YOUR ADVENTURE BEGINS DAY 1, MONDAY, MAY 13 - It’s a full day of travel to Lima, Peru. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the group hotel for a good night’s sleep.

WELCOME TO PERU DAY 2, TUESDAY, MAY 14 - Morning walking tour of the historic center of Lima, called the City of Kings. Your tour will include the Plaza Mayor, the Basilica Cathedral and Santo Domingo Church and Convent. Visit Chinatown for a peek into the history of Chinese immigrants in Peru, the fusion of two cultures and cuisines. Enjoy lunch in one of the local Chinese restaurants known as chifas. After lunch, visit the Larco Museum, a privately-owned museum of pre-Columbian art for an exclusive tour. The museum was founded by an avid collector to preserve ancient artifacts and protect them from theft by clandestine excavators. Enjoy a welcome dinner at a private colonial mansion that has been in the same family since 1535. 2 | Beekman 1802 Trip of a Lifetime: PERU | CWT Vacations

LIVING ON THE LAND IN THE SACRED VALLEY DAY 3, WEDNESDAY, MAY 15 - Fly to Cusco and transfer to the Sacred Valley of Urubamba. Here you will meet llamas, alpacas and vicuùas and learn how their wool is harvested, dyed and woven into the iconic, colorful textiles of Peru. Next, travel to a family-owned hacienda, where for three generations, the same family has cultivated Cusco Giant White Corn. Learn local, traditional farming techniques, and how challenges of the new century are addressed. April and May are harvest season in this region, so you’ll be able to see first-hand how the crop is harvested and processed. Overnight at a hotel in the Sacred Valley.

VISIT AN INCAN COMMUNITY DAY 4, THURSDAY, MAY 16 – Spend an enthralling half-day with the Quechua community of Huilloc, which is dedicated to maintaining their ancient Incan customs. You are invited to join the locals in learning about and participating in their daily tasks, such as farming, weaving, preparing meals, or interacting with children at the local school. Share lunch with your hosts and experience the warmth of traditional Incan hospitality, where visitors are made to feel like honored guests. Later, visit the Maras salt flats and the fascinating Moray terraces. 4 | Beekman 1802 Trip of a Lifetime: PERU | CWT Vacations

MAJESTIC MACHU PICCHU DAY 5, FRIDAY MAY 17 – Board the Vistadome train and enjoy stunning views on your ride up to Machu Picchu. After lunch, a bus will bring you to the Machu Picchu citadel for an extraordinary afternoon at this enigmatic valley. This evening, return to your hotel in town for dinner. 5 | Beekman 1802 Trip of a Lifetime: PERU | CWT Vacations

SUNRISE AT MACHU PICCHU DAY 6, SATURDAY, MAY 18 – This morning, you can join a three-hour, guided hike along one of the spectacular paths available at Machu Picchu. Hike a little over 10,000 feet above sea level for unparalleled views of the Incan sanctuary and panoramic views of the surrounding mountain scenery. Note that this trek is moderate to challenging. Neighbors not up for the climb may relax at the hotel and enjoy an optional spa* treatment. This afternoon, return to Cusco by train and check in to your hotel for a good night’s rest after the day’s adventures! *Spa treatments are not included in the tour price. 6 | Beekman 1802 Trip of a Lifetime: PERU | CWT Vacations

MODERN MARKETS AND ANCIENT RUINS DAY 7, SUNDAY, MAY 19 – Stroll from the Plaza de Armas to the Mercado San Pedro, one of Cusco’s most bustling and colorful food and craft markets. Among the dozens of stalls, you will have the chance to taste fruit native to Peru and meet a variety of friendly vendors such as: • Erlinda, whose family has baked artisanal bread for generations. • Vladimir, an expert in the local art of mask-making. • Angel, a vendor of quinoa and other Andean super-foods. • Vilma, who serves samples of local cheese with a warm smile. • Norma, who produces and sells her own locally-grown coffee and chocolate.

Next, you’ll enjoy a private mixology course and learn to craft the perfect pisco sour. After lunch on your own, visit some of the important ruins around Cusco, the capital of the Incan Empire: the fortress of Sacsayhuaman; Tambomachay, possibly an Incan spa due to the aqueducts, waterfalls and canals constructed here; and the “zig-zag” temple of Kenko, carved from a gigantic monolith of stone. 7 | Beekman 1802 Trip of a Lifetime: PERU | CWT Vacations

FROM THE ANDES TO THE AMAZON DAY 8, MONDAY, MAY 20 – Fly to the city of Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the Peruvian Amazon. You’ll travel by boat along the Madre de Dios River to your comfortable lodge. After lunch and a siesta, refresh yourself at tea time before beginning your exploration of the lush landscape surrounding the lodge on a guided jungle walk where you will discover the Amazon Basin. The trail winds past impressive trees such as the Shihuahuaco and the strangely beautiful strangler fig, offering excellent opportunities for bird watching and observing exotic insects. A twilight river cruise on the Madre de Dios River will show you another aspect of the jungle as day gives way to night. As you enjoy this paradise, you will learn about habits of nocturnal wildlife and search for nightjars, owls, capybaras and big caimans. Dinner is served at the lodge, after which, you may relax in the public areas of the resort. Tonight, let the hum of insects lull you to sleep. 8 | Beekman 1802 Trip of a Lifetime: PERU | CWT Vacations

AMAZON ADVENTURES DAY 9, TUESDAY, MAY 21 – Today’s activities include a morning excursion that will take you to Lake Sandoval in the Tambopata National Reserve, where wildlife surrounds you as you enjoy the one and a half hour walk along almost two miles of trails to reach the lake. Here you will glide in a canoe across a beautiful, mirror-like oxbow lake that is home to the endangered giant river otter, as well as red howler monkeys, macaws, prehistoric hoatzins, also called “shanshos”, point-tailed palmcreepers and yellow spotted side-neck turtles. After lunch at the lodge, you may choose to join a walk through the jungle canopy along suspension bridges linked by eight observation platforms. At 95 feet above the ground, you’ll enjoy landscapes and vistas that would be unimaginable from below, while on the look-out for giant strangler fig trees, orchids, toucans, woodpeckers, trogons and–with luck–birds of prey, monkeys or sloths. After your descent from the canopy, experience the Anaconda Walk for about 30 minutes along the 655 foot long wooden bridge over the wetland. In this lush ecosystem, you may observe the various species of amphibians, birds, mammals and abundant flora and trees of this seasonally flooded marshland. If heights aren’t for you, you may prefer to spend the afternoon at the resort spa* or on one of the other optional afternoon nature activities. Meet up with your Beekman Neighbors at dinner to discuss your adventures and discoveries of the day. *Spa treatments are not included in the tour price.
