1814 Execution of Soldier in Greenbush, NY Was Wrong

CAPITAL REGION – I came upon this local history story by chance. A soldier (un-named) was executed for desertion at Cantonment, Greenbush (now the grounds of Red Mill School) in 1814 during the War of 1812. I have a copy of an officer’s (also un-named) written witness account of the execution. It is very clear from this account the charge of desertion was wrong and, hence, the execution was wrong. I am now trying to locate records of this court martial and execution in an attempt to right this wrong and clear this man’s name of desertion. I am making progress in establishing some identities with the help of local historians. If anyone can help with information or suggestions, I would be most appreciative. I may be reached at: Phone: 518-465-7938 or Email at: Ms58Edsel@aol.com. (P)

They were elected during the church’s annual meeting. The Vestry serves as the governing board of the Episcopal parish. Richard Lenihan of Waterford serves as a warden. Rose Tokarz of Melrose and Judy Tarullo also serve as Vestry members. Mary Ann Kelts of Waterford serves as treasurer and Brown as Vestry clerk. The Rev.
