Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me, I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. LENT AND CONFESSION: “Happy the man whose offense is forgiven, whose sin is remitted. O happy the man to whom the Lord imputes no guilt, in whose spirit is no guile. But now I have acknowledged my sins; my guilt I did not hide. I said, “I will confess my offense to the Lord.” And you, Lord, have forgiven the guilt of my sin. (PS32) DEAR JESUS PRAYER FOR FAVORS: Dear Heart of Jesus, In the past I have asked for many favors. This time I ask you this very special one (mention favor). Take it Dear Jesus and place it within your broken heart where your Father sees it. Then in your merciful eyes it will become your favor, not mine. Amen. Say prayer for 3 days, promise publication, and favor will be granted. Never known to fail. MARIANNE’S SEWING: Slipcovers, window treatments, cushions, pillows. Even though it’s a little early to get out in the vegetable garden, except for planting pea seeds, there are still important gardening tasks to tackle. Like other avid perennial gardeners, I’ve been poking around my beds to see who’s waking up. The first crocus is poking up and the daffodils and tulips won’t be far behind. These signs of activity are welcome indeed. Even though it’s cool, it’s time to apply our fertilizer so, as the plants emerge from hibernation, nutrients will be waiting in the soil for them. Early feeding sets the stage for healthy plants all season long. Lawns, trees, shrubs and perennials all benefit from early feeding but which plant food is best for what?

When you are out shopping for a lawn food, first consider the condition of your lawn. If your lawn is healthy and well established, you’re looking for a regular high nitrogen lawn food. I recommend using a lawn food that provides nitrogen in fast AND slow release forms. You will often see “bargain” lawn foods advertised. This lawn food will be cheap but may not be a bargain. Often the nitrogen in these cheap lawn foods releases so quickly that the grass plants cannot utilize it. It’s like getting a week’s worth of food served to for supper on Monday and then going hungry the rest of the week. It doesn’t make sense for you or your lawn. Look on the bag to see if the nitrogen is derived from more than one or two sources. Lawn foods that are formulated to be fast and slow release, they cost a bit more but you’ll be better off in the long run since you will feed less often.

Most people shopping for a lawn food are doing so because their lawn is thin or has suffered from grub (root) damage. In these situations a “regular” lawn food is not the thing you want to apply. A thin lawn needs roots to help fill bare areas. Root growth is stimulated by phosphorous, the middle number on any fertilizer package. A lawn food for a thin damaged lawn should have a higher middle number. Most lawn foods with high middle numbers are sold fall lawn foods. If your lawn is not as thick as you like, use a fall formula spring and fall for a couple of seasons to get the lawn in shape. Fall, or high phosphorous lawn foods, are also the logical choice for establishing a new lawn from seed or sod. Slow release properties are vital in these situations. Cheap, fast release high nitrogen lawn food should be avoided on new or thin lawns. All that nitrogen will stimulate blade growth and can stress out the damaged or immature root system making a bad situation even worse.

When I plant perennials I’m a fanatic about using bone meal. I know by looking at the three numbers on the bag that bone meal is almost all phosphorous. It is a wonderful source of long lasting phosphorous but it doesn’t provide any nitrogen or potassium. So, each year I side dress my perennials with additional food. The food I choose for them will be slow release and fairly balanced with slightly more phosphorous for more flowers. Espoma Flower-tone is my current favorite. There are other quality products available. I again want to avoid cheap, fast release fertilizer. To feed the perennials, I’ll roughen up the soil around each plant being sure to stay far enough away from the crown to avoid damaging the roots. I’ll sprinkle the fertilizer sparingly and according to the directions on the label around the plant being careful not to get any on the crown. Then I’ll lightly mix the food into the soil with my trusty cultivator and then water.

For trees and large shrubs, an easy way to apply nutrients is by pounding in some of those tree food spikes that are made of compressed fertilizer. When you go to the garden center, you’ll notice that there are different formulas for different plants. The spikes for evergreens and shade trees are higher in nitrogen and those for fruit tree are higher in phosphorus to enhance fruit production. You may have large, flowering shrubs like lilacs that you want to feed with spikes. The fruit tree spikes, with their higher phosphorus formula would make them appropriate for use on flowering shrubs as well. Be careful to follow the directions when using fertilizer spikes. They should be driven into the ground AWAY from the trunk or stem of the plant you’re feeding. The tiny roots that take up the nutrients are about the same distance from the trunk as the outermost branch tips. For trees, it’s easy to figure out where to place the spikes. Simply walk away from the trunk until you are standing under the outermost branch tips and pound in the spikes at that circumference. How many spikes you’ll need to use is determined by the diameter of the trunk. There are directions on the package. Follow them. More isn’t necessarily better. If you use too many spikes or place them too close to the trunk, you may do more harm than good.

For smaller shrubs and perennials, you’ll want to use a gentle, granular food. I like the Espoma products. You can pound holes around small shrubs (under the outermost branch tips) and pour the appropriate amount of plant food into them. When in doubt, less is best. On the perennials, I’ll dig a shallow trench well away from the crown of the plant and apply a modest amount of gentle Espoma Flower-tone plant food. Follow the recommendations on the package and, again, when in doubt, less is best. If you can get out there at the first opportunity and get your nutrients into the soil early, your landscape plants will be able to take advantage of them and have the best season possible. Thanks for the read

THE WEEKLY PENNYSAVER - WKLY

Page 9

Spring Car Care Pennysaver • Moneysaver • The Weekly Pre-Owned Can Be a Smart Financial Bet Many people look to the used-car lots when shopping for vehicles. The allure of a lower price is what drives some consumers to purchase a pre-owned car or truck. Considering many of the used vehicles available are only a few years old, this can be a smart decision.

We Have Your Choice ...

With the widespread availability of leases, many pre-owned vehicles are lease turn-ins that are only a few years old and in relatively good condition. And because leases limit the amount of mileage that can be put on the vehicle in a given year, chances are a lot of those pre-owned vehicles are also low in mileage.

Good, Better, Best Pricing on Most Repairs Regardless of Make or Model

Used-car pricing almost always will be lower than a vehicle off the lot. This is a big draw to many consumers looking to save money on a vehicle. New cars depreciate as soon as they are driven away from the dealership, so even a vehicle that is only a few months old will cost less than it did brand new.

Any GM Recall

Buying a pre-owned car at a dealership also may come with a warranty. In order to liquidate their stock of used vehicles, oftentimes dealerships will certify the vehicles are in good condition and offer warranties that cover many of the same items one would find with a new vehicle. Certified vehicles can be a safer investment, primarily because the service history and the condition of the car is verifiable. Buying from a private owner may be a riskier purchase.

Performed on ALL GM Cars and Trucks Regardless of Where Purchased FREE OF CHARGE

That doesn’t mean that buying a used car from a private owner should be avoided at all costs. Many private sellers are honest individuals and will offer proof documenting the vehicle’s maintenance history. There are also car history reports that can be obtained using the VIN number on the vehicle to check to see if it was in any major accidents or had other kinds of damage. Buying used is also a green investment. While a brand-new hybrid may certainly save on fuel use, the energy needed to produce that new hybrid can be considerable. Purchasing a used car means less demand for a new one to be made. Another advantage to used vehicles is that insurance premiums may be lower. That’s because new cars usually require comprehensive insurance coverage, when a used vehicle may only require the basics. People looking to save money on a vehicle should consider pre-owned cars as viable options for their next vehicle.

GUIDARELLI’S DISCOUNT

Weekly Closer Look At ... WINE & LIQUOR Guidarelli’s Wine & Liquor was started in 1944 by Joe Guidarelli, and was passed on to his son Mike from whom Ron Slater bought the business. Guidarelli’s Wine & Liquor offers a huge selection at a discounted price. They try harder to keep their prices lower than other liquor stores. They have great service, case discounts and many in-stock specials. Their business philosophy is to never be undersold. Ron and his wife Cristal have two children; Hannah and Joshua. He graduated from Guilderland High in 1983, and SUNY Albany with a BA in Socialogy and Criminal Justice. He manages his son’s baseball team, enjoys bringing his children to Tae Kwon Do and is a die-hard Yankee fan. Ron enjoys being a business owner, loves dealing with the public, seeing all his customers and meeting new ones. But mostly, he loves being a proud dad of two great kids.

Maintenance Applies To Your Vehicle’s Interior, Too (MS) -- Recent studies have estimated that many Americans spend as much as three hours a day in their cars. Over the course of a typical week, that’s almost one entire day behind the wheel. That not only translates to lots of face time with your vehicle’s interior, but it also provides ample opportunities for the buildup of dirt, grime, coffee, and food stains that can leave a car’s interior appearing haggard and worn.

In addition to robbing a car’s interior of its aesthetic appeal, the buildup of dirt and grease can also cause the vehicle to degrade over time. Though it’s common to associate vehicle maintenance with what’s under the hood, drivers should also make maintenance a priority for the vehicle’s interior. When cleaning a car’s interior, address each and every nook and cranny.

Consoles & Cup Holders Perhaps no part of a vehicle’s interior is more susceptible to dirt and grease buildup than the center console, which is typically home to a vehicle’s cup holders. Spilled coffee or soda is something every driver can relate to, and cleaning such spills is harder than it sounds. No Touch(R) Interior Detailing Mousse from Permatex, a leading innovator of auto

maintenance, repair, and appearance products, is specially formulated to remove not only stubborn stains, but also older ones, making it ideal for taking care of that long-ignored yet unsightly residue at the bottom of your cupholder. Clean Under the Carpets Particularly after a long winter, a vehicle’s carpets can be a major eyesore. Remove the floor mats and thoroughly vacuum any dirt buildup that might have multiplied with each winter snowstorm or spring shower. Your carpets will look better and last longer. Dashboards & Door Panels In order to drive a vehicle, motorists must look out over the dashboard. Despite that, dashboards are often overlooked when it comes to cleaning a car’s interior. No Touch(R) Interior Detailing Mousse is formulated to remove unsightly dirt or grease buildup from all interior surfaces, including plastic, rubber, vinyl, and leather, while drying to a satin sheen to minimize dashboard reflection on the windshield. What’s unique about No Touch(R) Interior Detailing Mousse is that it applies as a mousse, meaning there won’t be any of the messy overspray and seepage into components and vents that drivers typically worry about when cleaning the dashboard and door panels. When buying a new car, many auto buyers are concerned about the car’s potential resale value. That’s a genuine concern, as resale value is often influenced by more than just the number of miles on the odometer. Dirty upholstery is an instant turnoff for most used car buyers, so drivers should be diligent and clean their upholstery regularly, including im-

399-9229 mediately after any spills. Be careful when using water to clean the upholstery, as you don’t want any water getting into places that can damamge electrical components or create a moldy smell. Practice Preventive Care Much like humans, a car is susceptible to UV rays. Whereas a human would apply sunscreen to his or her skin to protect against sunburn, drivers can apply a UV-protectant product to their vehicle’s interior to guard against problems that often result from overexposure to the sun. No Touch(R) Interior Detailing Mousse is specially formulated to protect a vehicle against UV rays that typically lead to fading, cracking, and aging. What’s more, its non-greasy formula leaves surfaces with a filmfree finish, ensuring the car’s interior will look and feel like new without suffering any harmful side effects of sun exposure. No Touch(R) Interior Detailing Mousse also has an antistatic repellant, which helps keep the instrument panel free and clear of dust for safer and easier navigation. Overcome the Odor Masking odors is another concern for many vehicle owners. While some spring days are ideal for rolling down the windows, spring showers are often a force to be reckoned with during the spring season. For drivers trapped inside a car with its own distinct odor, No Touch(R) Interior Detailing Mousse has a new car scent that ensures both driver and passenger won’t be stuck holding their noses on those long commutes to work.
