Honours

SJFA East Region North Division Winners: 2012/13 & 2016/17

Up until the end of the 2005–06 season, Kirriemuir Thistle played in Tayside Division One of the Scottish Junior Football Association's East Region. The SJFA restructured the leagues prior to the 2006–07 season, and Kirriemuir found themselves in the twelve-team East Region, North Division. In the first season they finished eighth in the division. Kirriemuir were promoted to the East Premier League for the first time after winning the 2012/13 North Division. This was just one year after Dalkeith had been [promoted from the South. Kirrie returned to the North division for the 14/15 season where they finished 14th. The following season however, they competed well and finished third, only 6 points off eventual winners Downfield. The 16/17 saw Kirriemuir winning the league on goal difference and being returned to the East Premier league for this season. Earlier in the season when the clubs met in the reverse fixture, Dalkeith ran out 1-0 winners with Ryan McQueenie scoring the winner for the jags.

Management News The Jags are in search of a new management team for next season following the resignations of Kevin Haynes, Andy Donlevy, Dale McCall and Ross Combe after yesterdays home win against Dunbar United. Kevin and his team have agreed that they will step down at the end of the season after our two remaining games. Whilst disappointed with their decision to leave the club, we respectfully accept their reasons for doing so and have reluctantly accepted their resignations. Both Kevin and Andy were part of our League winning side in season 2011/12 and made the transition from playing staff to management team just over two and a half seasons ago. The club would like to express our sincere thanks to them for all the hard work they have done during their tenure here and they will always be welcome at Kings Park. The Jags are now seeking applicants to fill the vacant positions any interested parties should contact Club Secretary, Duncan Purdie by emailing dunx1892@gmail.com

MATCH REPORT

Thornton Hibs 1 - 0 Dalkeith Thistle April started well with fantastic wins against Bathgate and St Andrews, but that revival was short lived as three straight defeats this month have followed to put the Jags within touching distance of the bottom four clubs in the league. There will be no relegation for Dalkeith as the club is moving to the East of Scotland League next season but we had hoped to leave Junior football on a high. The club now has four remaining games to salvage something from what has been a very disappointing season on the park. Having said that, the Jags started brightly against a young Thornton side who are enjoying a good season in the East Premier, and on the back of this result are holding out for possible promotion to the Super League. The game flowed from end to end at a decent pace with both sides creating good opportunities in the first quarter. Stewart Adams struck the cross bar with Dalkeith's best chance from the edge of the penalty area - the ball seemed to cross the line as it hit the ground and bounced out but the referee disagreed. Thornton took the lead five minutes before half time with Ben Anthony on the break holding off his marker well before firing past Connar Easton. James Laing was fouled in the build up and Dalkeith felt aggrieved that play was allowed to continue. The second half continued with much of the same. Dalkeith enjoyed more possession than their hosts but couldn't find an equaliser despite creating several chances. Tempers frayed towards the end as frustration threatened to boil over with eight bookings in total including five for Dalkeith in what was a physical match but played in good spirit, as Thornton battled to earn the three points and gain revenge for a 3-0 reverse at King's Park earlier in the season. Disappointing to leave with nothing having put a lot into the game, we now face Whitburn at home in midweek..
