The White Wall


White Wall ... ? This is a project investigating the color on one wall. As looking closely the lighing takes a big part in changing the colour of the wall, from external refelction such as cars and builing as well as the lightin inside the room . Each color can tells the atmosphere inside the space and stating the different time of period. -

How can my programme as a library could provide an open community space for all?

The site is shared by the public and in the heart of Pontypridd. The site is surrounding by a very complex of movement of the people and on top of that the site sits on the main access route for people where they come from work or to work and come to Pontypridd to shop and away the town, where a main bus station is located along the site with more than ten bus routes servicing across not only Pontypridd but to different valley of towns. With Pontypridd Market just one minutes walk away and it only takes one minute walk to the main street of Pontypridd where all the big brand shops are such as Boots and Iceland supermarket as well as banks. On the other hand, the town center shave some domestic small cafe. On the other hand, The clients mentioned to create a different image of what (Victorian municipality) image of what a library is. This lends to an question HOW DO WE READ ? Questioning what if the space in within the library is like an outdoor park, people can experience sitting under trees or on grass and read! Most of the elderly people in the Pontypridd shop and catch up with their friends and family in the town center.Having asking many people who live in Pontypridd, they all think there is a need for my programme to create a focusing point of the town where people can meet and wait or even sitting down outdoor and enjoy their coffee while waiting for their bus. So there is a question how can my programme as a library could provide an open community space for all? AIM -Maximisation views into the trees in the courtyard and back of the buildings. -Create an atmosphere of a park surrounding by urban context . -Flexible spaces allow diffeent activites and further development. -Improve the backing of the existing building arround the site. -A place to stop by eg drink tea, reading newspaper before getting onto the bus.

Pontypridd Library

A bamboo wooden deck covering most of the area in the first floor deck. The main library area in on the ground floor and the main door is located at the north of the building

Old people home is located in the north end of the first floor having full access to the first floor roof top. Giving a safe outdoor area.

Thermal panels are provided on the roof top of the plant room. All serives such as water supply are installed in this room.

A Central courtyard within the library, where this will be the main space letting ligth into the library as well as giving a chnace to read outdoor.

Stairs and lift are provided in the central area. PV panels are also install at the roof top, to max. the energy the PV panels are facing south where it can gain the most direct sunlight.

Some group reading room are place at the first floor.

Ground area give an opportunity for sports and spcae for the pubilc. as this is a route for Taff Trail. it is important to provide wider street for bikes.

A shading roof to provide area agains the rain as well as blocking the western sun into the library. A 1.5m glazed barrier is provided.

The circle courtyard park represents a cycle and a never ended journey. And there is no dead end within this park

A fter I hav e change the direction of the spot lights towards the wall , as well as the m aterials of the wall with increase the reflection on the m aterials white concrete. T he whole space has lighting up ev en, the darkest area in the room . M ore reflection on the v ertical surfaces increase the light lux lev el . H owev er, these two results giv e m e a v ery different atm osphere within the room . A nd m ore im portantly it will depend what activ ates take place within the room such as an gallery room or class room or ev en dace room . T hey all need

The Art Box (Group project) The doors changing the fiction and the spaces within the building allowing more opportunity for different activites. In China people go to the park for playing chess, bring children to play in the park., martial arts. Basicly the park is a community center for all. The Art Box is a joint workshop between Welsh School of Architecture and Tianjin University School of Architecture. in May 2011. The site is located in the heart of Tianjin, and the brief is to create a small space for the community. Our idea is to create different size of door in the center of the building allowing. Doors can be rotated in different direction allowing different activites take place in the architecture. Therefore there is no fix size of spaces, spaces changes depending on the use .

A s for speech the recom m ended am ount of rev erberation tim e is between 1000-1400m s between range 500 H z to 1000H z - the frequency range of speed. A t the m om ent it is beyond the lim ited at 1000-2450m s. In order to reduce it I need to change the m aterials of the walls to the one with m ore absorption and at a lower frequency and less absorption at higher frequency, this m eans that I need to m ake the wall m ore absorption at low frequency, on the other hand less absorption at higher frequency.
