Cultural Liverpool walking tour The city is full to the brim with history, art, music and theatre and a walking tour will bring the buildings and institutions that shaped Liverpool to life. On William Brown Street, you will certainly be impressed by the stunning architecture on display from the imposing Grade I listed St George’s Hall, the amazing Central Library where historical reading rooms meet state-of-the-art 21st century design to the Walker Art Gallery, home to one of Europe’s finest collections of paintings, drawings, sculpture and decorative art. A stroll along Hope Street will allow you to take in the visual splendour of the Liverpool Cathedral and the Metropolitan Cathedral, with a tempting selection of independent eateries to enjoy on the way. In the city centre, the Bluecoat Arts Centre is a 300 year old building offering a cultured programme of visual art, literature, music and dance. Grade I listed, St George’s Hall opened in 1854 and is widely acknowledged as one of the finest neoclassical buildings in the world, with its magnificent 720sqm Great Hall gilded with chandeliers, stained glass windows, barrel vaulted ceiling and famous Willis organ. Liverpool Town Hall was constructed between 1749 and 1820 and is a Grade I listed, flagship building in the Castle Street conservation area of the city. It is one of the finest surviving 18th century town halls in the country and is often frequented by Royalty and visitors from around the world. National Trust’s Speke Hall is a stunning example of a Tudor manor house with restored Victorian interiors. Situated in a unique setting, it is surrounded by attractive gardens protected by a collar of woodland. Constructed by a devout Catholic family, who were keen to impress visitors with their home’s grandeur, this beautiful building has witnessed more than 400 years of turbulent history.

Charming Chester & Port Sunlight
Chester sparkles with a magical heritage. Completely encircled by city walls, archaeological excavations have revealed a 2000 year old Roman Amphitheatre the largest stone-built arena of its kind in Britain. Striking with their black and white Tudor style appearance, the 13th century ‘Rows’ are two tiers of enticing shops waiting to be explored. Chester Cathedral is a 13th century Norman Cathedral and was the site of Handel’s first public performance of ‘The Messiah’ in 1742.
Picturesque Port Sunlight houses a museum showing the history of this workers’ village and is the perfect place to stop for afternoon tea. Following lunch, visit the stunning collections and exhibitions at the Lady Lever Art Gallery. Regarded as one of the finest art galleries in Europe, it features the best collection of Wedgwood Jasperware anywhere in the world.
