Dedication Ceremony

TROY - On June 8th at 10 AM there will be a dedication ceremony by the Friends of Oakwood Cemetery in conjunction with the Troy Cemetery Association of a sign to acknowledge 164 men, women and children who were re-interred in Oakwood Cemetery in 1875 from the Third Street Burial Ground in Troy to make way for a new City Hall. No stones mark this spot since they were probably broken in the removal. The Van Rensselaer Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will also be placing a wreath to honor three patriots who fought in the Revolution and who were re-interred at the site. They are Robert Woodworth, John Stoughton and Frederik Wolf. All are welcome. Help us honor revolutionary War Patriots.

June 6, 2013 PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail). Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me, I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. Favor granted. J. J.

Gifts To Thrill Your Dad At The Barbecue

(MS) -- With Father’s Day right around the corner, you can go back to the old standby tie and golf tees package or you can step up to something that will come in handy every time your dad (or anyone else) fires up the grill. The grilling experts at Broil King have some suggestions for every type of grill master, so take a look at these: The Neat Freak -- For the dad that likes to keep the grill spotless before and after a meal, a heavy duty grid brush is a must. Recommended is one with a ‘grime guard.’ Broil King says it will keep the grill clean as well as your grill master. Pair it with a biodegradable grill cleaner and let dad worry about cooking, not cleaning. The Family Man -- Trying to balance adult meals with kid-friendly choices can be tricky, but burger presses and grill baskets make it easy to accommodate everyone. Sliders are the perfect size for little hands, and a basket that can grill at least six at time will help keep hungry mouths fed. A stuffed burger press is perfect for creating unique flavour combinations for the adults. Try Greek burgers stuffed with feta cheese, roasted red pepper, and spinach. The Enthusiast -- If he insists on being called Tex, Tiny, Tubby, or just “dad” when he’s tending the barbecue for hours on end, consider a pair of heavy stainless steel pork claws. Broil King’s experts claim they make shredding pork a walk in the park. The Entertainer -- Items designed for both cooking prep and presentation are great gifts for an outdoor entertainer. A jalapeno pepper rack adds grill appeal to this popular appetizer and a pizza stone helps backyard chefs prepare and serve an authentic pizza pie. For the dad who has it all, explore the wide range of rubs, marinades and wood chips available to provide hours of flavor experimenting. Additional gift grilling ideas are available online at broilkingbbq.com.

Good Career Paths For Recent Grads

Boomer-McLoud.com

It has been a stressful couple of years for college students. An unstable economy has led many students to second-guess their investments in higher education, and fear regarding employment prospects after graduation are common among today’s students.

Graduates who majored in fields of study that are more recession-proof than others could have decided advantages over students who went with other majors. Knowing which careers are still going strong and which have stalled can help college students with goals of finding a career with growth potential. * Financial analysts and managers: Many forecasts indicate jobs in finance will continue to remain strong with high growth. Despite financial ups and downs, people still need to be educated on how and where to spend their money. Students with degrees in finance and marketing may have advantages over others. * Engineers: Engineers apply the principles of science and mathematics to develop economical solutions to technical problems. Their work is the link between scientific discoveries and the commercial applications that meet societal and consumer needs. Many different fields require engineers, from mechanical and civil industries to electrical and chemical industries. Engineering remains a strong course of study with many different subsets for specialization. * Networking/systems administration: With the world revolving around computers, jobs in the systems administration field remain viable. Keep in mind that there is also a wide array of competition in these careers, but the ability to make high salaries is what drives many to pursue careers in networking and computer systems administration. * Accounting: Similar to other financial careers, accounting jobs remain stable despite the uncertain economy. Where there is money to be spent, individuals and businesses will require the services of accountants to keep all of their accounts in check. Entry-level accountants can receive in-house promotions and become finance executives.

Motor oil, and when to change that oil, has long been a point of contention. Many drivers grew up being told that motor oil should be changed every 3,000 miles. However, that myth has been debunked for many of today’s vehicles, which should come with suggested intervals between oil changes. According to Edmunds.com, in 2010 the average interval for oil changes was 7,800 miles. In addition to changing a car’s motor oil less frequently, there are other things drivers should know about motor oil.

* Oil does not necessarily need to be changed before a No Appointment Necessary long trip. Taking a trip? While it’s good to have your car exRoutes 4 & 32, Mechanicville (at Jack Byrne) amined before embarking, if OPEN: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm; Saturday 8am-Noon 664-7346 the recommended oil change interval is not up, then you do not need to preemptively change your oil. Such a change is likely unnecessary and will not improve the performance of your vehicle during the trip.

* Black oil does not necessitate a change. Conventional wisdom once suggested if the oil on the dipstick is black then it needs to be changed. But nowadays automotive professionals are noting that black oil is doing its job and different additives might be changing the oil’s color, which means the oil doesn’t need to be changed.

* You can use petroleum-based oil after using synthetic. Another longstanding myth regarding motor oil was that once you use a synthetic motor oil instead of a petroleum-based oil you have to continue using synthetic oil, which is often more expensive than more traditional motor oil, in order to avoid harming the vehicle. However, automotive professionals have noted that 1471 Broadway 163 West Main Street these two types of oils are now often blended, meaning switchSchenectady Amsterdam ing back and forth from one to the other is not likely to cause Tel (518)346-8706 Tel (518)627-4236 any damage to your vehicle. Just be sure to use motor oil that Fax (518)346-8708 Fax (518)627-4238 meets the standards set forth in your vehicle’s owner’s manual.

* Consider an earlier oil change after buying a new vehicle. Sometimes a new vehicle will need an oil change after its first 3,000 miles. However, this does not mean your vehicle will need one every 3,000 miles. According to Blackstone Laboratories, who study motor oil, oil samples taken from engines during their initial 3,000 miles of driving had elevated metal levels from the camshafts and pistons. These elevated levels will not necessarily be harmful, but some auto manufacturers recommend a shorter initial interval just to be safe. Honda, however, includes an anti-wear additive in their break-in oil and advises against changing their oil early. Consult your owner’s manual to determine if it’s best to change your oil after the initial 3,000 miles or to let it go until the recommended interval.

Eventually, you may be left with a larger, unsightly crack stretching across the glass, and what started as a inexpensive repair job has now turned into a costly windshield replacement.

Glass repairs may or may not be covered by your insurance. Repair bills for damaged windshields can range from $75 to several hundred dollars. Many drivers are unaware that windshield repair does not have to be a difficult or expensive venture. With doit-yourself kits, repairing chips can now be done in mere minutes for right around $10. Permatex(R) has developed a special Windshield Repair Kit that fills in the ding and stops the damage from spreading while minimizing the blemish on the glass. It comes complete with everything needed to make a permanent, professional quality repair in minutes, including step-by-step instructions and an online demo video. There is no mixing required and the repair cures automatically under natural sunlight. For the kit to be effective, the chip or bullseye should be no more than a 1 inches long and must be on the outside of the windshield. It is a good idea to make the repair as soon as possible after it happens. This prevents the crack from getting contaminated and spreading. The Windshield Repair Kit follows the same steps that a repair shop would, including sealing the crack with resin under a vacuum. View the Permatex how-to demo video at www.permatex.com. In addition to quickly repairing a ding in the windshield, there are other windshield maintenance tips to follow. * Clean the windshield regularly. Regular cleaning prevents the buildup of dirt, sand and debris on the glass and helps avoid scratches when you use your wipers.

WWW.LATHAMFORD.COM Demystifying Health Care Reform For Southern Saratoga Businesses The Affordable Care Act, a/k/a Health Care Reform or “Obamacare”, is on the minds of many as the various deadlines approach for implementation of its provisions. Because of the complexity and uniqueness of the Act, local businesses have expressed confusion over its application and apprehension about the potential affects on their bottom line. There is no doubt that change is coming to our business community as the Act comes into effect. Businesses with under 50 employPete Bardunias, ees will be affected differently from larger ones, but so President/CEO, the Chamber many nuances exist within this legislation that threaten of Southern Saratoga County to cast many sincere, law abiding business owners into conflict with the IRS. New rules will govern how employees are considered full time versus part time – another source of concern given the many seasonal enterprises located in our region. The implication for business seems unprecedented - never before have so many businesses been impacted as broadly by a single piece of legislation. So how do we as a community come to grips with the Affordable Care Act? The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County has an event planned for Tuesday, June 11, 2013, 7:30-9:00AM at the Hilton Garden Inn in Clifton Park, to share expert opinions and insight into how our changing health insurance landscape will affect businesses both large and small. A panel consisting of John Millet, CPA (Bouchey & Clarke), Rose Miller, SPHR (Pinnacle Human Resources) and Andrew Koenig, CPA (the Bonadio Group) and moderated by me will explore the potential impacts, review the complicated matrix of potential fines and penalties that can be assessed on businesses, consider the FTE math used to determine the number of employees for penalty purposes, and determine the Act’s potential impact on employer operations. Admission is $25 for Chamber members, $40 general admission. Given the complexity of this issue, it will be money well spent. See you there!
