Walk in the footsteps of brave soldiers, visit key battle sites, memorials, and museums, and witness the deep gratitude still felt by the Dutch people today As we commemorate 80 years since the end of the war in Europe, join us to honor the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for freedom, while celebrating the enduring bond between nations forged during the liberation
2022 - 2023 ITINERARIES
The role of Canadians in the Victory in Europe during WWII was both critical and profound, contributing significantly to the liberation of Nazi-occupied territories, especially in the Netherlands. By the end of the war, Canada had one of the largest volunteer armies, and it's soldiers, airmen and sailors played an essential part in key operations that helped turn the tide in favor of the Allies
In 1944 and 1945, as part of the Allied campaign to push back German forces, Canadian soldiers led operations that freed cities such as Groningen, Arnhem and Rotterdam The people of the Netherlands suffered terribly under occupation, facing starvation and oppression, and it was the arrival of the Canadian troops that brought them relief and hope. This liberation forged an enduring bond between Canada and the Netherlands, and to this day, the Dutch honor Canada for its sacrifices with annual commemorations, including gifting 20,000 tulips to Canada as a symbol of gratitude The Dutch royal family found refuge in Ottawa, where Princess Margriet was born in 1943, half of the annual tulip gift is from the Dutch Royal family
The Dutch have never forgotten the sacrifices of Canadian soldiers, who not only helped to secure freedom in Europe, but also shaped Canada's identity as a nation committed to peace, democracy and international cooperation. In this custom designed tour, we will journey back to Holland to remember, honor those who served, reflect on their profound impact and courage, and in particular follow in the footsteps of those who served, our heroes - many of whom were lost in battle and are forever laid to rest in Dutch soil.
