The final two sessions of the season will encompass the program’s April 23 annual meeting and an April 30 session highlighting examples of participants’ creativity. In addition to its lecture series, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at American University offers eight- to 10-week study groups taught by members. The courses emphasize peer learning and teaching, and do not have any tests or grades. For a membership fee, participants may take up to three study groups that run during the day for just under two hours a week. Examples for the current semester, which began in early March, include “India: Culture, Traditions and Gandhi,� “Finding Your Family History on the Web,� “Paris: The City of Light,� “History of Western Economic Thought� and “The Music of J.S. The first event will feature local senior outreach and advocacy organizations. The program is designed to foster dialogue and connection — through conversation, memories and a sense of well-being — by having participants look at art and listen to music. The free, 90-minute tours are offered at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the second and third Mondays of each month, except in August and on holidays. At least one family member or caregiver should accompany the person with Alzheimer’s. The regular meetings are free; there is a fee for the luncheons ($10 for the June 17 event with sandwiches, salads and dessert). ■The Avalon Theatre holds a monthly “Senior Cinema Thursdays� series at 10:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month. Admission is generally $7.25 for ages 62 and older. This month’s feature is Neil Barsky’s 2012 documentary “Koch,� about the iconic three-time New York City mayor.
