[Lieutenant] [Governor] Hey There Polar Bears! My name is Ricky Ta, and I am your new Lieutenant Governor of Division 6 South, for the 2016 - 2017 term. I have so much in store for this division. Sometimes I might sound a little crazy, or obnoxious, but you can trust me that I always have a method to my madness. Thank you, all of you, who are joining me on this amazing journey! I want you all to know a little about myself, if you already did not know me. I am Vietnamese-American, born in San Bernardino, California. I moved around quite often, but never left the comfort of Southern California. I joined Key Club not in Division 6 South, but actually in Division 4 North, during my sophomore year at La Quinta High School. Moving back to Moreno Valley, I decided my love for Key Club knows no bound of a single division, and quickly became apart of Division 6 South. A decision in which I can honestly say, was one of the best decisions of my life. And now I am Lieutenant Governor, of this division I fell deeply in love with, with this family, away from my family. As for now, I have many goals I would like to reach. Raising twice as much funds than last year, for the Pediatric Trauma Program. Reaching 7% more service hours, and still fundraise for Project eliMiNaTe. Other than these goals, I have many new systems I would like to implement to have a smoother running division. So you can stay tuned to see it happen. I am super excited to bond with every single one of you and I hope we have a great term together! Serving with a Roar,

[Introducing|the|New] [Executive|Assistants] Lilianne Maloles

Hey everyone, I'm super excited to be working as an Executive Assistant for the 2016-2017 term! Although I'm currently a freshman, I fully dedicate myself to Key Club and our division. I know that there's a lot of work to be done, but I won't hesitate to do my very best and to offer you all the opportunities of growing together and becoming successful. I'd also like to thank you for your cooperation and support, for I would not be the person I am today; I hope to prosper and increase my abilities and to encourage you all to have even more fun this term as we get started!

Cindy Tsai

Hello Polar Bears! I’m looking forward to serving you as an Executive Assistant of D06S’s 2016-17 term! A little fun facts about me is that I’m a runner in both cross country and track and field’s distance team. Along with that, I’m continuing high school while seizing great opportunities like being a part of key club and Interact. I believe anyone can rise from the bottom to the top or even beyond with hard work and dedication. As for the key clubbers out there, I am happy to guide you into your success in key club and the world. I hope to share my passion of continuous prosperity in this year’s term and meeting all of you. Good luck to all the Polar Bears out there as we continue this wonderful journey in this term. Thank you!

Bell Mountain Community Day The Bell Mountain Community Day is an annual festival hosted by the Bell Mountain Middle School just about 15 minutes from Heritage. Our Key Club thought we would get in on the action and help volunteer there! The members that went made posters to promote it and were assigned various tasks as needed. It was a nice and close event that really helped our very own communities. Meanwhile, some members were also at the Menifee Spring Fest, an annual Easter celebration, where they also aided in miscellaneous tasks such as painting Easter Eggs. Last but not least, to add to the packed day, a few of the Heritage members went to Andulka Park for the joint DCM with Division 6 North. Our sister division held our first and last DCM of the term together, and it was fun playing games and seeing members together! Written by: Christian Lam, Heritage

Spaghetti Feed Kiwanis’ annual event hosted on a Friday night brought new levels of bonding between the division members. The Spaghetti Feed was an impressive feature of teamwork. Whether the members were serving tables, ushering, or scooping ice cream, they all contributed to a monumental event. In the midst of chaos and the whirl in the moment, the cohesive unit rushed to get more spaghetti for the booked house of customers. In reaction to the shortages of both pasta and necessary utensils, members were quick on their feet to find solutions. Free ice cream was served and went in a flash as members rushed to fill cups for the patient diners. The president of the Linfield Key Club commented how “forks are [were] the commodity of the night!” The large crowd proved to be both a success and challenge, for the staff was unprepared for the incredible turnout. Regardless, all the members tackled the challenge with great alacrity. New bonds between the members as they watched along with the customers of a middle school band and a performance from Cole Criske, a contestant from the Voice. A middle school band also made a debut between the scenes and provided well-rehearsed songs during the course of the night. Even Kiwanis members performed 3 line dances in which they practiced in preparation for the Western night. Although hectic, the event had a great attendance, provided a fun experience for the Division 6S members, and created new friendships. Written by: Stephanie Lai and Paisley Trent, Great Oak

Spaghetti Feed In the month Of April, the Linfield Key Club participated in the annual Temecula Kiwanis’ Spaghetti Feed. The Linfield Key club was ecstatic to participate in the feed and happy to have a chance to serve the community and talk to fellow Key Clubbers. Over 300 people attended this year’s Spaghetti feed, the biggest in ten years! The Gardener Middle School band performed and the Temecula Line Dancing Club which included Linfield’s club adviser, Mr. Teagle. Over 7,000 dollars were raised! Linfield hopes that the Spaghetti feed will be the start of a great new term with lots of service and participation. The Linfield Key Club also sent six members to the end of the banquet, five of whom will be new officers this term. The end of the year banquet was an awesome experience, it was great to see all of the good that Key Club does for the community, and see all of the schools in the D6S. In the following week, Linfield will install new officers and retire our old ones. Linfield is looking forward to new term filled with fun, friends, and service. Written by: Shelby Salyer, Linfield

Officer Installation On February 20th, officer elections for the 2016-2017 term took place at Temecula Valley High School. As there were many candidates running, and many positions to fill, the elections took place over two weeks. All candidates had dedication into serving their club and worked very hard in their effort to secure a position. This hard work paid off, and every candidate running was able to secure a position. April 20th was a day full of emotion. Despite the fact that it was sad for the IP officers to retire and say their final goodbyes, it was also a joyous moment to see the new officers get formally installed into their respective positions. A total of 7 positions were filled, including President, Vice President of Communications, Vice President of Community Service, Secretary, Treasurer, Editor, and Historian. While all the elected candidates were only installed on April 20th, they still attended officer meetings and general member meetings for weeks in order to get insight on their club duties. “Key Club will be ingrained in my life forever, even though my term has ended. I have learned so much. I started out not knowing what an ERF was, and now I have learned that and much more about myself, my community, and most of all, Key Club. I’m excited for growth in the club under the new President Michaella Lanuzo” -Tayler Smith, IP President of Temecula Valley “Being president is an honor, being able to serve the community and my peers is truly a passion. I’m grateful to be able to do this through Key Club and it has truly helped me grow as an individual. I learn so much from my fellow leaders and members. I will continue aspiring to show others what key club has done for me, and I’m constantly inspired by what a simple community service club can do. The impact may seem small, but we have yet to see what the future holds. I’m blessed to have been given this opportunity and I can’t wait for this upcoming term” -Michaella Lanuzo, New President of Temecula Valley Written by: Adelle Guttierez, Temecula Valley

Bracelet for Charity Wednesday, April 13th, Paloma Valley hosted a charity bracelet making after school. Many members arrived excited to start making bracelets for children in hospitals. With yarn and cardboard, we succeeded in making 25 bracelets in all for the children. With only 25 bracelets made, 50 smiles will be made when the children receive the fashionable bracelets our dedicated members have made. This event was so fun that some members wanted to make some bracelets of their own at home to give to family and friends. Our members left the event smiling and happy knowing that they have made someone’s day with the colorful bracelets. “Everyone who came in a cheerful mood. Making bracelets for the children made my day and knowing that I will make someone else happy, made me happy.” Jackie Raymundo (Member) “As the first real event, I have had to host I am so proud of what we accomplished. The bracelets came out looking amazing and I know the kids will really appreciate them. This event was also a good moment for all of the new officers to bond and for the members to meet the new elects.” -Gabe Fabian (President) Written by: Leana Noelle Saldania

End of the Year Banquet For this past month, the Chaparral Key Club of D06S served the community through various activities. First off on April 8th, we attended the Spaghetti feed with our fellow Kiwanis and were able to work together as a team with other clubs to help out at a great event. For a great 2015-2016 term, our club attended the D06S banquet along with other clubs in the division for a final farewell at the Valley-Wide Recreation Center in Menifee. This was a fun and interesting event to have awards, entertainment, food, speeches, and lastly to see our supporting Kiwanis at the event. For those people around the world and in our community who does not have the ability to purchase full-priced apparel, the 2016-2017 officers have decided to start off the term with a clothing drive where we encourage members to donate clothes for a local non-profit organization to assist with those who need it most. Financially in our club, most of our funds come from the recyclables donated by our kind members. In this way, we are able to prosper in our club financially and become even more green with the earth. We, as a club, hope to continue our good deeds into the next month and beyond.
