Welcome to Popcorn Falls, a small American town, whose only claim to fame - their namesake waterfall - has dried up. Now bankrupt, their last chance to save the town is a large grant that can only be used if the town produces a play in a week. In one week with no playhouse and no play it’s up to the mayor and a janitor to lead the citizens to prove that art can save the world or at least Popcorn Falls. Community theater and small-town life come in for some ribbing in Popcorn Falls. Joe Hanrahan and Shane Signorino, the Mayor and Executive Custodian, must take charge and ensure that the eccentric townspeople produce the play and save their beloved town. From the Midnight Company Joe Hanrahan and Shane Signorino portray all twenty-one inhabitants of Popcorn Falls. Thursday, April 11 through Saturday, April 13 is the final weekend for Popcorn Falls at the Kranzberg Arts Center Black Box Theater located at 501 North Grand Blvd in the Grand Arts Center. For complete information about this event and to purchase tickets please visit kranzbergartsfoundation.org on the web. The Kranzberg Center has many more events and activities in the Grand Arts District so be sure to check out all the other programs that they offer.

The two are trying to find happiness in a world that seems to have gone crazy. Theirs is a partnership based on telling the toughest stories, and together, making a difference. But when their own story takes a sudden turn, the adventurous couple confronts the prospect of a more conventional life. Can they stay together amidst unspoken betrayals and conflicting ideals? Playwright Margulies answers these questions, while leaving unanswered qualms regarding the way America deals with war and tragedy coverage. Science Fiction & Fantasy Short Film Festival – May 3, 6pm

St. Louis Science Center http://www.cinemastlouis.org/saint-louis-science-fiction-fantasy-short-filmfestival Cinema St. Louis (CSL) and the Saint Louis Science Center are excited to announce the second edition of a science-fiction and fantasy short-film contest — an opportunity for regional filmmakers to let their imaginations shine. This juried competition will award cash prizes to the top three entries: $500 for Best of Fest and $200 each for Best Sci-Fi and Best Fantasy selections. The winning shorts will then be featured at the Science Center’s First Friday: Movie Magic program on Friday, May 3, 2019, and will screen in the Science Center’s OMNIMAX® Theater. In addition to the three cash-prize winners, additional works will be chosen to screen throughout the First Friday program. A jury of film professionals (filmmakers, film scholars, film critics) and scientists will select the finalists, including both the three cash-prize winners and the additional films. Jury members will be announced on CSL’s website. Cinema St. Louis will also consider the submissions for inclusion in the St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase in July (held at Brown Hall Auditorium on Washington University’s campus) and the St. Louis International Film Festival in November. The cash-prize winners and additional awards in the program will be announced on Friday, May 3, 2019, at the Science Center’s First Friday: Movie Magic.
