LOVE BLUE/LIVE GOLD

APRIL 2018 IN THIS ISSUE

Greetings! I attended the funeral Mass for Joan Wiederholt, Class of 1970, this week at Sacred Heart Church, and it was a very fitting celebration of her life. Joan had been very active at Bishop Amat, volunteering in many different areas, and just giving her time wherever it was needed. Her greatest love, though, was helping out at the camp and pre-game meals for the Varsity football team for the past 25 years. One of her classmates spoke at the funeral and described all of the trips their group went on together over the years. Fr. Jim Kelly, Class of 1970, presided at the Mass with our President, Msgr. Carroll. There were many of her classmates in attendance, some professional colleagues, as well as many former players who had experienced firsthand the love Joan had shared with them during their time at Amat. There were also about 40 current football players in attendance, as well as many current faculty and staff members. As I was taking all of this in, it occurred to me that this is what Amat is really all about. The journeys all of us take are important, but who we take them with is way more significant. Joan and her friends were introduced to each other back in high school, and they have been together ever since, sharing their lives with each other all throughout their individual journeys. It was inspiring for me to witness, and it made me want to reach out to a few of my classmates that I haven't seen or talked with for some time. It reminded me just how important my days at this school as a student have been to my own journey, but more importantly, the roles my classmates have played in shaping who I am today. I am grateful to Bishop Amat High School, and want our school to continue to grow and meet the needs of our current student body so they will have similar experiences as Joan and her classmates have. What role can you play at Bishop Amat today? How can you ensure that our school continues to be as significant today as it was for you? Please get involved in some way and help our

New Performing Arts Center Above is a rendering of the proposed Performing Arts Center. Msgr. Carroll has been diligently working on the logistics to make this a reality for our campus and our students. The location of the new building would replace where the current Faculty House is located, with the front of the building facing Fairgrove Ave. The demolition of the current Faculty House is tentatively scheduled for June 2018. This will be a tremendous

blessing for our school! More details will be forthcoming about a capital campaign, where all Alumni and Friends of Bishop Amat High School will be able to participate to make this much needed addition to our campus become a reality. Stay tuned....
