The new vehicle will be based out of the Troy Fire Department and respond with a trained team of Troy firefighters. It will enhance the HAZMAT response and communications capabilities with the Rensselaer County Bureau of Public Safety at emergency incidents. Authorizes Purchase – To protect the safety of the residents, staff and visitors at the Van Rensselaer Manor, the Legislature authorizes the purchase of software for the entry system which will no longer interface with the employee payroll system comprising the security of the residents. TIPS TO MAKE HOLIDAY COOKING EASIER

(StatePoint) Holiday cooking is no easy feat. Meals tend to be more time-consuming and complex to prepare than standard fare. But by planning ahead, you can make all those delicious meals and treats in record time without undue stress. Stock Up Early Don’t leave your grocery shopping for the last minute. The stores will be overrun with other eleventh hour shoppers. The first thing you should do is to plan your menu in advance. Then take inventory of your fridge and pantry, and compose a detailed shopping list accordingly. When you’re crunching on time, the last thing you’ll want to do is run to the store because you forgot that crucial ingredient. Beef Up Your Kitchen Be sure your kitchen is well-stocked with the right tools to ensure proper execution of all those tasty holiday treats. Be sure your knives are sharpened and ready for the onslaught of meal prep. An extra set or two of measuring spoons and mixing bowls is also a great idea when you’re making so many dishes at once. You probably already have a food processor or traditional blender, but adding a hand-held immersion blender to your kitchen tool box will aid you in quick preparation of pureed soups, sauces and homemade whipped cream. The wrong gear can ruin a great recipe. Many holiday recipes call for zesting to add flavor and garnish to cookies, cakes, pies and drinks. If you’re trying to zest with a peeler or poorquality zester, you may be adding the bitter pith of citrus fruits to an otherwise delicious treat. Opt for a zester with vshaped teeth that skim across the surface of citrus. For example, the Edgeware Better Zester has non-stick coating, ensuring smooth zesting and easy clean up. More information on proper zesting can be found at www.edgewareproducts.com. Cook and Bake Ahead Not every kitchen task needs to happen on the day of your festivities. Lighten your load by prepping what you can beforehand. Bake cookies, brownies and breads in advance and store in the freezer with wax paper or an airtight container. Just be sure to let them cool to room temperature before storing. A sauce’s flavor improves with time, so prep your sauces a day in advance. Dice vegetables for side dishes ahead of time and store in plastic baggies in the fridge. Make a salad the day before and dress just before serving. Don’t let the joys of holiday entertaining be a cause for sorrow. Streamline your meal preparation with a little planning.

30th ANNUAL TROY VICTORIAN STROLL

WHEN: Sunday, December 2, 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. WHERE: Downtown Troy Celebrate the holiday season at one of the Northeast’s premier free holiday events. The Victorian Stroll attracts more than 20,000 people to historic downtown Troy and offers over 100 attractions. Live music, dancing, theatre, costumed performers and more are set against a backdrop of unique shops, storefronts and restaurants, bringing the streets alive with holiday magic. Outdoor concessions will line the streets, serving hot chocolate, hot cider and doughnuts, and other holiday eats. The Stroll concludes at 5 p.m. with Troy Mayor Lou Rosamilia and Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce President Linda Hillman lighting the 90-foot-high Troy Soldiers and Sailors Monument with a magnificent display of holiday decor. The “Celebration of Lights” is intended to symbolize holiday spirit as it shines brightly in Monument Square. For more information on the Troy Victorian Stroll, please contact the Chamber offices at 518.274.7020 or visit www.victorianstroll.com.

VICTORIAN STROLL at SAINT PAUL’S

On Sunday, December 2nd, St. Paul’s will hold its traditional VICTORIAN TEA, from 1PM until 3:30PM in the Guild House 27 State St, First Floor. There will be complementary tea and coffee and tea treats for sale; and a comfortable place to warm up and relax. While you are with us, there is a Gourmet Boutique and Craft Boutique for your shopping pleasure and our very well-known “Treasures” corner with many great buys for yourself and as gifts. The Church, on Third Street will be open for tours, and Brian Hoffman, the organist/Choir Master, will present a Recital on the Organ at 1:00 PM. Families are invited to come both for the music and to enjoy refreshments at the Tea. All of us at St. Paul’s are looking forward to Stroll Sunday — come in your Victorian outfit for our mutual enjoyment. We will be celebrating the 30th Victorian Stroll in this Fair City, along with many other interesting venues, and we WELCOME you to come to Troy for this special day.

The family of William (Bill) Gaba would like to express their gratitude for the support and prayers during this most difficult time. The family would like to acknowledge the professional courtesy extended and presence of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department, NYS Troopers, local fire departments, local and long distance towing/recovery companies, ambulances, EMTs, paramedic vehicles, area business owners, friends and family who expressed their sympathy at Bill’s services and the kindness extended throughout; this has helped to lighten our burden and was a tremendous blessing. Bill will be sadly missed by friends and family. The Gaba Family is honored to continue serving the public with its towing/recovery & auto parts business. A scholarship in Bill’s name is being formed that will assist in funding the education of young firefighters. Thank you for your patronage and we look forward to continue serving you. NAVY SEAMAN WHITE COMPLETES BASIC TRAINING

Navy Seaman Apprentice Steven C. White, nephew of Matthew Stevens of Troy, N.Y., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eightweek program, White completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. The capstone event of boot camp is “B attle Stations”. This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. “Battle Stations” is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Its distinctly ‘’Navy’’ flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a Sailor. White is a 2011 graduate of Southern Regional High School of Manahawkin, N. J.
