How to Register

The Cowichan Valley Regional District’s Community Services Department offers three easy ways for program registration: online, by phone, or in person. Spaces are filled on a first come, first served basis. Registration opens on the date stated on the back of the guide. No early registration will be accepted. Payment is required at time of registration.

Online Registration:

To use online registration you will need an account and a credit card. If you haven’t registered with us before, please contact your local recreation centre to set up your family’s account. You can access online registration at www.reccowichan.ca

In Person Registration:

Please check our website for up to date information on in person registrations. You may call Cowichan Lake Sports Arena, Cowichan Community Centre, Kerry Park Recreation Centre, or Shawnigan Lake Community Centre during office hours and our staff will be happy to process your request. Payment by cash, cheque, VISA, MasterCard, or debit card is accepted.

Registration Policies & Guidelines Uh-oh, we had to cancel:

Regrettably, if a minimum number of registrants is not met, we may have to cancel or combine classes due to insufficient registration. These decisions are made prior to the course start date. Please register early to avoid disappointment. A 100% refund is granted when we cancel a program. When a class has been cancelled due to instructor illness or weather conditions, a class will be added on at the end of the session. If this is not possible, you will be issued a refund in the amount of the missed class.

Oops, changed your plans?:

A refund will be issued if we receive applicable withdrawal notification. Programs and lessons require five (5) or more days’ notice prior to course start date. Camps and certification courses require seven (7) or more days’ notice prior to course start date. If appropriate notice is not given, no refund will be issued. There may be other exceptions to these guidelines. In some cases, these exceptions will be noted in the individual course description. To request a refund, please contact the facility that is offering your program. All refunds are subject to a $5 processing fee.

Extended Illness / Injury and Missed Classes:

Please stay at home when you’re sick, even if symptoms are mild. In cases of extended illness or injury, a prorated refund may be granted upon provision of a medical note. Classes missed due to vacation, or other reasons will not be refunded.

Sorry, the course is full:

If a program is full, please ask staff to put your name on our waitlist. We will do our best to accommodate those waitlisted.

Customer Satisfaction:

We care about your experience in our programs. Please contact one of our Programmers directly to discuss any questions, comments, or concerns that you have with our recreation programs.

Refunds:

Payments made by credit card will be refunded by the initial payment method. Payments made by cash, cheque, or debit will be refunded by cheque; please allow a minimum of two weeks’ processing time.

Non-Sufficient Funds:

A processing fee of $5 will be charged on all N.S.F. payments.

Somatic Yoga & You: Awake, Aware, Alive

Somatic yoga is an approach to yoga that focuses on awareness of the body and one's thoughts and feelings about it; the essence of somatic yoga is to pay attention to and feel your body. When you really pay attention, listen, and feel, you transform your experience of pain, energy and wholeness into a more unified and manageable state. This approach is very personal, and transformative. This class is great for those with health challenges, and anyone wanting to be more engaged and objective in navigating the rapidly changing world we live in, and their personal experiences of life. Upon familiarization with the symptoms of stress and anxiety, a natural body response to anticipated events and threats is presented for both healthy and maladaptive coping mechanisms. Most of the workshop is devoted to practical (hands-on) management of stress and its effects on the body, mind and spirit. Numerous techniques of stress relief (including mindfulness techniques through breathing exercises, grounding, meditation, guided imagery, yoga and music) are taught. The best working tips on lifestyle changes to promote stress reduction and to create stressrelieving and stress-avoiding new habits are explained, along with instructions on how to implement them in everyday life!

Practical Concepts of Self-care and their Benefits

Proper self-care is essential for a healthy, enjoyable and fulfilling life, yet very few people practice self-care! Come learn and soon enjoy benefits of caring for you, for your own body, mind and spirit. This workshop outlines necessary step-by-step changes to implement self-care rules for improvement of body health, enhancing own appearance and energy, regaining a calm and relaxed mind and uplifting your spirit.
