Our coop also has access to personal care items, cleaning products and pet supplies. Also, we can introduce you to the local farm community. If you have family, buying in bulk is a great way to get your products economically. Members can share products that are available only in bulk through our order splitting process. Entertainment books are now available at a better bargain than ever! Grace United Methodist Church in Nassau is selling 2014 Entertainment books for only $25. Remember they include savings not only on restaurants, but also movies, sporting events, hotels, retail stores, museums and much more. Out-of-town editions may also be ordered.

DEC ANNOUNCES DEADLINE EXT. FOR WATER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT GRANTS

New Application Deadline is December 13. Grants Will Help Fund Projects to Improve Water Quality, Reduce Polluted Runoff and Restore Natural Habitats in NY. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Joe Martens announced that the agency has extended the deadline to apply for $45 million in grants for Water Quality Improvement Projects (WQIPs) through December 13, 2013. The WQIP program is a competitive, reimbursement grant program for projects that improve water quality, reduce polluted runoff and restore habitat in New York’s bodies of water. Recipients can be reimbursed 75 percent to 85 percent of the project costs, depending on the type of project. Municipalities, Soil and Water Conservation Districts and not-for-profit corporations are eligible to apply for funding. Funding will be available for projects that focus on: • Municipal wastewater treatment • Polluted runoff abatement and control from non-farm sources • Aquatic habitat restoration Application materials for Water Quality Improvement Projects are available for download on DEC’s website at http://www.dec.ny.gov/ pubs/4774.html. MOMS SHARE WITH MOMS AT BRUNSWICK CHURCH

Brunswick Church is now offering moms with small children a group that can offer support and a safe place to share the joys and challenges of motherhood. The group, known as MOPS, is one of 3,900 around the U.S. and in 35 countries across the globe. The Brunswick Church group meets Wednesday nights from 6:15pm - 7:45pm at the Brunswick Church campus at 42 White Church Lane (off of Rt. 351). Childcare is available. ELKS NATIONAL AND STATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Applications are now available for the Elks National Foundation and the New York State Elks Association scholarships. There are two types of Elks scholarships. The national scholarship is open to all New York State high school seniors. These seniors need not be the child of a member of the Elks. The state scholarships are for high school seniors whose parent is a member in good standing in the Order of Elks. Forms for these scholarships may be obtained online at the Elks website (www.Elks.org/enf/scholars). The same application is used for both national and state scholarships, but the state must be submitted with an additional cover page which is available at nys.elks.org or at the student’s school guidance office. BIG BROTHERS, BIG SISTERS LOOKING FOR MENTORS

Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for mentors in Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, and Rensselaer Counties. We are the oldest and largest provider of one-to-one youth mentoring services in the United States. In the Capital Region, we have been matching caring adults with local children for 50 years. Our mentoring relationships are proven to be a positive influence on the life of a child. Currently, we serve over 500 children, but there are over 100 more waiting for mentors. NEW YORK STATE ANNOUNCES ARBOR DAY POSTER CONTEST

Entries Must be Received by December 17, 2013 New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Joe Martens invites fifth graders to showcase their artistic talents and help to increase public awareness about trees in New York by participating in the annual National Arbor Day Poster Contest. “Trees play a vital role in the lives of New Yorkers and are a vital part of our ecosystem,” Commissioner Martens said. “Whether someone is tapping a maple tree in early spring or relaxing in the shade of a tree on a hot summer day, trees are integral to our quality of life. I encourage fifth graders to join in our celebration of trees by drawing, sketching or painting their favorite trees and showcasing why trees are important in our daily lives.” The annual Arbor Day Poster Contest is sponsored by DEC and the Department of Agriculture and Markets. Students are asked to create an original poster depicting this year’s contest theme: “New York’s Forest Where We Live!” The New York State winner will have his or her artwork replicated as the official 2014 New York State Arbor Day bookmark and the winning poster will be presented at the annual Arbor Day Celebration in Albany. Posters must be submitted by December 17, 2013 to allow time for judging and printing of the artwork as part of the celebration of Arbor Day 2014. The contest is open to all students enrolled in the fifth grade.
