PRESENT POINTERS (NAPSI)—You can be known for having the gift for giving if you heed three hints: 1. Make it personal. Consider the recipientʟs hobbies and interests. Give a gardener seeds and gloves; send kitchen equipment to the gourmet cook. 2. Make it unique. If you have a special talent for knitting or painting or photography, give something youʟve created just for them. Even if your photography skills are not that picture perfect, you can turn any snapshot into something memorable with a customized photo gift. To help, Walgreens provides personalized wall decor, mugs, totes, blankets, ornaments, desk accessories, clothing, calendars, photo books, canvas prints, puzzles, and cases for smartphones and tablets. You can even get holiday ornaments in assorted shapes and frames. Thereʟs something to make just about everyone on your list feel extra special 3. Wrap it up. Any gift can seem better in a beautifully wrapped box. Learn More Information For further information and ideas, go to www.Walgreens.com/photo or visit any in-store kiosk.

FRUGAL GIFT WRAPPING IDEAS Holiday shoppers spend billions of dollars each year on gifts for friends, family and coworkers. But holiday shoppers also spend substantial amounts of money dressing up those gifts with bows and wrapping paper. Shoppers may not want to spend much more on wrapping paper, bags and other ways to dress-up their gifts, and by employing a few tricks of the gift wrapping trade, they may not have to. The following are some frugal, yet flashy, ways to wrap presents this holiday season. * Children's artwork: Over the course of a school year parents can accumulate dozens of original pieces of art from their children's time in the classroom. Instead of relegating those pictures to a memory box or temporary glory on the refrigerator, turn them into unique gift wrap. Pair these pieces of art with colored ribbon, and everyone who gets a unique masterpiece will feel special. * Newspaper: Recycle newsprint and comics into wrapping paper. Encourage everyone to wrap in newspaper for a cohesive look come Christmas morning. * Cloth: Leftover cloth from Halloween or cloth purchased to create homemade curtains can be turned into giftwrap for awkwardshaped gifts. Use decorative ribbon to seal the bundle shut. * Brown paper: Brown paper tied with twine or ribbon is inexpensive and can easily be recycled after use. Use a marker to put the names of gift recipients on each package to save on gift tags as well. * Glass jars: Use mason jars when wrapping smaller gifts, including gift cards, to give them an arts-and-crafts feel. * Fabric gift bags: If you're handy with a needle and thread, sew sacks out of leftover fabric to make gift bags of various sizes. * Cookie tins: Find unique cookie tins from yard sales or leftover tins from holidays past and use them as gift boxes. * Recipes: If you will be giving a cookbook or food-themed gifts, print recipes that can be used as gift wrap and then later used to make certain dishes. * Baby linens: From blankets to wash cloths, use baby linens to wrap infant-themed gifts for new parents. * Baskets: Wicker baskets are available in various shapes and sizes. They can be used to make a gift collection and then reused over and over again. There are many creative and inexpensive ways to wrap gifts this year instead of relying on preprinted and often expensive wrapping paper.

Friday, December 6th at 5:00 p.m., at the Luzerne Market, 12 Main St., Lake Luzerne Dedication of Lake Luzerne Mural - 2013 The formal Dedication of the Lake Luzerne Mural - 2013 to the Town of Lake Luzerne and the Memory of Bob Mackey will kick off the town of Lake Luzerne's Main St. Holiday Festival and formally close the Warren County Bicentennial for 2013 celebration in Lake Luzerne. The artist, Sher Millis, will be formally thanking Supervisor Gene Merlino and the Town Council of Lake Luzerne for their monetary support and encouragement for the project; Steve and Jim Mackey for their permission to create a mural on the Luzerne Market wall. It was Steve who requested that the subject of the mural be the "Lake" in Lake Luzerne; the Stuart M. Townsend Middle School's Extended Learning Class and Director Jim Kneeshaw for their financial contribution and all the students hands-on labor working on the mural; the H-L High School students who accomplished all the mural wall (97'x7 1/2') prepping and Drylocing; the Glens Falls National Bank for their financial support; the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council for their award of the initial funding via an individual artist grant of $2,500 (this project is made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program with supplemental funding from Rivendell Foundation, administered locally by the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council); Sharen Beasen for her enrollment in the "adult" mural class and the many hours she spent on the wall; and last but not least, "all the residents who stopped, admired, cheered us all on, took pictures, as we were working giving us energy to keep going over these past 6 months of creating it". Light refreshments will be served afterwards. This event is being sponsored by Sher Millis Murals, Luzerne Market and the Lake Luzerne Regional Chamber of Commerce. Saratoga Arts Depends on Volunteers to Make First Night a Success SARATOGA SPRINGS - Saratoga ArtsĘź First Night, the largest New YearĘźs celebration in the state outside of New York City, brings over 70 regional and touring performing groups to over 20 venues throughout Historic Saratoga Springs every year. This family friendly, fun- filled evening would not possible without the help of over 200 volunteers who oversee performance venues, answer questions, and make sure revelers ring in the New Year in a fun and safe manner. Saratoga Arts offers First Night volunteers the opportunity to be an integral part of this wonderful Saratoga Springs tradition. Volunteers can serve as a First Night hosts or hostess for a chosen 3 hour shift between the hours of 6:00 pm and 11:40 pm. New volunteers are asked to attend a one hour training session on one evening in December to prepare for the event. As a token of appreciation, all volunteers receive a free First Night Saratoga admission button, and a limited edition First Night poster. Volunteers are asked to sign up early, especially if they have a favorite venue that they would like to be considered for placement. Please visit Saratoga ArtsĘź website at http://saratoga-arts.org/firstnight/volunteers for more information, and call Volunteer Coordinator Kate Morse at 518-584-4132 x. 201 or e-mail kmorse@saratoga-arts.org to sign up today.

Chocolate Initials - A Dutch Tradition SCHUYLERVILLE - Chocolate Initials - A Dutch Tradition! In the 16th and 17th centuries, according to old Germanic traditions, letters made from pastry were presented to children at birth as a symbol of good fortune and this became a part of the St Nicholas legend in the 19th century. A bread dough letter was used to identify whose gifts were hidden in a shoe or under a sheet. Then the children had to find their initial in order to see what else St Nicholas had left for them. When the Dutch, famous as traders, brought home cocoa beans along with coffee, tea and spices from exotic lands, their love affair with chocolate began. They learned to make some of the finest chocolate in the world. Soon, the St Nicholasʟ letters were made from chocolate and the tradition continues to this day. The Dutch chocolate makers keep St Nicholas supplied with enough chocolate letters for every household in Holland – and even have plenty for us! The Dutch Tradition of Chocolate Initials continues! Just in time for Schuylervilleʟs St. Nicholas Day Celebration, Saturday, December 7th, 2013. Orders for Chocolate Letters are now being taken for delivery in the first week of December and throughout the Holiday Season. Chocolate Letters, in either Dark, Milk Chocolate, 3 x 4 inches in size, come individually packaged in a festive box. The cost is $6.00 each and can be ordered by calling or emailing, Chamber Pres., Dave Roberts, 518-695- 6923 or drobert1@nycap.rr.com, also Marie Foster, 518-695-5609, fostermr@verizon.net Please make checks payable to the Schuylerville Area Chamber of Commerce. Car-Selling Suggestions (NAPSI)—When itʟs time to sell your car, taking a few simple steps can help you get the best price. What To Do For example: • To price it to move, check online pricing guides and newspaper ads to see what others are asking for similar vehicles. • Clean it up. Take it to a trusted mechanic to determine its condition. Consider fixing any dings and scratches. Throw away all trash, remove all personal items, and give it a nice wash and wax. • List your car in the classified section and online. • Get a Carfax Report to see how the carʟs reported history affects the retail book value, then provide the report to prospective buyers so they can feel comfortable and confident about buying your car. Learn More For further facts and tips to help you sell and buy a car with confidence, go to www.carfax.com.

Safety: Off The Road -(NAPSI)—Whether youʟre having fun on an ATV (all-terrain vehicle) or in an ROV (recreational off-highway vehicle), staying safe can be as simple as ABC and 123. A. Learn the differences between the types of vehicles: ROVs, also called side-by-sides, have a steering wheel, acceleration foot pedal and brake foot pedal. ATVs have a handlebar for steering, a throttle controlled by a thumb lever, and hand levers and a foot pedal for the brakes. Most ATVs are designed for one rider who straddles the machine, out in the open. With an ROV, itʟs important to wear the seat belt and keep all arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times. B. Get the size right: Itʟs critical that ATV riders be the right size for their machines. Children should not ride adult-sized ATVs, though youth-model ATVs let kids as young as 6 enjoy riding under adult supervision. ROVs are only for operators age 16 or older with a valid driverʟs license. C. Protective gear: Riders of either vehicle need proper helmets that meet Department of Transportation standards, eye protection, gloves, long sleeves and pants, and sturdy boots. An ROV should have seat belts, a rollover protective structure, side retention features and handholds. 1. Ride right: These vehicles are for off-road use only and should be taken exclusively on designated trails. 2. Ride sober: Neither should ever be operated while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 3. Get safety trained: Both should be used only after proper training, through the ATV Safety Institute (www.atvsafety.org) or the Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association (www.ROHVA.org). Then go have fun—safely—off-road.
