ADDING SUSHI TO THE MIX Since moving from Korea to Canada in 2006, Jaechun Choi has been sharing his love for sushi through local restaurants. Most recently, he and his wife have been doing this through their new Sushi Tonari location in The MIX Food Court. “When we were coming up with restaurant name ideas, we wanted a name that spoke truly to the food we serve and the environment we operate in.” Tonari stuck because in Japanese it means ‘neighbour’. Within this beautiful new location they hope to encompass a friendly and neighbourly feel.
Prior to working in the restaurant industry Jae managed a retail outlet in Korea. He enjoys a challenge and believes that change is good. He has the same perspective about his menu, hoping to build relationships with customers, adapting his menu and incorporating daily specials accordingly. “We keep it simple and traditional.” From classic salmon rolls to vegetarian options such as sweet potato, cucumber and avocado rolls, there is something for everyone to try. Shellfish allergies can also be accommodated upon request.
Straight from the Fisherman’s Market to Sushi Tonari’s kitchen, their menu items are always made fresh daily. Whether you are an experienced sushi-eater or looking to try something different, we are excited to have sushi thrown in to The MIX.
FROM FOOD TRUCK TO FOOD COURT!
CLIENT SERVICES CENTRE RENOVATION Scotia Square’s Client Services Centre is being reconfigured to improve daily operations, service and overall safety. These upgrades will also positively impact employee’s ability to manage work load and streamline certain processes.

sensible and fun way to test the waters before the restaurant.” Karl notes. Having added three additional employees to the team, this is just the beginning of perusing their long term goal.
Tin Pan Alley’s Karl and Jill Warme met in Toronto and have worked together in the restaurant industry for almost 14 years. It wasn’t until 2013 that they began operating their food truck.
Choosing Scotia Square as the new location was a combination of it being good timing and a good fit, says Jill. One important factor was that the restaurant’s hours allow for flexible balance of work/family lives.
“The truck came about because we wanted to explore our entrepreneurial spirit. It was a
Tin Pan Alley’s menu includes their staple items, most of which are gluten-free and locally produced. They hand process all of their potatoes and are always looking for ways to expand their offerings. The idea of Taco Tuesday and Fish Friday specials has been talked about and with no hesitation Karl stated that “We have such an amazing team so we are going to be able to do it.” For the folks at Tin Pan Alley, it’s the excitement of the people that makes it worth it. So get excited and check out their new location at The MIX food court!
The centre was last renovated 10 years ago. Several technological advancements were made throughout that time, but it felt necessary to revisit and update this service centre. Along with enhanced fire monitoring capabilities, a significant amount of attention was focused on a new digital camera install for the main mall. There has been 25 IP cameras strategically placed that are now recording on a secure digital network. This will increase coverage of all common areas as well as enhance image quality for police use if required. Upgrades such as these align themselves with state of the art dispatch configuration modeled on federal RCMP control centres. “We want to ensure we remain current with best industry standards and maintain system stability in managing fire and life safety infrastructure” says Paul Graham, Manager, Client Security.

CARSHARE ATLANTIC ADDS ANOTHER CONVENIENT WAY TO MOVE All CarShare cars are equipped with a parking pass for Park Lane, Scotia Square, and Brunswick Place parkades.
CarShare Atlantic is soon adding Free-Floating cars to their fleet, meaning your family or business will soon have three modes of transportation:
Free-Floating (One-Way) Carsharing: We call these Flex cars. This form of carsharing will be brand new to Halifax, and will allow you to travel anywhere without having to bring the car back to its original parking spot. Instead you just park in a legal spot within the zone. For example you can book a car, zip from South End Halifax to Downtown Dartmouth, and park the car without having to worry about going back over the bridge later. Or you can book one after work, go grab groceries, and (provided you live in the zone) park the car right on your street. Then the next person can take it from there! This new way of moving is much more spontaneous and very convenient. The app will be constantly updating, and the locations of available cars will be at your fingertips. To keep up to date on Free-Floating Carsharing follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Station Based (Two-Way) Carsharing: You will see these cars parked in your neighborhood (including Park Lane and Brunswick Place!) easily identifiable by the green CarShare Atlantic logo. These cars are reliable – you always know where they will be parked and you can book up to a month in advance.
