You Are Too SKINNY or Too THIN! By Reggie Collier Contributing Writer

w

hen someone tends to look drastically different or lose an excessive amount of weight, hearing comments about being too skinny or thin is something my clients, colleagues, fitness competitors and I hear so much. These types of negative comments about weight loss not only come from acquaintances, but some of the people closest to us. Even though people may be well-intentioned, it needs to be said that this diminishes the ability for one to enjoy their success and hard work. Also, it has been recognized that it is a lot easier to refer to someone as being too skinny than being too fat. It seems when we are overweight, out of shape, or obese, no one wants to throw their two cents in as much. I hate to say it, but this is even more prevalent in the minority communities. I try to remind my clients and friends how great they look, and others sometimes feel threatened by that. Try not to feel self-conscious when these comments are made to you. Believe it or not, others might see your weight loss as somewhat of a judgement of their unhealthy habits or obesity. Your healthy lifestyle is a wake-up call to them that they are not ready to face. Instead of facing their problems head on, their negative comments to you are what they need to feel better about themselves for remaining unhealthy. Some of these comments come from people who have their own lifestyle issues, and you may have be-

come a bit of a living reproach to them! However, you are definitely not judging them, you are just living a healthier life. Unfortunately, your healthy lifestyle makes them insecure about themselves. Because they don’t have the courage to start the process, they take their insecurities out on you. Even though people seem confident, they are living a miserable life inside. Instead of taking those steps to become healthier and getting out of their comfort zone, it is easier for them to bring you down by throwing shade or making sly remarks. We all know how the saying goes, “Misery loves company.” Don’t be their company. Don't listen to those negative remarks. They are just going to have to adjust to the new you. As long as you know you are doing what is healthy and what is best for you, that is what truly matters. For those of us who know, it isn't about the weight or the number on the scale. It is all about how you feel when you are more energized, stronger, and happier. As the people around you get used to your new weight, they'll come to accept it as your "norm," and the negativity should dissipate. If it doesn't, ignore

the noise, and rise above it. The important thing is that you don’t let anyone take you off of that path that is helping you live the best life. For more fitness tips from me or to experience Reggie C Fitness and be a healthier you, please visit me on the web at www.reggiecfitness.com.

Dr. Alison Scott

Houston’s Dental Implant queen By d-mars.com News Provider

D

r. Alison Scott fell in love with the dental profession while in her dentist’s chair at the age of twelve. She has been a dentist for over 25 years and brings a host of skills and talents to the profession. Her aim is to provide state of the art dental care, true compassion, and minimally invasive surgical options to her patients. Dr. Scott’s craft is dental implantation. It is a months-long process to get the dental implants placed, but this is done for her to endure the overall effectiveness and stability of treatment. Aside from consultation and recovery, Dr. Scott uses a 3-step process in which she: 1.  Places the implant Using either a cylindrical and/ or tapered post made of titanium, she surgically places them into the jawbone 2.  Installs the abutment Once the implant is settled in, she will install a post known as an abutment into the implant 3. Restore Finally, Dr. Scott will then create and connect the prosthetic tooth into the implants

Dental implants offer our patients a secured, aesthetically pleasing approach to replacing a missing tooth, restoring the ability to eat most foods, and the ability to smile with confidence. —Dr. Alison Scott The average dental office is limited to traditional x-rays, and basic equipment for the healing process. However, Dr. Scott’s office uses 3D x-rays to increase accuracy, and state-of-the-art equipment to accelerate the healing process and recovery process of dental implants. Dental cone beam computed tomography (CT) is a special type of x-ray used in situations where traditional dental x-rays just aren’t enough. It isn’t used regularly because the radiation exposure from CT scanners is greater than that of regular dental x-rays. The CT scanner uses advanced technology that generate three dimensional (3-D) images of the mouth in a single scan. The scan captures dental structures, soft tissues, nerve paths, and bone in the face. Images captured with our cone beam CT allow for more accurate treatment planning.

Dr. Scott is one of few dental offices in Houston utilizing state-of-the-art equipment capable of accelerating the healing period for dental implants. She centrifuges your blood to produce leukocyte and platelet rich fibrin (LPRF). This dramatically reduces the requirements necessary for patients to become candidates for dental implants. Most people think an implant is the actual artificial tooth - this is a common misconception. Let’s bring some clarity to how dental implants really work.

CommonlyAsked AskedQuestions Questions About Commonly DentalDental Implants About Implants What are dental implants? An implant is man-made material which takes the place of the root of a tooth on which a crown (single tooth), bridge (multiple connected teeth), or denture is secured. Divided into two basic groups, implants can be inserted into the bone or placed on top of the bone. The type of implant used is based on the amount of bone available. Who is a candidate for dental implants? Anyone in their mid to late teens and older is able to be fitted for implants, as long as their health allows. Even if you have been told in the past that you are not eligible for implants, Dr. Scott has the education, experience, and training necessary to work with you in order to give you the smile that you want.

How long can dental implants last? Dental implants can last as long as a lifetime with the proper professional maintenance and home care. Does insurance cover cosmetic and/ or dental implant procedures? Like always, this is dependent on your insurance plan, which is contracted between your employer and your insurance company. Fortunately, Dr. Scott’s office coordinator is an expert with insurance claims, and submits forms after each appointment in order to maximize your allowable benefits.

TheBenefits BenefitsofofDental DentalImplants Implants The Dental implants offer patients a secured, aesthetically pleasing approach to replacing a missing tooth, restoring the ability to eat most foods, and the ability to smile with confidence. Implants will not affect surrounding teeth like traditional bridges, and unlike removable dentures, there is no risk of the implants slipping out of place. As soon as treatment is complete, dental implants remain a stable and durable part of your smile. They also stop the bone loss that occurs where a tooth is missing and help to preserve the bone mass and density around the implant site. Dr. Alison Scott is your #1 implant specialist.
