cheers ~

pied-a-terre

fifth avenue

what the heck is a pied-à-terre anyway?

reveal

a pied-à-terre is a home away from home, a secondary residence intended for short periods of stay. whew! now that we have that out of the way, we want to show you the final reveal for our recent fifth avenue pied-à-terre project. when we first walked into our client’s space, we knew we had our work cut out for us. the apartment, located off of fifth avenue, is ideally located next to moma, which provides our homeowner’s with hours of art viewing and inspiration. the interiors of the apartment had good bones, but the space needed a serious refresh to achieve the contemporary and comfortable vibe our homeowners wanted. the couple wanted a space where they could feel relaxed at home yet energized by their new city views. they craved an abode that not only reflected their minimalistic aesthetic but was also spacious and functional enough to accommodate their adult daughter when she comes to visits. the before and after transformation is genuinely stunning...... ........turn the page for the inside scoop.

BEFORE here is what our clients wanted: • additional countertop space & cabinets in the kitchen with a kitchen island or breakfast bar • a sleeping area in the living area but not a sleeper sofa •a large walk-in shower in the master bathroom •overhead lighting in the entry, living room & kitchen •designated desk or table to work on a laptop but still be part of the main living space •comfortable yet contemporary furnishings with easy maintenance

AFTER here is what we did: • closed the sliding door opening in the kitchen to allow for additional cabinet and countertop space • added a small wall to create a sleeping nook • removed the bidet and bathtub to create a large walk-in shower • built soffits along the perimeter of the living room walls & added pendants at the bar to bring light • incorporated sofa back table in furniture layout to act as a work surface • selected clean-lined furniture pieces in luxurious yet durable fabrics that brought comfort & style
