T

he 2015 motocross points season usually starts with the long running Wisconsin Rapids motocross race at the historic Dyracuse Recreational State Park hosted by the Rapid Angels. The exciting news for the spring race was that Mother Nature finally cooperated, giving the fans and racers an excellent day for the event. Rain the week of the race put plenty of moisture in the track and the sunny 60 degree day made for the perfect mix. Morning practice started at 7am sharp with a crisp 32 degree wake up call. The Open A class was filled with riders from all around the district. In the first moto, several of the thirteen riders where up fighting for the lead. Joseph Dretzka, Dylan Ziolkowski, Justin Wolf, and many others were flying past the ski jump on the first lap. The grueling sand caught up to a couple of the riders as the six lap moto went on, making it a race for whomever could ride fast, and stay up the longest. When it came to the end of the race, Ziolkowski had inched his way to the top, followed by Dretzka, and Jacob Wiedmeyer. The second moto saw Vaughn Mays get out to an early lead after an unfortunate crash in the first moto. He was strong and steady for the majority of the race, looking set for a moto win. But the persistent

effort from Colton Karl kept him on his toes for the most of the race. Late in the race from out of nowhere Ziolkowski made a great move around both Karl and Mays to steal the moto win and the overall. In the moto he was followed across the finish line by Mays, Karl, Josh Philbrick, Wolf, and Justis Heckendorf. Overall results were Ziolkowski who won both motos, Karl’s 5-3 scores took second overall, Wolf consistent 4-5 scores were good for third ahead of Mays (11-2) and Heckendorf (7-6). In the Sportsman B/C (14-24) class, eighteen riders lined up, hoping for a shot at the first place trophy. In the first moto Alex St John and Nick Randrup where flying around the course, battling for the top spot. The two swapped positions throughout the race, with St John finishing on top. The battle for third heated up between Tyler Elliott, Tristin Fuerst, and Do- Dylan Ziolkowski after winning the Open a overall. minic Sorge. The trio were battling Randrup mastered the rough conditions for much of the moto before Elliott locked and had a solid lead over second place St the spot down. Fuerst and Sorge swapped John at the end. The battle for third was positions until at the end when Fuerst was on again, this time between Sorge and running fourth as the checkered flag came Brady Strum. The two where close durout. ing the race along with fifth place rider The second moto ran near the end of the Kory Sorge not far behind. They finished day, and the track was relentless as it that way, and Randrup’s 2-1 took the overclaimed a staggering ten DNF’s, including all victory, followed by a close second of first moto’s third place finisher Elliott.
