Delectable summer menu

Celebrate summer with Doppio Zero and its new menu. Yum dishes include a variety of light oliveoil-based pastas, gourmet sandwiches and wraps, salads, pizzas and mains. If you are looking for fresh ingredients, then look no further. Doppio also bakes its own low-GI breads, including Cape seed health and rye breads. The Vitamin salad with fresh baby spinach, strawberries, seeds, nuts, sprouts, creamy feta and a poppy seed dressing comes highly recommended. +27 (0)11 486 4109, doppiozero.co.za

Gingko revived

There is a new summer menu at Gingko, the two-year-old Parkview restaurant whose menu is packed with healthy, but delicious, treats and meals. Owner Catherine Speedie and Executive Chef Regev Afek have brought their passion for travelling into their new menu, presenting a host of culinary traditions. Breakfast menus offer flatbreads, shakshuka and frittatas as well as wraps and smoothies, while the lunch menu gives taste buds a tickle of wild salmon, lamb, or a new burger made with organically farmed meat. There is also a lunch buffet of quiches and other bakes as well as curries and salads. Sticking to its ‘clean, but tasty’ ethos, Gingko offers optional raw, gluten-free, sugar-free or vegan dishes. Gingko prepares its food without preservatives or colourants and uses organic, free-range, locally grown produce as far as possible. There is also an outside deck for summer dining, and a children’s playground. +27 (0)11 486 3361

Delicious reading

Miss Dahl – From Season to Season is the sequel to Sophie Dahl’s popular Voluptuous Delights. Go on a food journey through the seasons – think nostalgic squash and Parmesan soup for autumn or grilled peaches with pistachios and ricotta for summer. Beautifully presented, this is a must-have for any kitchen shelf. Distributed by Jonathan Ball Publishers. jonathanball.co.za

Gastronomic landmark

If you silently shed a tear or two when the upmarket Auberge Michel closed its doors earlier this year, then take heart, as award-winning restaurateur Michel Morand is back with a bang. His new à la carte restaurant venture is situated at Emoyeni in Parktown, a magnificent 105-year-old building with exquisite panoramic views of Johannesburg’s Northern Suburbs. In conjunction with Nonhlanhla Mavie, who is in charge of operations at Emoyeni, Michel gives Joburg foodies something to really salivate over – a beautiful six-table restaurant which serves lunch and dinner from Monday to Saturday. The small, but well-considered, menu changes every month and there is a regular degustation menu that includes a paired glass of wine with each course. +27 (0)11 544 6900
