To Whom It May Concern: I am writing to express my interest in Landscape Architect position with CSS. I am currently pursuing a Master of Landscape Architecture degree at University of Pennsylvania with anticipated graduation in 2018. I chose to study landscape architecture because I believe in the role of landscape in the shaping urban development with beautiful interventions that contribute to both social and ecological sustainability. CSS’s philosophy of design excited me for the same reasons. I strongly believe that I could be an excellent fit at CSS. During undergraduate years at University of Massachusetts, I had great chance to learn about urban planning project with Professor Ethan Carr and Jack Ahern. I was so fascinating about positive effects came from the large frameworks of urban planning with green infrastructure. I learned that proper urban planning foster healthy environment for the community and specify cultural identities of the community. Also, the urban planning frameworks can respond to economic, social, and ecological constraints. This experience led me to enter graduate school to extend my academic career in landscape urbanism. At PennDesgin, I tried to focus on my study about landscape designs that respond to the urban constraints while creating vibrancy for the challenging places. In my last two studios with professor Christopher Marcinkoski, I proposed a design for series of public open space that can be transformed by the community and reflect their own life. I have always believed that beautiful and well functional open space can bring the vitality of the city, and I was trying to test my belief through this project. In addition, as a landscape architect, I have selected my courses to develop an ability to analyze ecological concept and process. I am interested in ecology because design with understanding ecology could create a healthy environment that enriches the quality of life for both human and wildlife. I would be thrilled to use my background in landscape architecture to contribute to the exciting work at CSS. I am looking forward to having the opportunity of meeting with you in person to discuss my skills and experiences. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Da Hee Lee
