THE GOLF TOURNAMENT illustrated above provides funds that assist residents in the greater Corinth/Lake Luzerne/Hadley area when they experience financial difficulties at any time throughout the year, or as long as funds last. Since last Juneʼs tournament, 20 individuals and/or families have received help with expenses of all types, totaling nearly $5,000. The Community Crisis Fund collaborates with Corinthʼs Council of Churches and the “Share the Warmth” program; with Catholic Charities; and other community-based organizations. This collaboration helps extend each oneʼs limited financial resources. Prior to each yearʼs tournament, donations are solicited from area merchants and businesses of all types. We also solicit contributions from golf courses located in the Southern Adirondack region. Without their generosity in the giving of money, merchandise, greens fees, etc., conducting the tournament and operating the Community Crisis Fund would not be possible. Please support our local businesses and courses; they give back more than we realize. Tim Murphy, Chairman Golf Committee

CONGRATULATIONS TO Todd Eddy and Rachel Powers, this yearĘźs recipients of the Hadley Business Association Arts & Business Scholarships. We are proud of the youth of our community and pleased that these two scholars have chosen to pursue careers in business or the Arts. Each year the Hadley Business Association awards two $250 scholarships to deserving seniors in the Hadley Luzerne Central School district. The Hadley Business Association would like to thank the members of the community who have so generously supported the HBA events like the Maple in April Festival, Run, Pedal, Tube Triathlon and the St. Nicholas German Dinner, and other fund raising efforts. Without your help, these scholarships would not exist. Our congratulations go to Todd and Rachel on their graduation from HLCS and our sincere wishes for their continued success.

MartinĘźs Lumber Woods Walk – Sustainability made simple - June 7 MartinĘźs Lumber in Thurman hosts its 3rd annual Woods Walk: Understanding Sustainability, on June 7. What at first was conceived as a small open house to give the public a chance to see a saw mill in action and learn about the concept of sustainability in forestry, had blossomed into a celebration of all things wood-related. This year Gary and Wini Martin, who run the operation with WiniĘźs brother Bill Good, will be joined by nearly a dozen others—wood workers, artisans, naturalists, and others in the wood processing business. The lineup includes Bill LaPrairie, who joins Gary on walks into the woodlot, pointing out medicinal plants they encounter as Martin explains the concept of selective cutting of trees. Walks this year are scheduled for 10:30, 12:30 and 2:30. The event runs from 10 – 4, with most activities running continuously. Sawmill demonstrations are at 10:10; 12:10 and 2:10; Woods Walks are at 10:30; 12:30 and 2:30. JohnsburgĘźs Pinky OĘźDell demonstrates the firewood processors he builds, while Bruce Updike operates an Alaskan milling attachment for a chainsaw. John Los demonstrates wooden spoon carving and also offers cutting boards and Windsor chairs, while heritage craftsman Andy LeBlanc of Indian Lake, whose business, Barn Works, rescues and restores old barns. At the June 7 event he will demonstrate hand-hewing a timber. Others participating in MartinĘźs Lumber Woods Walk include Wini Martin demonstrating paper beadmaking (guest may try this) and stained glass stepping stones; Donna Wormwood, artist, with Wild by Nature paintings and Adirondack Rustic Miniatures; Ellen Kenney, silversmith, with jewelry by North Jupiter; Bruce Irwin of Parasearch, will show and teach water dowsing; Sally Feihel shares Native American craft and homemade soap by Adirondack Suds and Scents, and will take reservations for an August paranormal tour; Persis Granger, author of fiction and nonfiction, will chat with visitors. Kids are welcome to join in a “Once upon a time‌â€? story creating session. Woods Walk, a family event, is open to the public at no cost. Find it at 280 Valley Road, Thurman; see map and read more at http://www.persisgranger.com/Adk_Martin_WoodWalk.htm

email@example.com Come join us in Greenwich June 13 and 14 for the Whipple City Festival GREENWICH - This year, the Whipple City Festival will once again feature living history demonstrations in Dorr Park. On Saturday June 14th there will be four regiments reenacting four different periods in history. The 2nd Continental Artillery Regiment is a group of re-enactors from the Revolutionary War. Cannon will be on display as well as firearms from that period. Musket firings will take place at different times during the day and several campsites will be set for display with re-enactors in period dress. The 125th NY Regiment Association will be representing the Civil War period. This living history group represents a typical military campsite of 1861 and is chartered with the NYS Education Department. Tents and campsites will be set up. This group will have musket firings during the festival and wooden muskets will be available for children to help the re-enactors do musket drills. The 99th Infantry Division will be representing World War II. A field table, 4-5 puptents, an ammo box as well as WWII weapons will be on display. This year we are also adding WWI to our group of reenactors. They will have a table with memorabilia from that era. Also in Dorr Park will be The Greenwich Town Historian and the Willard Mountain DAR and the Washington Co. Historical Society with information booths and items for sale. The park is still open to having other historical organizations set up info booths. Contact the chamber at firstname.lastname@example.org. Bring the whole family to the Whipple City Festival and enjoy the fun, music, history and food at this annual event.

The French & Indian War Encampment in Bolton Landing on Lake George - June 14 & 15, 2014 Rogerʼs Memorial Park, 4928 Lake Shore Drive, Bolton Landing, NY 12814. 518-644-3831 Cost: FREE! Join us for the French & Indian War Encampment in Bolton Landing on June 14 & 15, cost is FREE! Lake George was the all-important water highway between New York and Montreal during the seven-year conflict that defined North America. It is believed that the French Commander, the Marquis de Montcalm, gathered troops at this spot to prepare for the attack against the British at Fort William Henry in 1757. This victory proved to be a pivotal moment in the history of our country. Visitors to the encampment will experience the camps as they prepare for war and witness the daily life of the soldiers and camp followers. Battles between the bateaux and shore forces with cannon will take place at 2:00pm each day. Sutlers will offer 18th century wares. In addition to the battle and childrenʼs activities Jack Vargo will be signing his book, The Spike Tomahawk: A popular tool and weapon in Colonial North America Blankets of Wood. All events are free. Sponsors include the Bolton Landing Chamber of Commerce, Town of Bolton, Warren County Tourism Department.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES (NAPSI)—For dependable vehicle operation, itĘźs essential, for starters, to prevent ignition system failure. That way, you wonĘźt be left stranded by the side of the road. How To Tell “Symptoms of ignition problems include dimming of headlights and interior lights, illuminated ĘťCheck EngineĘź and battery lights, and failure of accessories to operate,â€? explained Rich White, executive director, Car Care Council—the source of information for the “Be Car Care Awareâ€? campaign promoting regular vehicle care, maintenance and repair. “ItĘźs a good idea to look into these symptoms immediately to prevent ignition failure from bringing your car to a complete stop.â€? What To Do Driving habits such as frequent engine on-off cycles cause more wear on the starter than a simple trip back and forth to work. Other factors, including driving and weather conditions, mileage, vehicle age and excessive electrical draws like in-vehicle entertainment systems, can affect the ignition system as well. Since the fuel injection system and car battery are linked to the ignition system, a problem can be difficult to diagnose because it may be caused by one of many factors, such as a dead car battery, faulty ignition switch, worn-out spark plugs, bad fuel injectors, ignition coil problems, fuel pump failure or starter motor failure. “ItĘźs a good idea to include an ignition system checkup in your vehicle maintenance schedule,â€? added White. Where To Learn More To help motorists follow a vehicle maintenance program, a free digital “Car Care Guideâ€? can be found on the councilĘźs website at www.carcare.org/car-care-guide. The guide is in English and Spanish and includes information on service interval schedules, questions to ask a technician, and tips to drive smart and save money.
