From Tommy Steele to the Beatles, Shirley Bassey to Dusty Springfield, Harry Hammond captured the emergence of British rock ‘n’ rollers Cooper Gallery Almost There by Joe Simpson 14 May to 16 July 2011 A stunning exhibition of photo realistic paintings by the artist Joe Simpson. The twelve paintings have been produced in response to songs by up and coming bands, each painting having an accompanying soundtrack. Cooper Gallery Mining Art from Yorkshire Collections 14 May to 9 July 2011 An exhibition selected from regional and national museum collections showing the diverse work of artists who depicted scenes from the mining industry such as John Nattes, Frank Brangwyn, Norman Cornish and Tom McGuinness Elsecar Heritage Centre From the Jam 20 May 2011 Building 21, Elsecar Heritage Centre, Doors 7.30pm Prepare for an incendiary live performance of The Jam’s Greatest Hits. Cannon Hall Museum Behind the Mask 2nd July to 9th October 2011 A rich and colourful exhibition of international masks presented by the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre. It will feature original masks from Mexico, Japan, Italy and Korea. Mayor’s Parade Saturday 9 July 2011 – Visit Barnsley Town Centre and watch the annual parade, this year featuring marching bands, cheerleaders, majorettes, classic cars and the much anticipated return of the traditional floats. From a wealthy local family, Cooper undertook a Grand Tour and journeyed throughout Europe in search of art and culture.
