

Partnerships with the Dallas Independent School District and regional universities expanded in 2024, offering hands-on experiences for K–12 students and continuing education opportunities for teachers. Signature programs such as the Summer Science Institute and STEM in the Garden reached over 100,000 learners, emphasizing exploration, problem-solving, and real-world application.

The Arboretum’s horticulturists, educators, and curators maintain one of the most diverse plant collections in the Southwest, ensuring the Dallas Arboretum remains a center of botanical excellence for generations to come.
