CAN SCIENCE AND RELIGION UNITE INTO MAKING THIS A BETTER WORLD? CLIFTON PARK – Join Rabbi Chanan Markowitz at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library for a lecture series titled: Can Science and Religion Unite Into making This A Better World. This four-part series will run Wednesday evenings January 8th-29th from 6:30-8:30 pm. Science teaches where we come from and religion explains why we are here. Throughout history religion has endeavored to dominate science. Yet, today it seems we can learn about the meaning of life and human relationships through biochemistry, neuroscience and evolutionary psychology. These four lectures will explore the often flawed interdependence of science and religion, finding instead ways science and religion can unite into making this a better world. All are welcome to this drop-in program; no registration required. For more information, please call the Library at 371-8622.

Adopt A Pet...

Happy New Year From Your Local Chamber Of Commerce A popular tune from the 20th Century warned us that “the years go by as swiftly as a wink,” and boy do they ever! It’s hard to believe we are at the beginning of yet another year, but sure enough the calendar says its now 2014. Remember when the Millennium was something in the distant future? Now it’s in a history book, and we can already think of so many things that have changed since that time. Pete Bardunias, Fourteen years ago gasoline still cost under $2.00, the Chamber the Twin Towers still stood in New York City, and I was President/CEO, of Southern Saratoga County still “Mr. Mom” caring for an infant child, running a small business from home far downstate with no idea I’d one day be a Saratoga County resident. Now, that infant (my son Jonathan) is 14 and halfway through 9th grade at Shen, and he still can’t believe I ever lived in a time when there were no iPods, cell phones or video games. As the aforementioned song says, we should enjoy ourselves in Tech Valley in 2014. GLOBALFOUNDRIES continues to build its manufacturing empire in Malta, while all across southern Saratoga County our small business community is growing, seeking new opportunities and coming together through the Chamber and other networking mechanisms. If you’re a business owner or would like to be one, now is the time to look into the many resources available to help you move forward. Farm businesses will get extra attention from the Chamber this year. Looking for a volunteer opportunity? The Saratoga County Community Development Program can use your help. We will be doing some renovation work at the Brookside Museum in mid-January, plus cleanup work at Historic Lock 19 and the Mechanicville Train Station later this spring. For more information or to volunteer, please contact us at (518) 371-7748 or email me at pete@southernsaratoga.org .

Terrier, Pit Bull Mix, 3 Year Old Female, Grey/White India is a smart girl with a very faithful nature. Once she’s friends with you, she is yours entirely. This girl also has a beautiful grey coat and is just a very attractive mutt. Watch India’s video.

Silverbell

Terrier, Pit Bull Mix, 2 Year Old Female, Brindle/White Silverbell -- a lovely name for a lovely mutt. This girl is affectionate and low-key. She also is very good-looking with absolutely beautiful markings on her coat.

Boots

Domestic Short Hair Mix, 13 Year Old Female, Black/White Hi, my name is Boots, and what a handsome black and white tuxedo cat I am. I have wonderful big eyes. I’m a lady of a certain age. I came to the shelter with my sister Tubby and my brother Sysco. After we spent our whole lives with one family, they moved and had landlord issues and could not take us. We lived with dogs and kids there and got on fine with everybody. My front feet are declawed so I must be an indoor cat. This move is a big change for cats of our age. But you know we are doing okay because we are all so nice and friendly. I am a very affectionate puss and I enjoy people so much. Take me home and we can enjoy lots of cuddle time.

Scarlet

Domestic Medium Hair Mix, 2 Year Old Female, Brown/Orange

Hi there, I’m Scarlet. I have a torbie coat - that means tiger with orange. My fur is medium length and real soft. My former family had young kids and a dog, and I got along fine with everybody. Then a new baby came along, and became allergic to me. So here I am, and I’m a little confused by this big change in my life. That’s why I seem a little shy. But I like to be petted and after I get to know you I get over my shyness. You can brush me and that will help us bond, and keep my coat looking its best. I’m still young and playful so we can have lots of fun together.

Thank you Blessed Mother Mary, for prayers answered, and interceding on my behalf with your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus.

TOP-RATED SEDANS FOR THE NEW MODEL YEAR Sedans have long been a popular option among drivers. Sedans are popular family cars and are frequently seen as safer alternatives to compacts and coupes. Each year, Consumer Reports and Motor Trend rate the best vehicles in each class, and the 2014 list includes some surprising sedans. For the first time in 20 years, an American car has topped the list of the best-rated sedans, according to Consumer Reports. The Chevrolet Impala has seized the top-rated spot away from the Japanese and European manufacturers who have dominated the list for two decades. The 2014 Impala scored a 95 on a scale of 100. Many car enthusiasts and trend forecasters say this rating is telling of General Motors’ efforts to improve consumers’ perception of the brand. In one year, the Impala went from one of the worst vehicles in the category to the best. The Consumer Reports ratings include road test results as well as safety information. Reliability and owner satisfaction ratings provided on older cars are based on surveys from millions of subscribers. When rating sedans, predicted reliability, owner satisfaction, accident avoidance, overall MPG, and other qualities each factor into a vehicle’s overall score. Sedans are categorized based on size, with vehicles broken down into small, midsize and large categories. Sedans also are classified by their styles, such as upscale, luxury, sports, and even fuel-efficient. Overall, sedans remain a popular choice because they can provide a good balance of cost, comfort and efficiency. Many sedans are roomy, quiet and comfortable, making them ideal family vehicles for those who do not want the girth or potentially bumpy ride of a truck. In addition to the Chevy Impala, Consumer Reports list the following vehicles among their most highly-rated sedans: * Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE * Toyota Camry XLE (V6) * Hyundai Sonata Limited (2.0T) * Hyundai Sonata GLS (2.4T) *Chevrolet Malibu 2LTZ (2.0T) * Subaru Legacy 3.6R * Toyota Camry LE (4-cyl.) 85
