The Sand Lake Town Library is pleased to announce a November 1-8 trip to Sorrento, Italy, which overlooks the most beautiful bays of the Amalfi Coast. ST. HENRY’S CHURCH SPONSORING FALL SHOPPING TRIP

St. Henry’s Church is sponsoring a Fall Shopping Trip and it is “open to the public”. MURDER MYSTERY DINNER THEATER “MURDER IN POESTENKILL”

The Poestenkill Christian Church will host a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater on  Saturday, June 22. “Murder in Poestenkill”  written by Ron LeVan and Kathryn  Capalbo will be performed by the Highlight Acting Troupe.  Come and help solve  the mystery of who murdered Horace Serley, the bank president. Was it his wife, his son, a long time friend or a bank employee?  You can ask questions of the suspects and help the detectives discover who the murderer is.  The dinner will be an Italian Buffet, and the cost is $15 for the dinner and show.  Dinner will  be served at 6 pm and the show will start at 7 pm.  For reservations call Joyce at 283-4728.  Reservations are due by June 15th, and payment is required in advance.  Visit the Highlight Acting Troupe’s website at http:// highlightacting.org/ for more information.

LADIES’ BUS TRIP TO BOLDT CASTLE AND SENECA LAKE WINE TASTING

On September 28, Forever Young Hair Designs will sponsor a Ladies’ Bus Trip to Alexandria Bay that will visit the Boldt Castle and continue to Seneca Lake for wine tasting.  The cost is $400 per person, all inclusive (based on double occupancy).  It includes transportation, two nights lodging, meals, boat ride, castle admission, wine tasting, taxes and gratuities. SLCA PRESENTS “LOW AND LONESOME” IN CONCERT

Sand Lake Center for the Arts presents   “Low and Lonesome” on Saturday, June 1, at 8 pm.  Rock, Jazz, Country have all drawn from the wellspring of the Blues.  Phil Drum and Rob Adkins, as Low ‘n Lonesome, host a night tracing the history of Blues music from the earliest recordings of the 1920’s to the birth of electric Blues and Rock in the 1950’s.  With special guests Holly and Evan, and Sonny Speed and the Resonators, the music will sample the rural and urban styles of such Blues greats as Robert Johnson, Memphis Minnie, and Muddy Waters, narration by Ray Giguere, Blues aficionado and player.  Tickets are $16, under 18 $10, and reservations can be made at 518-674-2007 or  www.slca-ctp.org.  The SLCA is located at 2880 NY 43, Averill Park, NY.  There is plenty of free parking, and the center is handicapped accessible.

LADIES AUX. of the BRUNS. ELKS ANNUAL SHOPPING TRIP TO LANCASTER, PA

The ladies Auxiliary’s annual shopping trip will be to Lancaster, PA this year.  The bus leaves the lodge at 6am sharp on Friday, October 18,

2013, and head to the Rockvale outlets. Dinner at the Good and Plenty Restaurant and return to the Holiday Inn Express for lodging overnight. Continental breakfast at the hotel in the morning, and then go down to the Kitchen Kettle, and then onto the Tanger’s outlets. We should arrive at the lodge between 10 and 11 on Saturday night.  Rates are as follows: Prices include the bus, hotel, breakfast and dinner. $275.00 for a single room; $197.00 for two in a room; $160.00 for three in a room; $157.00 for four in a room. THE RUN FOR HELP RACE/WALK AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

The Family and Friends of Liza Ellen Warner Association, Inc. along with the Nikki Hart Children’s Memorial Fund have scheduled the sixth annual “Run For Help”. The Walk/Race, held to bring attention to the crime of domestic violence, will take place at the Goff Middle School, Gilligan Road, East Greenbush on Sunday morning, June 9th, 2013. This is a 5K event which will benefit The Nikki Hart Children’s Memorial Fund and the Unity House Domestic Violence Programs. Liza Ellen Warner and Nikki Hart, both of whom grew up in East Greenbush were murder victims in their own homes. At 9:30AM, the youth mile will be held free of charge. Each child will receive a medal. The 5K race/walk will begin at 10AM. The Town of Sand Lake will now be assisting our town residents with the disposal and handling of leftover paint – free of charge. Both water and oil-based paint will be accepted at the Town’s Department of Public Works Garage on Springer Road, Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 3 pm. The North Chatham United Methodist Church will be holding their 9th annual “Mission Possible” Craft Fair on Saturday, June 8th. SCHAGHTICOKE FAIR ANNOUNCES 2013 FAIR THEME AND DESIGN CONTEST

The Schaghticoke Fair is very excited to announce the 2013 fair theme as “Who’s Your Super Hero?” This theme was chosen to represent the many different kinds of people that are super heroes every day. The fair will be introducing “Who’s Your Super Hero?” into the buildings, exhibits, fair entries, and contests. In addition to “Super Hero”, the fair will be initiating for the first time a food drive. Building on the theme, “Souper” the contest design entries can incorporate this spelling and or design elements. We want the students to have fun with the idea and we are looking for some creative input. Lauren Madigan, a student at Hoosic Valley High School was the winner of last year’s “Happy Feet” theme design contest. The contest is open to all currently enrolled high school students throughout Rensselaer County. The selected design will be used on the 2013 fair brochure, t-shirt and for marketing purposes. Each student that submits one design entry will receive a one day fair pass to the 2013 Schaghticoke Fair. In addition to having the winner’s work published, the winner will also receive a one day fair pass with one unlimited ride ticket, a 2013 “Who’s Your Super/Souper Hero?” T-shirt, a certificate of achievement presented during the week of the fair and will also become an honorary judge for future themed design contests.
