Consequences of Prescription Drug Abuse Prescription Drug Overdoses, Clark County, NV The Coronerâ€™s Office in Clark County, Nevada (Las Vegas) reported that in 2010 there were 288 deaths as a result of prescription drug overdoses. In 2007 and 2008, the number was 344 and 349 people, respectively. Two-thirds of those dying from prescription drug overdoses in 2010 were between 36 and 64. Decedents had an average of four different substances in their systems at the time of death and 95% of them had at least one indicator of substance abuse. Eighty-five percent of the deaths were ruled accidents and not suicides. Sixtyseven percent of people who overdose on prescription drugs are male. (Clark County Coroner, 2010) Chart 4.
