Pai’s Tae Kwon Do is a family-run business that opened its doors in 1984. The Troy location celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and North Greenbush its 10th. This fall we will be celebrating the grand opening of our 7th location on Western Avenue in Albany. Grandmaster Doo Young Pai, born and formally trained in Korea, is a 7th degree black belt, oversees the Troy, North Greenbush and Albany schools. We offer a variety of programs geared toward children, adults, families and corporate wellness. Whether your goals are to become more fit, learn selfdefense techniques, compete in martial arts tournaments or simply to make some wonderful friends, Pai’s Tae Kwon Do can meet your needs. We specialize in offering opportunity to our students to become more fit, both mentally and physically, and to learn self-defense techniques, all in a fun, non-threatening environment. Our black belt instructors are skilled martial artists who serve as mentors and teachers while patiently sharing their knowledge with students ranging from age 4 to 80. They will guide you toward greater self-discipline and confidence as you improve your flexibility, balance and overall coordination. Programs help you achieve a higher level of fitness and a greater knowledge of self-defense. Additional benefits of Tae Kwon Do include improved self-discipline, increased energy and endurance, toning muscles and losing inches. Skills learned in class seamlessly transfer to everyday life. Every program can be adapted to suit an individual’s needs and ability. Sadly in today’s world, children often experience bullying and self-confidence can falter greatly. Enrolling your child in a program at Pai’s Tae Kwon Do greatly helps to counteract such situations and is also a proactive approach to protecting your child. At Pai’s, students are taught respect for others, while fostering improved self-confidence and self-awareness. Younger students also enjoy increased ability to focus and behavior problems tend to decrease. Parents of Pai’s Tae Kwon Do students have a great appreciation for this outcome. Studying Tae Kwon Do provides an opportunity for families to learn and grow together. Pai’s Tae Kwon Do offers many family oriented programs outside of classes. Programs geared toward adult students, as well as our corporate wellness program offer similar benefits. Additional outcomes include stress relief, increased ability to focus, higher energy levels and greater productivity. The corporate wellness program is a proactive approach to improving employee health, both mental and physical. The end results include happier, healthier employees who are more productive, decreased insurance claims and significantly reduced use of sick time. A minimal investment affords the opportunity to reap substantial rewards.

The benefit walk will take place Saturday, September 14, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the Saint Rose campus, 432 Western Ave., Albany. PET TRUSTS: PLANNING AHEAD FOR PETS
purrfect kitty of the month PLEASE ADOPT ME! My name is Star. I’m a sweet, white female kitty with darkgrey tiger accents and a heart-shaped mark on my nose. I’m just about two years old. I’m gentle and a little shy, but I love getting pets from you and warm up as I get to know you. I was living outside in the Park Ave neighborhood in Albany when a concerned lady took me to the rescue group. I seemed afraid of people at first, but now I look for affection. I’m looking for a warm and welcoming home to call my own, and hope that someone will see this article and think “that pretty Star kitty will be purrfect for me!” Bring me home and I’ll purr my thanks to you! As with all Purrfect Companion kitties, Star is up-to-date on routine shots, house trained and neutered or spayed. For more information on Star, please contact the following Purrfect Companions’ representative: Maryann at 331-2221 or at email@example.com. Please use this phone number ONLY for adoption purposes! Purrfect Companions is a nonprofit, all volunteer rescue organization. We are always looking for good volunteers to help with the kitties or assist at our adoption clinics. If you’d like to donate a little time to these worthy animals, please give us a call at 463-8709. Our adoption clinics are held 12:30-4:00 most Saturdays and Sundays at Petco, Northway Mall, Albany NY. Stop by and see some of our other kitties! We may have one that is just “PURRFECT” for you!

HOME PURCHASE/REPAIR FUNDING AVAIL. for RENSS. CO. RESIDENTS Rensselaer County Housing Resources (RCHR) currently has grant funding available to assist local residents with obtaining and maintaining their homes. RCHR has been awarded grant funds under three government programs for down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers, home rehabilitation projects, and/or home modifications to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. To improve accessibility, income-eligible homeowners and renters in Rensselaer County may receive grant funding to make enhancements to their homes. Home improvements include items such as building ramps and widening doorways. Applicants who are Veterans are particularly encouraged to apply and will find that the income eligibility limits are higher for them. The Homeowner Rehabilitation Program can assist incomeeligible homeowners with home repairs such as health and safety repairs, roof replacement, structural, electrical, plumbing and heating system repairs or replacements, window replacements and energy efficiency measures. Grant funds are also available to assist income-eligible firsttime home buyers with funds to be used for down payment and/or closing costs at the time of purchase. Income-eligible Rensselaer County residents outside the City of Troy may apply for these grant opportunities. In addition to income-eligibility, applicants must be current on their mortgage, property taxes and homeowners insurance at the time of application in order to qualify. For more information about these grants or other homeowner programs, visit RCHR’s website at www.triponline.org/rural or call TRIP NeighborWorks® HomeOwnership Center at (518) 690-0020.
