Do You Have It In Your Heart To Help A Rescued Throwaway Cat Named Sophia! She was left to die, abandoned because she was getting older and would need some care. She showed up on someone’s back step and cried for help. The cat that came to be named Sophia was on her last legs from ill health and starvation. As a tropical storm from Hurricane Irene was about to hit the northeast, Sophia was saved and given shelter in a family’s garage. A local rescue group, Capital District Humane Association (CDHA), has provided vet care. But, Sophia needs a loving home. She is a sweet cat who loves to be petted and held. Her favorite thing is to snuggle in your lap and give you kisses. Please consider helping Sophia by adoption or a contribution to CDHA.

Christmas Tree Debate People have firm beliefs on what’s better for the holidays: a natural tree from the nearby tree farm or an artificial tree purchased at the store. Proponents for both side haves their share of opinions regarding which is more environmentally friendly or fiscally responsible. Christmas celebrants who want to veer away from the argument completely can select a live tree (with roots intact) for their tree of choice this year. Christmas trees that can be planted afterward are easily found at lawn and garden retailers or from the very same tree farms from which trees can be hewn. Chances are the tree is already packaged in a large pot, to make transport a little easier. A homeowner who is considering a live tree will have to decide where the tree will be planted afterward and plan for that location as soon as possible. That’s because it can be particularly difficult to dig a large hole in which to plant a tree when the ground is thoroughly frozen. Laying the groundwork for the hole in advance will make post-Christmas planting possible. Tree experts say that a live tree should not exceed 5 feet in height. Larger, more mature trees can have difficulty acclimating to transplanting and may go into shock. Try to keep the tree outdoors as much as possible and only have it indoors to decorate for a maximum of 2 weeks, otherwise the warm, indoor temperatures may mimic spring and bring the tree out of dormancy. When getting ready to transplant the tree outside, transition it back to the cold by keeping it in the garage for a few days before moving outside.

3 Tips For The Perfect Holiday Buffet By Carla Jordan

617 Plank Road, Clifton Park, NY 12065

The countdown to the holidays is on, bringing with it the challenge of how to serve a large gathering fast and easy. Fear not! There’s a simple solution. Forego the traditional, full-service, sit-down meal and opt instead for a buffet-style serving. Follow these three steps and yours will be a gathering remembered with fondness by both your guests and you. 1. Divide and Conquer: No more waiting in lines as Uncle Fred peruses the spread so slowly other guests nearly faint from hunger! “Set up multiple food stations. This idea will save your sanity,” says Chef Jeff Gillis, www.CelebratingHome.com. “A few days before your gathering, clear most items off your kitchen countertops, table, island and dining room buffet and move contents to the laundry room or garage. Convert each area into a serving station where foods will be grouped by category. Label each area with a sticky note so that when the big day arrives, the stations can quickly assembled.” At each serving station, stack plates so diners needn’t traipse off to the table for one. Pre-fill glasses with ice and beverages for quick pickup. Remember, it’s hard to carry more than a plate and glass so preset the table with napkins and flatware. 2. Control the Crowd: “Don’t think twice about placing tables in multiple rooms,” adds Chef Gillis. “That’s better than crowding everyone together or asking guests to balance plates on laps while sitting on your sofa.” To seat people quickly (and without a fuss), use place cards. 3. Keep It Simple: Flowers in a vase are so last year. Instead, style up the buffet with an eyecatching “Gratitude Tree,” a sculptural bronze metal tabletop tree festooned with ribboned tree tags. Guests write what they’re thankful for on tags and after dinner’s done, take turns reading. This is a unique way to remind guests about the true meaning of the day and, because the tree arrives ready for display, it’s a real timesaver. Remember -- every minute saved adds up to extra time you can spending enjoying the day with your guests. GG11B633

November 22, 2011 DEAR HEART OF Jesus In the past I have asked for many favors, this time I ask you for this very special one. Take it Dear Jesus and place it within your broken heart where your father will see it. Then in your merciful eyes, it will become your favor, not mine. Amen. Say this prayer for 3 days, promise to publish it and your favor will be granted.J. L.
