u Noon soccer clubs lack proper football fields, yet they are still a shining beacon for local football talent in Du Noon kasi. Over the years, the Du Noon’s Spice for life Youth Academy Football Club which is under the Du Noon Local Football Association (DLFA), an affiliate of the South African Football Association (SAFA), has continued to surge. The Youth Academy is transforming the lives of both male and female children playing in youth football teams ranging from under 11,13,15 and 17. Considering the lack of sports facilities in the area and lack of football resources, it is timely to reflect on the good work that a club like Spice for life Youth Academy is doing to benefit Du Noon society. The academy’s under 13 team won the SAFA DLFA cup in 2013 and in 2014 the senior team won the Build It Tournament hosted by Build It with SAFA Cape Town. Mandla Tyobidyasi, 43, who is one of the founders of the academy, and is a football coach told D-Town that their seniors team has qualified to play in the South African Breweries (SAB) league which starts in August. “As founders of Spice for Life, we want to make a difference in Du Noon. haven’t yet produced a team playing in the Vodacom league now called ABC Motsepe League . By 2016 we need to be playing in the Motsepe league that’s a promise to our fans in Du Noon,” said Tyobidyasi. Alive Babe, 14, started playing for Spice for Life junior teams in 2012. Babe is a left footed youthful player and aspires to be a prolific midfielder and he idolises Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala also a left footed player. “Football is my passion. It keeps me away from indulging into immoral behaviour. I Want to be a professional soccer player and appear on television. That’s my dream. I want to be like (Siphiwe) Tshabalala,” said Babe who is in grade 6 at Du Noon Primary School. Tyobidyasi appealed to Du Noon local business to donate to the club as it is struggling to make ends meet. “Some of our junior players play without soccer boots,” he said. “Businesses must come forward and support us,” He also called on parents to go watch soccer matches when Du Noon teams are playing so as to boost the morale of their children. “We need the support of the entire community.”
