LED THE SIERRA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS TO A PERPECT 10-0 REGULAR SEASON AND HEAD UP A 33-PLAYER DIVISION I (BIG 5 CONFERENCE) TEAM RELEASED TODAY BY FIRST INTERSTATE BANK ATHLETIC FOUNDATION. Although defeated in the second round of 'the Big 5 Conferenoe playotts, Los Altos was one of on1y three conference teams to go undefeated through the regular season•••Edison and Big 5 champion St. Paul being the o'thers.. In regular season play quarterback Blake Smi1ih. a repea1ier from the 1980 Division I team,. was the Beuthern Section1s leading passer witi1 179 completions for 2613 yards and 30 touchdowns. He completed 70.5 ;g of his "throws. Steve Lauter was on the receiving end of 71 of Smith's aerials in regular season play. He netted 1301 ya't'ds and scored 19 touchdowns. S-teve was also an ou-tstanding strong safety. St. Paul, with five players on this year's honor team, won the Con.-. ference title 30-9 over Citrus Belt League champion Col1ion. Colton is represented by three players as are Los Altoe, Edison, Bishop Amat, Fon-tana and Marina. Awards will be presented to all Div. i_J SCHOOL TO THE SOUTHERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP 31-24 OVER EL MODENA, HAS BEEN NAMED DIVISION II PLAYER OF THE YEAR BY Iv'fF1\ffiERS OF FmST INTERSTATE BANK ATHLETIC FOUNDATION'S ALL-SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BOARD OF FOOTBALL. TEMPLETON, FHO GAINED 1,473 TarAL YARDS DURING THE REGULAR SEASON AND 102 POINTS, RUSHED FOR 100 YARDS IN THE TITLE GAME AND SCORED TfffiEE TOUCHDOWNS. Foothill (9-1), champion of the Century League over El ~tIodena (6-4), took three California tie-breaker over~imes to finally edge the Vanquards. The Knights defeated Kennedy (41-35), El Torro (23-0) and Villa Park (10-7) before their title struggle with El Modena. The Division II all-star team is composed of players representing the Southern, Coastal and Northwestern Conferences.

45TH ANNUAL FOOTBALL AHARDS PROGRAM AT CULVER CITY f-1EMORIAL AUDITORIUM JAN 23 Members of the Division II first team (offense and defense) will be honored guests at the 45th annual All-Southern California Board of Football Awards Program to be held at Culver City Memorial Auditorium on Saturday morning, January 23 at 10: 30 am. First team members together with their coaches, high school administrators, collegiate coaches and selection committee members will receive invitations to attend the presentation ceremonies. First Interstate Bank Athletic Foundation framed scroll awards will be presented to all honored players, with Division ~s and Conference championship coaches also receiving special recognition. Following the presentation a buffet luncheon will be served to all guests in the Culver City Auditorium complex. Sixty-two players representing 41 high schools are on this years Division II all-stars. Antelope Valley High School, winner of the Northwestern Conference title, landed four players on the honor teams •••• as did Santa Monica, Coastal Conference Champion. Bay League Champion Santa Monica defeated the defending Coastal Conference champion L.B. Poly Jackrabbits 21-8. Finishing the season 10-1-1, Teb Kusserow's Vikings brought their coach a title which had escaped h~ as a Samohi player 23 years ago. It was in 1958 that the Vikings, with Kusserow a sophomore tackle, lost to Poly in the Southern Section finals 31-19. The Vikings defeated San Gabriel (47-20), Dos Pueblos (12-0) and Hueneme (28-7) on their way to the Coastal crown. Northwestern Conference kingpins Antelope Valley defeated Burroughs of Burbank 24-14 in the title-decider. The Antelopes, 8-2 during the regular season and Golden League Champions, bettered Blair (21-7), Temple City (14-7) and Monrovia (17-15) before finishing off the Foothill League Champions. Antelope Valley concluded its season 11-2 while Burroughs was 10-4. Ralph Hilson, a superb two-way performer playing guard on offense and linebacker on defense, displayed the type of dedication which was the makeup of this year's Arlington (Riverside) team. Performing wi th a separated shoulder through most of the season, HIlson was the heart of the Eastern Conference Champions, a team that compiled a 13-1 season mark. Arlington, winner of -the Ivy League title with a 9-1 record, defeated Damian (39-15), La Serna (20-13), South Hills (29-7) and Rubidoux (23-8) in the title decider. Besides MVP vlilson Arlington placed two other players on the Division III all-stars. Runner-up Rubidoux in the Eastern Conference race placed four pla.yers on the team, whUe Claremont, a semi-finalist, also placed four. Mission Viejo, Central Conference Champions with a shutout (one of seven during the year) 35-0 win over Los .Amigos in the finals. South Coast League champions, the Diablos fine defe-nae shut out Mayfair 41-0 in the first playoff round. Then followed wins over Rancho Alamitoa (3}-6) and Bres (32-12) before the aeason-ending 35-0 blitz of Garden Grove League Champion Los Amigos. Mission Viejo recorded 16 first downs in the title game, while the Lobos first first down came mid-way through t.he third quarter. The Diablos placed three players on the Division III all-stars. Southeastern Conference Champion Indio, 21-20 wirmer over Ganesha the champions of the Hacienda League, placed three players on the Division III teams. The Desert Valleys Champion defeated Chino (61-7), Schurr (20-7), Royal Oak (16-13) and Ganesha for the title.

Allen, a 6-2, 185-pound senior, anohored a defense which coaoh Lalo Mendoza called "the key 1;0 our championship game win over Miraleste. ff Verbum Dei's Eagles defeated Mira1este 23-13 in the title game with fullback Richard Gwynn (also named to the Div. rv team) scoring three of his team's touchdowns. Free safety Allen accounted for 10 tackles for losses and 11 intercep-tions during 10 regular season games, as the Eagles compiled a 12-2 championship season. Desert High School, as Verbun Dei, did i1; with defense in "the title game against Tehachapi, allowing the Warriors but four rushing yards. The'Soorpions (11-1-1 for the season) scored a 15-3 upset to end Tehaohapi's dream of a perfect season. The Warriors ended 13-1.

off, led the city parade placing eight players on the honor terums ••• four on offense and four on defen~e. 4-A Division champion B~~ning (21-14 winner over Carson in the City finale) landed six performers, two offensively and four on the defense. First Interstate Bank Athletic Foundation framed scroll awards \~ill be presented to all first team players and championship coaches, while traditional bronze medallion awards will go to'Players o~ the Year. Greg Battle, 4-..~ IvWI', returns from a second-team linebacl{ing spo-t in 19BO o Battle registered over 100 tackles and assists in 12 games. He led coach Chris Ferragamo:fs Pilots to lrins over San Fernando (45-7), Gardena (44-7) and Carson (21-11~) for the title.

The Colts had defeated the Pilots 1}-12 during the season to stop a 3O-.e ame Banning win streak. Canoga Park fullback Bob Dyer carried 119 times for 764 yards and 11 TDs &. wi th 36 PATs s cored a city-high 102 points. Co-l'.wP in Dive }-A Eddie Lewis carried 151 t.imes from his tailback post for 1,058 yards and 14 TDs. · Garfield, }-O l.vinne~ over Jordan for' the 2-A ·Division cro~m, is represented by two players on this year's city team with one, linebacker Bob Gazmararian named division MVP. Bob had over 140 tackles and assists, plus 15 sacks and five interceptions.
