Bulletin Board “DEATH OF A BLACKHEART” MURDER MYSTERY BENEFIT DINNER Climb Aboard Mateys!  On Wednesday, November 28th, from 6pm to 11pm at Franklin Terrace in Troy, nationally recognized Randy Manning’s Jest Murder Mysteries presents, “Death of a Blackheart”, a murder mystery dinner to benefit the homeless women and children of St. Paul’s Center in Rensselaer.   Engage in a memorable evening where guests can choose to be participants or to simply sit back and watch the show.  This annual fundraiser continues to be one of the more successful events for the shelter that has helped over 200 families transition from a difficult situation back to normal life.  According to Executive Director, David Rossetti, “It’s food, laughter, and you get to help us find out who did it…all for a good cause!”  Tickets are $45 ($50 after 9/15).  A group discount rate is available at $350 for a table of 8.  Tickets may be purchased online at  HYPERLINK “http://www.stpaulscenter.com/” \t “_blank” www.StPaulsCenter.com, or call 518-434-2910. 

CoNSERNS-U FUNDRAISING BUS TRIP TO BROADWAY It’s that time of year again when we say “leave the driving to us” and bring you to an exciting play on Broadway!  CoNSERNS-U, our program in the City of Rensselaer, is sponsoring its next bus trip to NYC for Bring It On: The Musical on Saturday, November 3rd, 2012. OKTOBERFEST DINNER SUNDAY Join us for good food and good friends on Sunday, October 21 from 12 noon to 5 pm at the Towne Tavern. The menu will include roast pork loin, knockwurst, bratwurst, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, fried green cabbage, apple crisp. All food will be homemade.  The buffet dinner will celebrate the German heritage of Zion’s United Church of Christ of Taborton. The church which was founded in 1852 by residents on Taborton Mountain, most of whom had emigrated from Friedewald, Germany. It will also celebrate the lives of two deceased members of the congregation who were active leaders and excellent cooks: Elsie Cann and her daughter Lorraine Cann Dickinson. Tavern is located at 2850 Route 43 in Averill Park/Sand Lake, south of the intersection of Routes 66 and 43.  During the 10 am Sunday worship services on October 21 and 28, the congregation will sing several hymns and recite the Lord’s Prayer in German, observing Reformation Sunday, more recently known as Reconciliation Sunday. Today the active church members are descended from over sixteen different nationalities and live in twenty towns and cities. 

CIRCLE THEATRE PLAYERS RUNS SECOND WEEKEND OF “DEATHTRAP” Myra Bruhl (played by Lynn Scott of East Postenskill) frets as her husband Sydney (played by Eric Washburn of Castleton) plans to steal his student’s work by any means possible.  What will the consequences be? ‘Deathtrap’ is currently the season opener for Circle Theatre Players and runs Oct. 18, 19 & 20 at 8pm and Oct. 21 at 2:30pm at the Sand Lake Center for the Arts. NYS DEFENSIVE DRIVING CLASS On Saturday, October 20th, 2012, from 9AM to 3PM there will be a New York State approved Defensive Driving Class to Benefit the Boy’s & Girls Club of Southern Rensselaer County. Save 10% on your base auto insurance for the next three years & be eligible to receive up to 4 points off your driving record according to New York State Department of Motor Vehicle guidelines. VALLEY FALLS UMC Everyone is invited to worship at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church at 16 State Street each Sunday morning at 9:00. The service, led by Pastor G. MURDER MYSTERY AT THE FIREHOUSE The banquet hall of the East Greenbush Fire Company will be the scene of the crime in an upcoming murder mystery of one “Smoking Joe”. See if you can help them solve the murder of Joe Pullito. Joe had been a member of the fire company for years. Everybody liked Joe, a fun guy to hang out with. He worked hard and partied harder. But Joe had a few secrets that may have gotten him killed. Can you figure out who would want to put out Joe’s lights for good? This interactive event, conducted by the “In A Pinch” players, will be held on Saturday, November 3rd, at the Fire Company’s Banquet Hall, 68 Phillips Road in East Greenbush starting at 6:30 pm. STORY DINNERS RETURN TO BRUNSWICK Gilead’s Story Dinners will begin on Friday, October 26th, at 6PM in the church Fellowship Hall, located at the intersection of Routes 7 & 278 in Brunswick. The program consists of time for fellowship, a story or 2, and of course, delicious food. October’s menu consists of lasagna roll-ups, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. There is no set cost for these dinners; there will be a free will offering, and this year we are selecting a couple of charities and you will have the opportunity to donate to the charity of your choice. KIWANIS PASTA DINNER FUNDRAISER SECOND SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH

The Sand Lake Kiwanis Club wants to invite all to participate in a Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser on November 10th and December 8th, from 4PM to 7PM at the West Sand Lake Fire House on Rt. 43. Cost per meal is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 5 to 10 years old, kids under 5 are free. Meals will consist of spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, dessert & beverages. SWISS STEAK DINNER at SALEM UMC IN WEST SAND LAKE Salem United Methodish Church in West Sand Lake will be holding a Swiss Steak dinner on Saturday, October 20th, from 4:30pm till 6:00pm, for the small price of $12 for adults, and a lower cost for children. STEPHENTOWN ROD & GUN CLUB ANNUAL PIG ROAST The Stephentown Rod & Gun Club, RT 43 in West Stephentown will host their Annual Pig Roast on October 20th, from 1PM to 6PM. Dinner will be served at 4PM. ROAST BEEF DINNER AT CORNERSTONE On Saturday, October 20th, a Roast Beef Dinner will be held at Cornerstone Community Church in Lansingburgh. Dinners will be served from 4:30 to 6PM with take-out available. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $7 for children and a family rate (for 2 adults and 2 children) of $30. ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT PANCAKE BREAKFAST The next St Jude’s Knights of Columbus All-You-CanEat Pancake Breakfast will be on Oct 21st in Dammann Hall at 24 Dana Ave., Wynantskill. All the Pancakes, Sausage, Bacon, eggs, hash browns, fruit and bagels that you can eat!  All served with hot coffee and a smile by our Knights!  We will have a box available to collect items for local vets who get service at the Albany VA hospital.  Items that are needed for vets include: regular coffee; decaffeinated coffee; powdered creamer; 1 lb bags of sugar; boxes of “Sweet and Low”/Spender etc.; large and medium sweatshirts; under-wear and tee shirts (all sizes, boxers and briefs); white tube socks, Effervescent denture cleaning tablets; toiletry items, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.  Breakfast is served 8am to 11am. ELECTION DAY TURKEY AND BISCUIT DINNER The Valley Falls United Methodist Church will host a turkey and biscuit dinner on Election Day, November 6.  The menu will include turkey and gravy on biscuits and mashed potatoes, vegetables, coleslaw, cranberry sauce, pickles, and assorted pies.  Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome as space allows.  There will be sittings at 5 and 6 p.m.; and takeout meals available after 5:00. Tickets are $10:00 for adults, $5:00 for ages 6-10, and free for age 5 and under. The church is located at 16 State Street in Valley Falls, and is handicapped accessible.  Call 753-6053 for reservations and information. 1st. The church is located at 43 Church Street (East on Rte. 20) in the village of Nassau, Rensselaer County. Pantry, which provides support those in need. Unfortunately, the need is as great as ever.
