A Walking Tour of the Notable Trees of the CSU Campus Dates: 6/1 | Instructor: Alison O'Connor Time: 9-11 a.m. | Location: Offsite Class size: 25 | Cost: $10 Join Alison O'Connor for a walking tour of the CSU campus to experience and learn more about the Notable Trees of CSU. This tour will be approximately 1.5 miles long and mostly on paved surfaces. Participants are encouraged to bring water and wear sturdy shoes. Please, no pets.

Alison O'Connor is the Colorado State University Extension horticulture specialist in Larimer County. She's been with Extension for 20 years. Alison coordinates the Larimer County Master Gardener program and assists homeowners and industry with horticultural questions. She attended Iowa State University and The Ohio State University, majoring in horticulture, and completed her Ph.D. at Colorado State University in 2014. In her spare time she enjoys golfing, baking, and tending to her backyard chickens.

Sprechen Sie Deutsch? German POWs and Colorado’s Hidden History Dates: 6/1-6/15 | Instructor: Brian Carroll Time: 10 a.m.-Noon | Location: Drake Hall Class size: 50 | Cost: $30 Sprechen sie Deutsch? Is there an enemy in our midst? Maybe there was. Would you believe at Red Feather Lakes? The government, in wartime, needed lumber cut, roads prepared, and other sundry assignments, but how to get them all done with most males off fighting the Germans and Japanese in WWII? Would you believe the solution was German Prisoners of War? But where to put them? How about the cabins recently vacated by members of the Civilian Conservation Corps, a program established under the Roosevelt Administration to provide able-bodied males with productive work following the Great Depression? This course will examine how able-bodied American boys came to the mountains to earn a buck. WW11 meant their work was put aside, but not for long. The jobs were now assigned to German boys who came to the mountains via a different route - but their tasks were the same.

Brian Carroll, a Keeper of History, uncovers many stories of our local past that could have been lost. After retiring from a 27year career with the FBI, he moved to Fort Collins and immersed himself in local history. He continued to consult with the FBI and State Department, teaching foreign police officials the nuances of managing terrorist investigations, and uses his research knowledge in all his courses.

Colorado Coal Towns and their People Dates: 6/1-6/15 | Instructor: Kenneth Jessen Time: 1-3 p.m. | Location: Drake Hall Class size: 50 | Cost: $30 This course explores a pivotal era in Colorado’s history marked by rapid industrialization and a soaring demand for coal. Coal fueled domestic heating, powered steam locomotives, supported ore processing mills, and most significantly, supplied the massive steel mill in Pueblo. At its peak, the coal industry became Colorado’s largest employer. To support operations in remote areas, companies built entire villages for miners and their families—over 70 such communities emerged more than a century ago. As coal demand declined and deposits were depleted, mines closed, and once-thriving towns were abandoned, leaving behind rows of empty foundations.

Who were the people who lived in these towns, many of them immigrants? What were their living conditions like? This course invites students to examine the lives, communities, and legacies of Colorado’s coal mining era.

Kenneth Jessen started teaching OSHER classes in 2014 and has, over the years, authored 23 books and more than 2,300 articles for local newspapers and magazines. His lectures are in demand, including at the Fort Collins Senior Center, Chilson Center, Berthoud Community Center, and assisted living facilities. Jessen also heads up tours and worked for many years as an advisor for Channel 4 CBS. Kenneth Jessen holds a BSEE and an MBA, as well as postgraduate work in telecommunications technology.

50 Ways to Discover Colorado Dates: 6/1-6/17* | Instructor: Kevin Cook Time: 1-3 p.m. | Location: Drake Hall Class size: 50 | Cost: $60 *This course meets twice a week for three weeks.

In 1982, Paul Simon released his song, "Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover." What if we modified the theme to a more upbeat, locally applicable perspective, such as fifty diverse ways to explore, discover, and engage with the full character of Colorado? That theme could easily elaborate to include fifty mountains and fifty valleys, fifty rivers and fifty lakes, fifty trees and fifty wildflowers, fifty birds, and so much more! Or it might focus selectively on a blending of just fifty such things. Suddenly, "hop on the bus, Gus," promises a whole new motivation to visit the state we call home!

Kevin Cook began watching birds as a child sick with measles first then polio later. He pursued that interest with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in wildlife biology. He began writing a question-and-answer column and feature stories for Bird Watcher’s Digest in 1991 and continued through 2014. For 35 years, he guided birding tours on his own, with tour companies, and with Road Scholars. He taught wildlife seminars for the Rocky Mountain Conservancy at Rocky Mountain National Park for 26 years and has taught bird identification classes on his own since the 1980s.

Writing a poem is discovering.” —Robert Frost. In this course, we’ll discuss the importance of observation in our poetic lives.

We’ll practice writing spontaneously. We’ll read poems that notice the ordinary and celebrate the strange and unexpected.

Both in and outside of class, we’ll consider Mary Oliver’s advice for a living life: Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it. New writers welcome.

Chloé Leisure is a poet and a community creative writing teacher. Born and raised in Marquette, Michigan, she lives in Fort Collins, Colorado, with her family. She has been teaching writing and poetry for over 20 years in college classrooms, elementary schools, and libraries. She’s taught poetry on a riverbank, to fourth-graders in a freak blizzard on the Western Slope, and to graduate students in the grass. She has been teaching at OLLI for 10 years. She earned her MA in Creative Writing at Northern Arizona University and her MFA in Poetry at Colorado State University. Leisure was the 2014 Fort Collins Poet Laureate and is the author of the chapbook, The End of the World Again (Finishing Line Press). Her poetry has appeared in publications including The Blue Mountain Review, Colorado Review, Matter, The Night Heron Barks, [PANK], Second Coming, and Ross Gay & Shayla Lawson’s The Tenderness Project.

Shinrin-Yoku- What is Forest Bathing?

Dates: 6/2 | Instructor: Alyssa Golinvaux Time: 8:30-11:30 a.m. | Location: Environmental Learning Center Class size: 20 | Cost: $25 In this class, we will learn about shin-rin yoku, the Japanese ritual of "forest bathing" or spending time in nature intentionally.

During our walk through a natural area, we will learn about the rituals and science behind this practice and be given space to practice. Experience a renewed sense of awe by slowing down and cultivating mindfulness during your walk. The health benefits of shin-rin yoku go beyond the sense of well-being that you will feel after your time in nature - come experience it for yourself!

Alyssa Golinvaux has dedicated her life to helping others. Her highest hope is for others to live their ideal life. In her roles as a massage therapist, registered nurse, yoga teacher, and KonMari® consultant, she has helped guide others toward their physical, mental, and sometimes spiritual goals. A Wyoming native, she loves Colorado for its incredible diversity and beauty, both in its people and nature. She currently works as a registered nurse and also works with clients through her certified KonMari® consultant business. She has earned an Associate of Applied Science in Massage Therapy, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher Certificate, her KonMari® certification, and soon, a Forest Therapy Guide certification.

ESSENTRICS® participants will enjoy a workout designed to increase strength, range of motion, and flexibility, relieve pain, boost energy, and stimulate the brain. Based on the dynamic stretch-and-strengthening program created by Miranda Esmonde-White, author of the New York Times bestseller, Aging Backwards, each class begins with a 10-minute discussion on how ESSENTRICS® techniques improve our well-being and the details of specific movements, followed by a 45-minute workout to music curated to enhance the benefits of movement. This class is for members who are moderately active and have their physician's approval to exercise.

Terry Nolan has been teaching ESSENTRICS® since 2013.

Impressed by its intelligence and effectiveness, she completed the program's highest-level certification and then joined a team revising its training manuals. She currently participates in an advanced training program focused on the therapeutic benefits of music, exercise, and ways to optimize them during class. Her teaching style is mindful and fun as she leads participants through a full rebalancing of their muscles and joints. She knows that OLLI members who do so much to keep their minds active will love this fitness program that so brilliantly does the same for their bodies.

Tariff Turbulence Dates: 6/2 | Instructor: John Olienyk Time: 10 a.m.-Noon | Location: Drake Hall Class size: 50 | Cost: $10 On April 2, 2025, President Trump followed up on his campaign pledges by imposing broad-based tariffs on imported goods.

The stated purpose of these “Liberation Day” tariffs was to reduce the US trade deficit and revive the US manufacturing sector while also raising revenue for the US Treasury. This action caused much consternation around the world and has forced both domestic and foreign firms to make significant adjustments. When the Supreme Court recently ruled a substantial portion of those tariffs to be unconstitutional, the president immediately imposed new tariffs under different authority, causing an additional ripple of disruption and uncertainty here in the US and in the rest of the world. Our discussion will be focused on the degree to which the tariffs have achieved their stated goals in the US, and on the shortterm and long-term economic impacts, both domestically and globally.

John Olienyk earned his Ph.D. in economics at Colorado State University and served for 37 years as a faculty member in the Department of Finance and Real Estate there, focusing on financial markets and international finance. He has served as a consultant for multinational corporations and as an expert witness in cases involving financial matters. John taught finance and economics in MBA programs in France, China and Russia and served as a trainer and mentor for young business and economics professors in universities primarily in Ukraine, but also in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Russia over a period of twelve years.

The Colorado River: History, Law Management, and Challenges Dates: 6/2 | Instructor: Jennifer Gimbel Time: 10 a.m.-Noon | Location: Drake Hall Class size: 50 | Cost: $10 The Colorado River is shared by the United States, Mexico, and seven states, including Colorado. It provides water to over 40 million people and nearly 6 million acres of irrigated agriculture, as well as environmental and recreational opportunities. It is an economic engine for northern Colorado and the state. This course will examine the history of use, law, management, and associated challenges. Aridification has depleted flows, and consistent overuse has exacerbated the river's long-term sustainability. How are we meeting those challenges?

Jennifer Gimbel is the senior water policy scholar for the Colorado Water Center, based at CSU. In this position, she teaches graduate and undergraduate students interested in water policy issues and develops published articles on the Colorado River and water issues facing Colorado. She served as the principal deputy assistant secretary for water and science in the Department of the Interior. She was deputy commissioner for external and intergovernmental affairs for the Bureau of Reclamation. From 2008 to 2013, Gimbel was the director of the Colorado Water Conservation Board, a group within the Department of Natural Resources that works to protect and develop the state’s water resources. Creative Writing: Techniques and Practice Dates: 6/2-6/16 | Instructor: Abigayil Wernsman Time: 10 a.m.-Noon | Location: Drake Hall Class size: 20 | Cost: $30 This course provides a supportive environment for writers who want to strengthen foundational skills and generate new work without the pressure of formal large-group critique. In-class activities, structured exercises, and discussion help writers focus on craft elements such as voice, imagery, character, scene, and dialogue. Brief lectures introduce techniques that can be applied immediately, encouraging writers to experiment, take risks, and build skills through practice. With a “process over product” approach, the class emphasizes lowstakes drafting, play, and repetition to develop fluency and confidence across genres. By focusing on craft-in-action, the class helps writers generate material and approach creative work with curiosity and confidence.

Abigayil Wernsman received her PhD in literary arts from the University of Denver, focusing on early medieval literature, including Old English, early medieval Latin, and early English pedagogy. She earned her MA in Victorian literature from the University of Northern Colorado, with a focus on the Brontë sisters, and completed her BA at CSU. She has taught British literature, poetry, and writing, and Old English language courses. She is currently writing a book project on Beowulf and academic translation, along with several side projects.

Great Directors: Sidney Lumet Dates: 6/2-6/23 | Instructor: Sarah Kozloff Time: 10 a.m.-Noon | Location: CSU Spur Campus - DENVER Class size: 30 | Cost: $40 Sidney Lumet directed forty-four feature films, starting with 12 Angry Men in 1957. His non-flashy style belies his great control of the medium, just as his plots' straight-forward progression mask his deep moral seriousness. His recurrent themes are corruption — corrupt cops, corrupt lawyers, corruption in the Catholic Church, corrupt media, etc. —and the often-failed efforts of the would-be righteous protagonist to shake himself free of complicity. Most of his best films are based on real life.

This course will concentrate on four Lumet films: Serpico (1973), Dog Day Afternoon (1975), Prince of the City (1981), and The Verdict (1982). Students will watch the films on their own before class. Class will be devoted to discussion and analysis of clips.

Sarah Kozloff received her Ph.D. from Stanford University and her B.A. from Dartmouth College. For over thirty years, she taught film history at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, where she was awarded an endowed chair. She specialized in American film, especially classic Hollywood. Her publications include five academic books and numerous chapters and articles. Her publications—scholarly and imaginative—are listed at sarahkozloff.com. Although she lived on the East Coast for 45 years, upon retirement, she moved home to Colorado. Finding that she missed teaching, she has previously taught five classes to lifetime learners, glorying in adults’ rich viewing histories.

The Twelve "Minor" Prophets: Jonah through Malachi Dates: 6/2-6/16 | Instructor: Hillel Katzir Time: 1-3 p.m. | Location: Drake Hall Class size: 50 | Cost: $30 Beyond the biggest of the prophetic books - Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel - the Hebrew Bible includes shorter books of twelve Prophets who have also played a role in the development and teachings of Judaism and Christianity. The class will take a brief look at each of these Prophets: what we know about them as people, and what their roles were in prophetic history.

Rabbi Hillel Katzir has been teaching at OLLI-CSU for over ten years, offering courses on Judaism, the Bible, World Religions, and Religions in America. His passions are introducing participants to aspects of these topics with which they may not be familiar and increasing understanding across perceived lines of difference.

Are you looking for a Spanish class spent conjugating verbs and memorizing vocabulary? If you are, this is NOT the course for you. If, however, you have ZERO experience with Spanish and want to have fun learning a new language from square one, come and join us. You'll get your language toes wet with beginning conversational Spanish. This is not a "sit and get" class, but a very hands-on, interactive course designed to get you communicating en Español.

Master the Art of Packing: Your Ultimate Carry-On Guide Dates: 6/3 | Instructor: Alyssa Golinvaux Time: 10 a.m.-Noon | Location: Drake Hall Class size: 20 | Cost: $10 Have you ever wanted to travel lighter or been envious of those people who never have to worry about a lost checked bag?

This 2-hour workshop style class will teach you the basics of packing… basic. We’ll discuss “capsule” outfits, toiletry solutions, and the use of packing cubes and special folding techniques to maximize your space. If you took the “Spark Joy/KonMari®” OLLI talk in the last session and wanted more practical, handson application, we will be using that method for folding carryon clothing. Once you have a tried-and-true system for packing, it becomes less daunting and easier to prepare for a trip- let one piece of pre-travel stress go! This system can also translate to create a super tidy checked bag.

Follow Your Bliss! The Wisdom of Joseph Campbell Dates: 6/3-6/17 | Instructor: Kate Lyn Reiter Time: 10 a.m.-Noon | Location: Drake Hall Class size: 50 | Cost: $30 Discover (or revisit) the impact of mythologies in our lives with Joseph Campbell. We will start with his book, Hero with a Thousand Faces, and clips from his PBS interviews with Bill Moyers. (Those of us who saw Campbell’s interviews all remember them as life-altering.) We’ll also explore the books Pathways of Bliss and Thou Art That, published posthumously by his Foundation, which collect much of his teaching, essays, and lectures. Three sections will be: The Language of Myth; Journey of the Hero’s Adventure; and Follow Your Bliss. Looking at myth & religious myth for the four functions: Connect us with Awe & Mystery; Cosmological models; Societal functions of myth; and Psychological functions of myth. Come experience Campbell for the first time, or reconnect with his message to “follow your bliss.” This course will explore common themes and connections that weave through various mythologies and find how these stories still resonate within the human heart.

Through it all, you will discover the hero within yourself.

Kate Lyn Reiter is an MFA graduate of the YALE School of Drama. She has written and performed award-winning character comedy and stand-up comedy in the New York City area for several years and has been a comedy speaker at various health & wellness events. An Award-Winning Public Speaker, she brings a light-hearted touch to every class. She has taught English Composition & Literature and Theatre at Centenary College and Warren County Community College in New Jersey. She continues to deliver engaging keynotes to local groups on “Bringing Humor to Life” and teaches Comedy Workshops focused on “turning adversity into an asset.” In her spare time, you can catch her acting at Bas Bleu Theatre in Fort Collins or doing Agility Sports with her Golden Retriever, Poppins. Women and Cartography Through Time and Across Space Dates: 6/3-6/17 | Instructor: Melinda Laituri Time: 1-3 p.m. | Location: Drake Hall Class size: 40 | Cost: $30 This course explores women’s roles in making maps. Often overlooked, women have made significant contributions to mapmaking, to the tools used to create maps, and to the types of information and data that populate the interactive maps of the 21st century, addressing today’s critical issues. The course is divided into three lectures that examine: how women have been depicted as objects on maps (e.g., Gaia, Mother Earth); how women have contributed to cartographic technologies; and how women are setting new directions for mapping and mapmaking. The course is grounded in today’s rapidly changing political context and considers how women can help set the agenda for the future of cartography.

Melina Laituri is a professor emerita of geography in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Sustainability at Colorado State University (CSU). She is an honorary fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). She was the Founding Director of the Geospatial Centroid at CSU (2009), which provides support for geospatial research and teaching across the university. Dr. Laituri has conducted research and technical training in GIS and participatory mapping around the world, working with indigenous communities and focusing on water resources and disaster management.

Tennis Nets & Rule-Breakers: The Golden Shovel Dates: 6/3-6/17 | Instructor: Chloé Leisure Time: 1-3 p.m. | Location: Drake Hall Class size: 20 | Cost: $35 “Because where do poems come from if not other poems?

Where do forms come from if not other forms?” —Terrance Hayes, foreword to Golden Shovel. “I'd sooner write free verse as play tennis with the net down.” —Robert Frost. Writing in form can shake up our writing tendencies and habits. Following a form can allow for surprising syntax, unexpected word choice, and new conversations with other poems and poets. In this class, we will learn about the Golden Shovel form, invented and popularized by Terrance Hayes in honor of Gwendolyn Brooks’s poem, “We Real Cool.” We will read, write, and share poems that follow and are inspired by the Golden Shovel form. New writers are welcome.

She’s taught poetry on a riverbank, fourth-graders in a freak blizzard on the Western Slope, and graduate students in the grass. She has been teaching at OLLI for 10 years. She earned her MA in Creative Writing at Northern Arizona University and her MFA in Poetry at Colorado State University. Leisure was the 2014 Fort Collins Poet Laureate and is the author of the chapbook, The End of the World Again (Finishing Line Press). Her poetry has appeared in publications including The Blue Mountain Review, Colorado Review, Matter, The Night Heron Barks, [PANK], Second Coming, and Ross Gay & Shayla Lawson’s The Tenderness Project.

This class will engage your senses. Drawing outside improves your observation as you learn to quickly identify and capture important elements of the landscape. Sally Purath earned a B.A. in Social Sciences and an M.Ed. at Colorado State University. She taught history, English, religion, and humanities to 12th graders for 26 years, specializing in the humanities of Europe, the USA, India, China, Japan, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. She also taught World, U.S., and Russian history and philosophy in the International Baccalaureate program. Patty Pyrz has been an artist since childhood and has more than 25 years of teaching experience working with students ages 6 to 80. She is a relative newcomer to Fort Collins and previously taught for OLLI through the University of Illinois. While there, she also taught art workshops/classes for the Springer Cultural Center, Parkland Community College, Clark Lindsey Retirement Community, and UIUC’s Campus Wellbeing Services. She is a current member of the CAEA (Colorado Art Education Association) and CBCA (Colorado Business Committee for the Arts). Ms. Pyrz holds a bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts and a master's degree in Exercise Physiology/Wellness from the University of Central Florida.

In this course, participants will learn about all parts of Medicare and the differences between plans and parts. Members will learn what a Medicare Advantage plan is, how it works, and how it differs from a Medicare supplement (aka Medigap). We will discuss enrollment periods and deadlines for people new to Medicare and for those who want to review their existing coverage. This class will examine how Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage compare. The first and most well-known cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, was released as open-source software in 2008 and in recent years the cryptocurrency market has grown exponentially around the globe. The emergence of this market has drawn the attention of investors, financial institutions, policymakers and opportunists. This course will examine the nature and utility of these instruments and assess the risks and potential rewards that come with these revolutionary new assets.

John Olienyk earned his Ph.D. in economics at Colorado State University and served for 37 years as a faculty member in the Department of Finance and Real Estate there, focusing on financial markets and international finance. He has served as a consultant for multinational corporations and as an expert witness in cases involving financial matters. John taught finance and economics in MBA programs in France, China and Russia and served as a trainer and mentor for young business and economics professors in universities primarily in Ukraine, but also in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Russia over a period of twelve years.

All About Clouds Date: 6/9-6/16 | Instructor: Thomas Schlatter Time: 10 a.m.-Noon | Location: Drake Hall Class size: 50 | Cost: $20 Lectures will be held on two mornings, one week apart. They aim to satisfy anyone's curiosity about clouds. The only prerequisites are an interest in clouds and a high school science background or equivalent. The illustrations will be photos, videos, charts, and graphs. No math. The lectures will cover four main subtopics: cloud naming and identification, cloud formation, cloud structure and dynamics, and the role of clouds in Colorado's weather and climate. I'll present two subtopics each morning, with a short break in between. I'll also send out supplemental materials in advance of each meeting.

Tom Schlatter received his Ph.D degree in meteorology from St. Louis University. He spent most of his career with NOAA, working to incorporate weather observations from many sources (surface stations, ships, ocean buoys, upper air balloons, aircraft, radars, and satellites) into computer prediction models. He wrote a question-and-answer column about weather and climate for Weatherwise magazine for 37 years and has been taking cloud photographs since his college days.

Using glass, beads, broken china plates, and more, participants will learn how to create a mosaic coaster or decorative item for display. Renee Walkup is an award-winning mosaic artist known for her innovative use of unpredictable materials. Her work is in commercial buildings and private collections around the county. She is currently the President of the Colorado Mosaic Artists group statewide.

Wildflowers and Natural History of RamseyShockey Open Space Date: 6/10 or 6/11 | Instructor: Rob Pickett Time: 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. | Location: Ramsey-Shockey Class size: 15 | Cost: $20 June is the prime time for wildflowers along this botanicallyrich 1.7-mile Shoshone Trail in the Ramsey-Shockey Open Space. This 177-acre tract was purchased in 1997 to protect important wildlife habitat, provide a buffer to Pinewood Reservoir, and expand recreational activities. In addition to identifying the diverse wildflowers along the trail, we'll focus on the activities of our natural community during this busy time of year. Note: A Larimer County park permit is required to park at Ramsay-Shockey Open Space. A day pass is available for $10.

Rob Pickett, after spending ten years writing Environmental Impact Statements for the EPA, spent twenty years as Supervisor of the gardeners and greenhouses at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. He has spent his adult life leading natural history hikes for various organizations in the Washington, DC area, including both the VA and MD Native Plant Societies, Audubon Naturalist Society, and Shenandoah National Park. Having moved to Fort Collins in 2019, he currently leads hikes for the cities of Fort Collins and Loveland, Larimer County, and the Northern Chapter of the Colorado Native Plant Society.

The Dragonfly Girls Date: 6/10 | Instructor: Ann Lowry Time: 10 a.m.-Noon | Location: Drake Hall Class size: 50 | Cost: $10 The Dragonfly Girls. In the midst of World War II, daring women traded convention for the cockpit to support military air efforts.

Between 1942 and 1944, over 25,000 women applied for the WASP (Women’s Air Force Service Pilots) program. Only 1,102 of these women succeeded in becoming WASPS. Some ferried airplanes from factories to bases. Some became tow pilots for gunnery practice. Others were sent for more training to learn to fly B-17s and B-24s. Thirty-eight of them died in service to their country, yet they were not given veteran status until 1977.

Come to this class and learn about the amazing women who broke both glass ceilings and military barriers while proving they were just as competent in the air as men.

Ann Lowry, Ph.D., is the author of the award-winning novel The Blue Trunk. Her debut novel was inspired by the discovery of a family heirloom—a travel trunk from Norway. Ann’s writing dives deep into the complexities of relationships, conflict, and the human condition. Reviewers have noted that she provides sharp social commentary in her writing. She has made significant contributions to academic journals, authored insightful opinion pieces, and crafted content for various platforms, including Writer’s Digest, Women’s Writers/Women’s Fiction, and Girl Talk HQ. The Climate Center is dedicated to developing tools and methods to communicate Colorado's climatology and climate variability more effectively to scientists, educators, stakeholders, media, and the public. Since 1997, we’ve served children and adults with disabilities, youth-at-risk, individuals with dementia, and Veterans—populations often facing social isolation and barriers to traditional therapies. As a nationally accredited 501(c)(3), we rely on charitable support to provide evidence‑informed equine‑assisted services that build independence, confidence, mobility, emotional regulation, and social connection. Programs include adaptive riding, equine‑assisted social‑emotional learning, and specialized offerings such as Hearts & Horses for Heroes and Riding in the Moment. Each year, more than 600 participants work with our 33 equine partners on our 23‑acre ranch, supported by one of Larimer County’s largest volunteer programs. In collaboration with families, schools, healthcare providers, and community partners, we ensure services remain accessible and responsive. Our impact is seen in participants gaining strength, students improving behavior, Veterans rebuilding purpose, and families finding hope—each person feeling valued, capable, and part of a caring community.

CSU Sustainability in Plain Sight Tour Date: 6/18 | Instructor: Stacey Baumgarn Time: 9-10:30 a.m. | Location: CSU Campus Class size: 25 | Cost: $10 Join Stacey, the CSU Campus Energy Coordinator, on a green walking tour of Main Campus. Plan to walk, talk, and explore a few of the things that enable and support sustainability action and practices here at CSU. Sustainability at CSU is a team sport. You’ll explore and discuss the things you may or may not see that help CSU achieve its sustainability goals, and the role students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends play. Every one of us makes a difference! Note: this will be a fully outdoor walking tour with limited opportunities to sit. Comfortable walking shoes, light weight clothing, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and water are recommended.

John Blair earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado State University and the Certified Financial Services Counselor designation from the ABA National Graduate Trust School, Northwestern University. A native Coloradoan, he managed trust departments for several Front Range banks in Denver, Colorado Springs, and northern Colorado. His work, over the past 40 years, provided multiple opportunities to discuss estate planning with people in need of information and sound, common-sense advice.
