Shirt Factory hosts annex to 2013 Hudson Mohawk Region Juried Show at The Hyde GLENS FALLS, NY — The Shirt Factory Gallery happily hosts The 2013 Artists of the Mohawk Hudson Region Annex Show in association with The Hyde Collection. The Annex Show opens with a reception at The Shirt Factory Gallery on Friday, October 11, from 8 to 10 p.m. Admission to the show and reception is free and open to the public. The reception is immediately following The Hyde Collection's opening reception and awards ceremony, which is from 6 to 8 p.m. For The Hyde's opening, RSVP is required (792-1761, x323) and there is a $15 admission. Hyde members get in free. The Annex Show runs through Saturday, November 2, with expanded gallery hours: For the duration of this show, The Shirt Factory Gallery will be open Tuesday through Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m. The 2013 Artists of the Mohawk Hudson Region exhibition at The Hyde Collection runs from October 12 to December 9. Info: “We just love partnering with The Hyde,” says Kate Austin-Avon, who co-manages The Shirt Factory with Dolores Thomson. “This summer, we had three Georgia O'Keeffe inspired art shows in our building, working to expand the 'Georgia' experience for the many visitors that The Hyde brought to town. Mrs. Austin-Avon adds, “Three years ago, The Hyde partnered with the Tom Myott Gallery, which was formerly in the space now occupied by The Shirt Factory Gallery. This year, Dan Cameron, juror for the 2013 exhibition, has continued with the precedent set in 2010 by placing the art works to their best advantage in both locations. The Shirt Factory Gallery is hosting a companion element of The Hyde's exhibition, including works that have been designated as juror's awards. It looks fantastic in the gallery and we're only a few blocks away.” Hyde director Charles Guerin says, “We are pleased to partner with the Glens Falls Shirt Factory Gallery which expands access to the exhibition by presenting The Annex Show, a companion installation.”

Benefit Concert For Keepmasonmoving.Org CAPITAL DISTRICT - Performers, businesses, and volunteers from across the region have banded together to host a benefit concert for Keep Mason Moving, a new local organization dedicated to helping children with terminal illness, at the Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs on Sunday October 13th, 2013 from 1:00pm – 7:00pm. Less than three months ago, Keep Mason Moving was nothing more than a vision to support Mason Devine, a local six year old boy diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. In less than two weeks, the Putnam Den in Saratoga Springs will be hosting the first of many fundraisers to support the organizationʼs mission to help children with terminal illness and their families focus on the quality of time they have together. Leading the charge are several local performers, businesses, and a team of dedicated supporters. The event will feature local musicians, food from many area restaurants, and a day filled with indoor and outdoor activities for children of all ages. The $25 admission to the event includes a Keep Mason Moving wristband, delicious food, 6+ hours of music, and activities for children. Children under 13 enter free with paid adult admission. Turn a Mason Jar Into an Eco-Friendly Travel Mug (NAPSI)—ThereĘźs good news for moms, dieters, students, sports fans or others looking for a convenient way to take their favorite meals and drinks with them when theyĘźre on the go. The Cuppow drinking lid and the BNTO lunchbox are designed to turn the all-American mason jar, or canning jar, into a useful and environmentally friendly travel mug or lunchbox. “Mason jars make great beverage and food storage containers,â€? says Joshua Resnikoff, co-founder of Cuppow. “TheyĘźre inexpensive, durable, microwavable and dishwasher safe. The only problem is that because they have large openings, theyĘźre not easy to sip from, and theyĘźre not great for keeping wet and dry foods separate.â€? The Cuppow lid adapter sits underneath the metal lid of a mason jar; itĘźs a simple, eco-friendly alternative to expensive travel mugs and poor-performing, messy disposable hot cups. ItĘźs designed to handle all kinds of liquids, including hot or cold coffee and tea, smoothies or fresh-pressed juices. The BNTO lid adapter—also from Cuppow—turns a mason jar into a lunchbox by separating the jar into two compartments so you can mix or dip like a champ. It holds 6 fluid ounces (ž cup) and is built to fit snugly under the standard metal lid of a wide-mouth jar. Both the Cuppow and BNTO are made in the U.S.A. from 100 percent recycled and recyclable food-safe plastic thatĘźs BPA-, BPS- and phthalate-free, so theyĘźre safe for the whole family. October is National Fire Safety Month. Make it a priority, urges PIANY GLENMONT, NY – The Professional Insurance Agents of New York State Inc. reminds homeowners and renters that with the heating season, comes fire dangers. The trade association urges the public to take the time now to review fire safety tips with their families so they will be prepared in the event of a fire emergency. This is a good time to make sure that your home is insured properly before, an incident. Insurers generally recommend that people insure their home for its full replacement cost, which means it is insured under a homeowners policy for 100 percent of the cost of repairing or rebuilding it at the time it becomes necessary. If the homeowner purchases a guaranteed replacement cost endorsement, the full amount would be received to rebuild regardless of inflation. “Under a standard insurance policy, personal property and possessions will be insured for their actual cash value, which is its replacement cost at the time of loss, minus depreciation of its value and any deductible applying to the policy,â€? says Alan Plafker, CPIA, president of PIANY. “In order to receive full value for property, a policy should include replacement cost coverage, which also protects from both depreciation and inflation. Keeping your homeowners or renters insurance policy up-to-date and making sure all valuable are covered is important protection against tragedies.â€? “The best way to practice fire safety is to prevent one in the first place,â€? says Plafker. “A tragedy such as a fire can happen at any moment. Professional, independent insurance agents live in the communities where we do business. The safety of our friends and neighbors is always our priority.â€? You should always be aware of potential hazards in your home. PIANY suggests starting by keeping these general tips in mind: • Every home should have working smoke detectors. Ideally, they should be placed on every floor and in every bedroom. • Check all electrical appliances, cords and outlets. Make sure they are in good condition without loose or frayed cords or plugs. • Do not run electrical cords under rugs. • DonĘźt let lamps and/or night-lights touch bedspreads, curtains or other fabrics. • DonĘźt leave the kitchen if the stove is in use. If you must leave the area, turn off the burners. In winter, heating overtakes cooking as the main cause of house fires. A primary danger is space heaters, especially the electric ones. “Because they are small, they may seem harmless,â€? Plafker says. “But placed close to furniture or curtains, they can be deadly.â€? Never leave a space heater on when you are not in the room. Do not go to sleep with it on. Use it to warm the bedroom, but shut it off before you climb into bed, advises PIANY. If you do have a fireplace, have the chimney cleaned professionally at least once a year, and make sure theyĘźre kept clean and covered with a screen to keep the sparks from jumping out. Most importantly, plan a “get out, stay outâ€? plan, advises PIANY. “Practice fire drills at home,â€? suggests Plafker. “Identify a safe family meeting spot and practice it so everyone will know what to do in the event of an actual fire in the home. These drills can make the difference in the event of a real emergency. Fires are frightening and can cause panic. By rehearsing different scenarios, your family is less likely to waste precious time trying to figure out what to do. Test your plan. Have a drill in the middle of the night.â€? Professional independent insurance agents are neighbors, friends and family to those they help to insure. Their greatest concern is for their communities and the safety of those that comprise them. PIANY is a trade association representing professional, independent insurance agencies, brokerages and their employees throughout the state.

OZWBMVFEIPNFTDPN HOME STAGING TIPS (NAPSI)—If youʟre putting your home on the market, home staging is an important element in preparing your home for sale. The idea is to spruce up inside and outside and pack away personal items that may distract a buyer. One familyʟs keepsakes are another familyʟs clunkers, so pack away cute photos, unusual artwork and accessories, and replace tired towels, bedding and curtains. Clean out overstuffed closets so they look roomier. A little maintenance can help get the best price for your home. Wood floors are a big selling point, so make sure yours look their best. Minwax Hardwood Floor Cleaner will remove dirt and grime without leaving any residue. If your floors are scuffed and scratched, bring back their warm sheen without the mess and expense of refinishing. Minwax Hardwood Floor Reviver is easy to apply and refreshes worn hardwood floors. Finally, small details count: Touch up nicks and scratches in woodwork and wood furniture with an easy-to-use stain pen, such as the Minwax Wood Finish Stain Marker. You can learn more at Now your home will be ready for its close-up.

Brody is a playful, funny and sweet boy. He’s friendly to dogs and people, big & small although we don’t know how he’d do with feline housemates. Brody is a 4 year old neutered Cocker Spaniel who’s up to date on vaccinations. He may prefer a home with older kids as he can be a little chatty/ also be looking for a companion who can be home with him, take him along, or send him to a doggy daycare as he reportedly suffers from separation anxiety and does not do well left alone.
