New year, a new you
A resolution of renewal
By Don Short
of these may be losing weight, quitting a smoking habit, saving money or drinking less. “Resolution” means taking an action to solve a problem. The problems in our lives are not always because of the presence of something that we would want to remove but rather more often, I believe, the absence of something we should have in our lives. I want this year for myself to be a year of renewals. I want to remember what it was like when I first accepted Christ into my heart as a senior in high school and work at renewing my faith and growing more in my walk with Christ. I want my year to be a year of renewed strength. Isaiah 40:31 ASV says“they that
wait for Jehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.”
I want a clean heart and a right spirit renewed within me Psalm 51:10. Ephesians 4:23-24 ASV says to “be renewed in the spirit
of your mind, and put on the new man, that after God hath been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.” We are to put on the new man so that we can do the right things that are pleasing to God. 2 Corinthians 5:17 ASV cspotlight.com
HEART OF MAN
his is the time of year when many of us attempt to resolve problematic behaviors in our life by setting resolutions. Some
if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new.” We must remember that
we are a new creature or a new creation in Christ. The challenge for us this coming year is to be these new men and women, this new creation that Christ wants us to be. We cannot let the old things in our life hold us back and keep us bound. Let’s not allow unforgiveness, anger, fear and resentment to bind us to our past. To resolve means to decide firmly on a course of action. For the year of 2016, let us together resolve to do the following: 1)to renew our faith and grow in our walk with Christ; 2)to renew our love and commitment to our spouses and our families; and 3)to renew our hearts with the spirit of love and compassion to reach a lost and hurting world. The world we live in needs renewed life, renewed joy and renewed peace now more than ever. Let’s be all we can for Christ this coming year! Don Short and his wife reside in Acadiana.
