BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail) Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God. Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth! I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me. I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. Thank you for favor received. M.S.

While the tour road closes for the season, the Park Visitor Center is open daily from 9am-5pm, except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Days. Also, the grounds of the Battlefield are open to pedestrian use during daylight hours, 7 days a week, and its hiking trails make a great place for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Convenience Carts Now Available at Library CLIFTON PARK – The Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library now has convenience carts for patrons, due to a thoughtful gesture by Kathy Kohler. She wanted to remember a dear friend who was an avid reader and library user who recently passed away from bone cancer. This friend had to use a cane but wanted to make her trips productive and would take many items to tide herself over until her next visit. It was getting difficult to juggle all the materials and stay steady on her feet. Kohler felt there must be others in this situation and made a donation to the Library in Carol Raphael’s name to purchase one cart. The Friends of the Library liked the idea so much they purchased three more. The carts can be found just beyond the Welcome Desk on the way to the Returns window. (A)

* Maintain your bike so that it is safe to ride. * Do not carry others on your bike (such as a friend or a child) if it is not designed to do so. Riding on the handlebars or behind the cyclist can be dangerous. * Avoid the use of ear buds or headphones while cycling. You want all of your senses to be available to avoid accidents. * Cycle out of the way of drivers’ blind spots so you’ll be more visible. * Do not ride your bike on the sidewalk where you could injure pedestrians. Drivers * Be aware that you could be sharing the road with pedestrians, cyclists or motorcycle riders. * Use caution when making turns or at busy intersections -- pedestrians could be crossing. * Always yield the right of way to pedestrians. * Pay attention to the road and limit distractions inside the vehicle. This includes keeping the radio tuned low so that you can hear sounds outside of the car. * Use caution when entering or exiting your parked vehicle. * Use caution in and around bus stops or other points of mass transit. * Regularly check the side of the road for pedestrians, especially in areas where there are no sidewalks. With drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists working in concert, accidents can be reduced. Pedestrians * Always use sidewalks and crosswalks when available. If no sidewalk is present, be sure to walk against the direction of traffic. * Use traffic signals as your guide. However, make sure all traffic has stopped before crossing the road or stepping off of the sidewalk. * Keep control of pets when walking on a leash, so you’re not pulled out into traffic. * Use caution at bus stops. Many injuries occur from pedestrians running to catch a bus or stepping out into traffic after exiting a bus. Remember, there will be another bus behind the one you’re chasing and safety is more important. * Wear brightly colored or reflective clothing if walking at night. * Do not cross highways or interstates on foot.

Safety Not Just Drivers’ Responsibility Safety should be a top priority for everyone sharing the road, including cyclists, drivers and pedestrians. The following are a few tips each of those groups of travelers can employ to ensure the roads stay safe for everyone. Cyclists * Bicyclists must follow the same traffic rules as automobile drivers. Stop for red lights and stop signs, signal lane changes or turns, and drive on the correct side of the road. * Watch out for parked cars. Oftentimes, drivers exit their vehicles and do not check for oncoming traffic or cyclists. You can be hit by a swinging car door. * Make yourself as noticeable as possible. This could include using a light or horn on the bike to signal your presence to drivers. * Always wear a helmet and other applicable safety equipment.

Stay Abreast Of Vehicle Recall Information

Driving a new vehicle off of the sales lot can be exciting. Brand-new vehicles are supposed to be reliable and free from maintenance concerns. However, sometimes manufacturers recall a vehicle, forcing drivers to visit the auto body shop sooner than they had hoped. According to the Auto Insurance Organization, 390 million vehicles have been recalled since the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act became law in 1966. Vehicles are recalled for a variety of reasons, including poorly performing tires, faulty pieces of motor vehicle equipment and unsafe child safety seats. From 2009 to 2010, Toyota alone recalled 8.5 million cars, the single largest recall in history. It can be disconcerting to learn that your vehicle is being recalled. The uneasiness of driving a potentially dangerous vehicle coupled with the prospect of being without a car can be daunting.

Vehicle manufacturers must notify consumers that a recall is in place. But sometimes a vehicle owner may not be aware that there is a recall. In the event of large recalls, like the recent ones involving Toyota and Bridgestone Tires, the story makes the national news. But there are other ways drivers can stay current on recall information to ensure their personal safety.

Did You Know? According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s annual “Hot Wheels” list of the 10 most stolen vehicles in the United States, the 1994 Honda Accord was the most stolen vehicle of 2011. The NICB examines vehicle theft data submitted by law enforcement to the National Crime Information Center. While the 1994 Accord was a hot item among thieves, 2011 saw a continued decline of vehicle theft overall. Crime statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigations indicated a 3.3 percent decline in vehicle theft from 2010. In fact, 2011 saw the fewest vehicle thefts since 1967. But the NICBwarns that there is a growing trend that illustrates an increase in the theft of late model vehicles, despite the development of more sophisticated anti-theft technology. That’s due, the NICB suggests, to professional thieves who can now figure out the key codes for specific vehicles and have a replacement key made in a matter of days. NICB president and CEOJoe Wehrle indicated that his organization was aware of 300 such thefts in just the first three months of 2012.
