Premier League Preview Round 3 Friday night sees a full round of Premier League hockey fixtured across the Adelaide metro area, and a full weekend of State Senior Championships hockey showcasing the best of both metro and country hockey at various venues around the state. This week's Premier League men contains a number of what should be closely contested matches. Free-scoring and undefeated to date Port Adelaide plays its first match on the new Adelaide University pitch at 6.30pm, against a rebuilding but youthful and athletic Burnside. No matter the positions on the table the Magpies v Bulldogs match is a traditional grudge fixture and this will be no different, Port having several key outs this week with State representative commitments in a test of their depth. In what promises to be a great night of hockey at this venue, at 8pm a much-improved Forestville (2 wins from 2 starts after missing out on the top four last year), under new player-coach Jamie Bahnisch, take on powerhouse of recent seasons Seacliff, who are still coming to grips with several personnel changes but are always dangerous with their fast brand of attacking hockey. Match of the round is undoubtedly Adelaide v last year's premiers North East (6.30pm at the State Hockey Stadium), Adelaide bolstered this year by the return of midfield dominator Jake Stacy for the entire season, whilst North East always play a disciplined team style. Both Adelaide Uni and Woodville will be looking to post their first win of the season in the 8pm fixture at this venue, with Woodville in particular having done some soul-searching over the Easter break and hoping to boucne back from last round's 12-0 drubbing by the rampant Magpies. In the women's round, last year's runners up Port Adelaide will be tested by a top of the table and undefeated Burnside (7pm at North East), Port will be looking to take advantage of scoring chances created following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Woodville last round, and will miss the potency of young strikers Leah Welstead and Courtney Rudd on state duty this week. Port Adelaide's ground hosts competition strugglers (to date) Seacliff and Forestville at 6.30pm, with Seacliff favoured to win in what could be a tight contest, while the consistent and experienced Uni girls play improved Woodville 8pm at the same venue. In national under 18 championships underway currently, the SA girls are flying, having won all 3 matches to date, althought the traditional hockey powers to come will surely test their mettle, whilst the boys have only one point from their 3 matches to date with the tough fixtures yet to come.

Magpie Update: April 13th 2012 State Championships- call for volunteers As you may know Port Adelaide Hockey Club is hosting the Women’s games for the Senior State Championships this coming weekend. We also have a couple of PL match days which fall outside of the normal team roster for the canteen. Consequently we are looking for a few volunteers who can help our rostered canteen managers provide the great food the Port Adelaide Club is renowned for. We have the following competitions scheduled and are looking for at least one extra person to be in the canteen with the manager for the following times. Friday 13th April 6.30 pm to 9pm (PL competition) Saturday 14th April 11.30 to 6.30 pm (Snr State Champs) Sunday 15th April 9.00 am to 3.00 pm (Snr State Champs) Wednesday 25th April 1.00 pm to 6.30 pm (PL Competition) If you are able to spare a couple of hours to help out on any of these days please email or phone Sue on 0417 884 007 with the times you are available. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Protective Head Gear PADHC is trialling use of protective head gear in 2012. Initial trials will be at the premier league level. The head gear is often used during penalty corners in international matches particularly due to the advent of drag flicking.

Magpie Update: April 13th 2012 Thursday Night Dinners 2012 We are currently seeking a suitably qualified individual to co-ordinate the cooking on Thursday nights. Re-numeration will be negotiated (fee deductions etc). If you are interested or know someone who may be please contact

URGENTLY WANTED – CANTEEN MANAGERS We are still looking for at least one but preferably two people who are interested in joining our current canteen managers. Very basically the role of the manager is the preparation & cooking of the hot food and generally supervise/provide assistance to the rostered team helpers. It is not difficult to make hamburgers etc. and is quite enjoyable with the company of the rostered players. Training is provided and there is some remuneration. Rosters are worked around your other commitments. It would be preferable to have people who don’t play hockey as it makes it easier to roster & find fill-ins at short notice should someone fall ill. At present we do not have enough people to run the canteen for the season and if this continues then it may be a case of NO MANAGER - NO HOT FOOD! If you know of anyone or if you are interested please give me a call and I can answer all the questions you may have. Remember – many hands make light work. If everyone said ‘someone else will do it, then no one would do it’. We would then not have a hockey club to play for let alone a canteen which provides great food! Sue Kitto- Mb: 0417 884 007
