Colegio San José Juventud Marinista 2018-2019
September 12, 2019 Feast of the Holy Name of Mary
Dear Colegio San José Family, This year the Society of Mary celebrates 200 years of commitment to education. It all began in Bordeaux, France with 15 students. Today, formal Marianist education reaches 5 continents and 24 countries in the world serving more than 112,000 students. In Puerto Rico we have been present in different educational projects for almost 90 years since the first Marianist arrived in Ponce. We, at Colegio San José, have been graced with the Marianist charism for over 80 of those years. As we celebrate such a significant milestone, we continue being thankful for the many blessings that we have received during those years and in particular during the past academic year, 2018-2019. God has granted us another excellent and vibrant academic year full of successes and achievements in all areas of our school for which we are grateful. The past two years have been full of challenges, as you well know, but one of the characteristics of Marianist Education is to educate for adaptation and change. Change is constant in our daily lives and it is something that we have no control over, we have to deal with it and make decisions that will help us adapt to the new situations. As you see in our summary of major purchases and repairs done during the past year, we continue developing our technological infrastructure, and purchasing lockers and school vehicles for our students. Many of these purchases and others are related to our
addition of the 6th grade two years ago. We have adapted to having a complete Middle School with about 50 extra students. We are now members of two sports leagues, with more sports teams and extracurricular activities. We have hired 5 additional teachers to continue differentiating the Middle School and High School. We extend our adaptation. In 2020 we will celebrate 100 years of Catholic Education in our building. As many of you know, the first school started in our premises was Academia San Agustin which then became St. Augustin Military Academy from 1926 until 1938 when the Society of Mary took over the school and changed the name to Colegio San José. Many changes have occurred during these years. We have always been sharing our heritage and forging the future. During these years, we have always educated students from all socioeconomic levels. Some have benefitted from our Student Aid Program that today helps financially about 70 of our 535 students. This program continues to be funded through the many activities that are organized by our PTSA and Alumni Office and from direct financial donations from the Marianist, Corporate sponsors, parents, alumni and friends of the Colegio. To all of whom I say again, Gracias!! In the name of the Marianist Community and our School Board, we thank you for your support and pray that you and your families be abundantly blessed. Bro. Francisco T. González, S.M., M.D. President
