SUMMER WORSHIP SCHEDULE

Trinity Lutheran Church of West Sand Lake, and Gilead Lutheran Church of Center Brunswick will continue their regular worship times during the summer. Trinity worships at 9:00 a.m., and Gilead at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Hulihan serving both churches. In the Lutheran catechism, the sixth petition, ‘’the Lord’s prayer’’, and “lead us not into temptation’’ means God tempts no one to sin, but we ask in this prayer that God would watch over us and keep us so that the devil, the world, and our sinful self may not deceive us and draw us into false belief, despair, and other great and shameful sins. We pray that even though we are so tempted, we may still win the final victory.  We are now focusing on ‘’build one another up’’ (1thessalonians 5:11)  otherwise, let us focus on positive energy, on the other hand, look for signs of God’s grace in our community life and seek to ‘’build one another up”.   Also, starting up in the fall, families with children at or near age 14 are asked to join our two year program of  instruction which begins in September. If interested, please call 674-5501.

EMPLOYMENT SERVICES AT THE TROY PUBLIC LIBRARY

Getting a new job is always a difficult task. In today’s world you often need a computer to find and apply for job openings. If you don’t have a computer the process is harder. This is where the Troy Public Library can provide assistance. Most employers require that you apply on line. The library has multiple computers which are available at both the Main library and Lansingburgh branch free of charge. So if you see an ad requiring you to go to a “webaddress” for an application and send it in, you can do so at the library. The library offers a variety of computer classes that can help you get started using a computer if this process is unfamiliar to you. Additionally you can schedule one-on-one appointments with reference staff who can assist you in your search. In addition to computer aided help, the library has a Job and Small Business Information Center. Included here are reference materials and books to check out on resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, and career advancement. There are civil service examination announcements and job openings. The library has a collection of study guides for civil service, military, postal, police, and professional examinations and access to practice tests you can take both on-line and as hard copy. If you already have access to a computer go to www.thetroylibrary.org, hit Research on the right side and find the JobNow/Adult Learning Center in the list of data bases available to library users. ~ Submitted by Mary Muller

JOIN GIRL SCOUTS!

Girl Scouts is wonderful organization in our local community! Our Girl Scout program allows the girls to figure out what pathway (ex. Individual, camp, troop, event, and series) they would like to experience girl scouts. Many girls are usually in troops in which they plan and carry out different activities. These activities can be based on badges, journeys (bigger projects), service projects (ex. Collecting items for people, making items for others), or just for fun activities. Troops usually meet once every 2 weeks. The younger troops tend to focus more on badge work, the middle school troops and high school level troops tend to focus more on travel and fun activities. Also in our community, we have a teen troop (6th – 12th grade) that is dedicated to hiking (includes primitive camping) and only does trips during the year. Girl Scouts is for all girls’ kindergarten through 12th grade. We are forming new troops now so that we will be ready by September. Our neighborhood supports girls attending Red Mill, Bell Top, Rensselaer Schools, Woodland Montessori School, Goff Middle School, and Columbia High School. Through Girl Scouts, discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls

together. ~ Jennifer DeMarco (jennifer_demarco@hotmail.com)
