Small is beautiful as family pull the pints at their very own bar WAB History takes a look through the archives at WAB news from years gone by. This week, we flash back to what hit the headlines in July 2012... July 11 Family Opens Barnsley’s Smallest Bar A GOOD-HUMOURED family have spent two years building what they think is Barnsley’s smallest bar. The Tate family, from Ardsley, have converted their garage into ‘Tate’s Bar’ which has a full size bandit, a mini wurlitzer, two beer pumps and all the spirits, flashing lights and even a sign. Dad Graham, a taxi driver, said the grand opening last night was a family affair with wife Tracy pulling the first pint and son Aaron drinking it. He said: “I’m throwing down the challenge now – I reckon we’ve got Barnsley’s smallest bar. It seats a grand total of three. “We’ve been at it for nearly two years now, doing bits here and there. So it was nice to finally get it open, all my mates are wanting to come and try it now.” July 12 Town Centre Development Plans Up For Discussion THE VISION to redevelop the town centre is to be put to residents to give their views. Councillors will meet next week to approve a draft plan to be sent out for consultation – it includes 14 development sites. Coun Linda Burgess said: “This is a very important planning document for the future of the town centre. I hope that as many people as possible will take the opportunity to give their views

once the consultation begins.” A formal consultation period is scheduled to run from early August to the end of September. July 23 X-Men Actor Comes To Barnsley FAMOUS actor Sir Patrick Stewart will be in Barnsley tomorrow for graduation day. Students from University Campus Barnsley will be having a ceremony in The Civic and there will be a procession of 85 graduates in their robes and academic headgear walking from the University Campus to the venue. Sir Patrick Stewart whose film roles include ‘Star Trek’ and ‘The X-Men’ is the Chancellor of the University Campus Barnsley, which is part of the University of Huddersfield. Sir Patrick will hand out awards to a total of 221 students at the ceremonies.
