Hey Kapatid Title: Hey Kapatid! I Dalisay Giovacchini commit to producing a 5-act play. The major themes of my play are love, star-crossed lovers, death, and family.

My play is set in the Philippines in the future (2500).

My central characters are: •

Amihan

Sinag

My plot summary (briefly) Amihan a young hunter finds herself and her family moved to the Philippines. She goes to Kapulungan to find her assignment when she meets Sinag. He is also a hunter who is devoted to killing the Halimaws. It starts off as a friendly competitive relationship, but as they get to know each other more, they start to fall in love. The climax of my play is: when both characters realize that they were actually siblings The ending finds my central characters: Amihan is dead and Sinag finds out that they weren’t actually siblings.

Hey Kapatid Act I scene I The scene starts at the Kapulungan, a grand assembly room, with many doors and a grand stair case leading upward to more rooms. The room is mostly empty. Amihan stands with her parents Linda and Romero in front of a cubicle with the director of assignments: Pinuno. Pinuno is wearing a suit. Romero and Linda are wearing hunting gear, which consists of black leather everything (black stretchy pants, a thick shirt, cut-off gloves, peripheral glasses and glowing weapons. Pinuno hands Linda a device (IFolder). Pinuno:

Here you go. This is the information that you will need to start your assignment.

Linda:

Thank you Pinuno. We are grateful to be back in the Philippines.

Pinuno:

We are glad that you guys came. We are really in need of your skills and experiences here in the Philippines, specifically because it has been getting harder and harder to protect the humans.

Romero:

Well, we are here for the long run. We need to spend more time with the family and in our home, especially now.

Pinuno:

I know what you mean. It’s been crazy these past few weeks; which is one of the reasons that I now work here, behind the scenes.

Amihan:

Don’t you want to participate in killing the Halimaws? If it is so bad out there, why are you in here?

Linda:

Amihan that is very rude. Pinuno’s job is way more important than it seems. He works very hard to make sure that we know what we are up against, and makes sure that we have enough information not to die in the field.

Pinuno:

(Chuckles. To Linda). It’s quite alright. (To Amihan) Maybe not now, but one day you will need information and come to me for it. (Amihan starts walking off, but stops when Pinuno says). And only then you will realize the impact of my job on your life (Pause) and don’t forget to come here tomorrow, for your assignment. Amihan walks off the stage.

Hey Kapatid Act I Scene II The next day, Amihan goes back to the Kapulungan to get her assignment and her partner. Unlike last time, the Kapulungan has people walking and talking, mostly teens. The room is buzzing with the hum of “first day blues” for the new comers to the system. Pinuno enters the room stands in front of the staircase waiting for the room to be silent. He is holding two IFolders The room becomes silent Pinuno:

Good morning ladies and gentleman. I’m so glad that you are here today. Some of you are fresh out of school while most of you are here for new assignments. As per usual, assignments will be given in IFolders. It is important that you do not lose this piece of paper because you won’t be given another one. Old timers you can collect your IFolders in room 84. New timers and transfers (looking at Amihan) you may come to me to receive your assignments. There is a moment of silence before the room becomes active with people rushing out of the assembly room. Only 2 people are left in the room: Amihan and Sariwa.

Pinuno:

Ok. Good morning ladies. You two are the new transfers we have today. You will both be receiving a folder with the profile of your partner and your target. You will not be each other’s partner, as you need people with more experience. (Hands them the IFolders). Off you go. Your partners will be in the other room and will be waiting for you at the end of the room. (He exits the room quickly).

Amihan:

Well that was brief. (Turns around to find Sariwa looking a bit panicked). Hey, are you ok?

Sariwa:

(Hesitates) Um…. I don’t think so. (She says it stuttering)

Amihan:

Why? Is something wrong?

Sariwa:

No (shakes her head, then sighs). I just don’t think I can go back in the field.

Amihan:

Why not?

Sariwa:

Never mind.

Amihan:

Look if you’ve encountered problems with them before you can tell Pinuno. He can probably give you a desk job. But that’s not going to help with your worries or fears. The only way you will get over the trauma which you seem

Hey Kapatid to have had is by taking it step by step slowly getting back into the habit. Besides, your partner is sworn to help you. You will get through this. Sariwa:

(Lets out a small smile) Thank you. (Offers her hand out) I’m Sariwa.

Amihan:

(Shakes her hand) Hi. I’m Amihan. Now let’s go before we get into trouble. (Exits the assembly hall and enters room 84)

Act I Scene III The room has two very long desks in the corner forming an L. The desk contained the IFolders, but now has few scattered on top. The room is more modern than the assembly hall. It had the moving walls and the screens everywhere. There are people chatting around the room and two people are at the end of the room: Sinag and Laya. They are chatting lightly. Amihan and Sariwa approach them both. Laya:

(Smiles widely) Hello I’m Laya, and this is Sinag.

Sariwa:

Hi… my name is Sariwa.

Amihan:

Amihan (Momentary awkward silence)

Laya:

Ok, so Sariwa… right? You’re my partner.

Sariwa:

(looks at her device) Yeah.

Laya:

All right, well (turns to Sinag) take care. (To Amihan) Nice meeting you, hope to see again sometime. (To Sariwa) All right then let me show you around then we can get started with the assignment preparations.

Sariwa:

(looks at Amihan) Thanks again. See you. (Sariwa and Laya exit. There is a momentary lapse of awkwardness)

Sinag:

Alright, so like Laya said I’m Sinag. Lucky for you, I will be your partner for our assignment.

Amihan:

(scoffs.) Yeah.

Sinag:

I’m the best one they’ve got.

Amihan:

Not for long.

Sinag:

You wanna bet?

Hey Kapatid Amihan:

(smiles confidently) You’re on. The person with the highest number of Halimaws killed gets-

Sariwa:

Whatever the other person decides. (Grins)

Amihan:

(Grins as well) Deal! Be prepared to lose.

Sariwa:

Well we better get started then. (Opens up his IFolder). Alright, looks like we have to do a general sweep. (Smirks) They only give those to the best. Looks like they know what they are doing.

Amihan:

You got that right. Good so we have the Kapres, Tikbalang, Manananggal, Tiyanak, Aswang, Puting Babae, (…). Whoa! Awesome! You get the whole lot.

Singa:

Yup except the water Halimaws.

Amihan:

We’ll eventually get it. Let’s get go. We have a bet to get on with.
