a. Coverage rate and comparative advantage Taxa de cobertura e vantagem comparativa O calçado dá um contributo fulcral para as contas externas nacionais. A exemplo de anos anteriores, em 2012, foi a indústria com o saldo comercial mais elevado na economia portuguesa (Gráfico 10) e um dos sete tipos de produto em que Portugal apresenta saldos positivos relevantes. Destes sete, é no calçado que se regista a segunda melhor taxa de cobertura das importações pelas exportações, rondando os 290%, valor em crescendo nos últimos anos.

Footwear provides a key contribution to the national external accounts. As in previous years, in 2012, it was the industry with the highest trade surplus in the Portuguese economy (Figure 10) and one of the seven types of products that present relevant positive balances. From these seven, the footwear industry is the one that registers the second highest coverage rate, nearly 290%, a figure that has been growing in recent years.
