Dunoon NGO give youth a shot in ďŹ lm industry

A
fter applying for funding a Cape Town non profit organisation was selected out of over 700 non profit organisations from around the world, emerging at the top to receive the United Nations Youth Solidarity fund
administered by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations. The MyDunoon organisation was one of only two organisations from Africa who were part of the hundreds applying for the sought-after funds. With the experience of seasoned filmmakers working for the organisation,
MyDunoon decided to utilise the UN’s youth solidarity funds in training youth in digital film production and introduce them to opportunities in the film and acting industry. 35 Youth from Dunoon, including South Africans and youth from neighbouring African countries were recruit-
ed to take part in the training that began in June and ran for three months, with lessons taking place on weekends at the Dunoon Sophakama primary school, thereafter going to locations within the township to film. CONTINUED ON PAGE 2
