Double music award win for Crew Club! Members of the Crew Club were celebrating after winning at two major music competitions in April. Singer Amy Chapman won the talent contest “Who’s Got Talent 2009?” held at the Theatre Royal, Brighton after singing “Wonderful World.” Days later the club scooped Best Edited Video at the MTV Boom! Awards Ceremony, London for their music video of Jack Savoretti’s “Soldier’s Eyes.” Organisor and presenter of the talent contest, Marc Richardson said: “Well done to Amy Chapman, this year’s winner.” Amy was presented with a cheque for £500.

From the editor...Jade Hello and welome to the latest issue of Crew News. Over the past few months, club members have been celebrating sussesses with music wins, showcase performances and achieving the Arts Award. Hope you enjoy the read! JADE BANKS
Showcase at Brighton Centre Members and staff of the Crew Club celebrated young peopleâ€™s acheivements at the annual Showcase Event, held at The Brighton Centre in March. The event awarded young people with certificates for achievements in music, media, sports and healthly living, and for gaining The Arts Award for the Kickz and e2e projects. Parents and club partners were treated to live music and dance performances, devised by professional musicians from Musical Moves.

Speeches were given by the youth forum, staff, Sussex Police and Mears Social Housing Repair Company. The event also featured in The Argus newspaper.
Music videos Young people have been busy making more exciting music videos.
Arts Award success
Pupils from Longhill Secondary School and Whitehawk Primary School have written and recorded their own songs “Wanna B Starz” by the Street Rollers and ”Soccer Sun” by the Musical Mix Masters. Club member Sadiq Miah aka Eathquake has also recorded his music video “Light’s Out.”
Participants of the Kickz project and e2e course celebrated achieving The Arts Award. The level 1 qualification is equivilant to a GCSE. One learner, Josh McCabe, 18, described the how the project is helping him: “I want to make beats and write rap lyrics so this has given me a chance to look at how I would make a career out of it.”

Soccerena Film A football film which featured interviews and footage of young people from the club has been released on DVD. Production company Redbird Media followed participants of the Kickz project as they made spray boards for a new Soccerena with Brighton & Hove Albion. Producer Pauline McIntosh said: â€œA very big thank you to everyone...thanks for your time and energyâ€? The film can be viewed at: www.footballartsacademy.org.uk
Easter activities The Easter holiday was packed with a range of fun activities for club members to take part in. Many took part in action paintballing in Henfield, photography for the Youth Arts Fringe Festival, swimming at The Triangle in Burgess Hill and video-making at Brighton Marina.
Clubs for young people Clubs For Young People, the UK network fot youth centres featured the Crew Club in its annual report.
The 2-page report described the work of the clubs staff including founders Darren Snow MBE and Lorraine Snow MBE and used pictures of the recording studio and sport facilities.
