No use getting all wrapped up in something so impermanent as appearance.

And if you want to be common, I can claim that I tamed you. A demigod in a bonnet, They’re going to know it ain’t true.

You’re always haunted by the idea you’re wasting your life.

I mean, they say you die twice. One time when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time.

little things console me, because little things afflict me.

No man really knows about other human beings. The best he can do is to suppose that they are like himself.

You must understand the whole of life, not just one little part of it. That is why you must read, that is why you must look at the skies, that is why you must sing and dance, and write poems and suffer and understand, for all that is life.




And that’s the thing about people who mean everything they say. They think everyone else does too.

She was having a hard time of it. But as troubled as she was, she looked absolutely beautiful with her radiant tan and her penetrating eyes. She was glowing with health.
