Alyona Levitin College Council Rep I'm a second year philosopher and currently nearing the end of my run as Admissions Officer. I want to be a College Council Rep because I think it is so important to maintain a strong link between the student body and the Council so that both can communicate effectively with each other. There's always plenty of things around college that are open to change and I believe that I can help facilitate finding the right balance between what the students and College want, and what is a feasible option for both.
There are several reasons why I'd be good in this position: •
I'm not afraid to voice the opinions of the college, but am also mindful of the opinions of others and am aware that a lot of the time what we are searching for is a compromise between two groups.
I may be loud, but I'm also not very scary – you can come and tell me about your thoughts, ideas and opinions on issues in college at any time, and if it's not something specifically to be dealt with at Council then I will happily pass it on to the appropriate member of Exec for you.
I have a good rapport with senior members of college and love to engage in a debate with people who actually care.
I am already aware of many of the current issues within college through Exec.
I want to make sure though that this awareness goes beyond that of Exec and through to the entire student body. I want to encourage more people to voice their opinions, and not only on things that they are unsatisfied with – College needs to know where they're going right as well as wrong. As well as this, I wish to communicate more of the reasoning behind the decisions of both Council and the students, because too often we are not properly informed, and if we were then these debates could head towards being resolved in a more efficient and effective manner.
