Omalos Day Trip Sunday 8 March
Cost: $10 for U.S. active-duty personnel, $15 for everyone else. Bring euro for lunch. Register by: March 4 at Community Recreation, 266-1288. Join MWR for a ride up to the “White Mountains” and the entrance of the Samaria Gorge. Enjoy a day of exploring the Omalos plateau and sit down to a traditional Cretan meal.
Cretan Cooking Class Saturday 21 March 9:00 a.m.
Cost: $5, transportation will be provided from base. Register by: March 18 at Community Recreation, 266-1288. Cretan food is full of wild herbs, high-quality olive oil, dairy products made mainly from goat milk, olives, tasty fruit and vegetables, wild greens, goat meat, and thyme-honey. Participants will spend four hours preparing and tasting a five-course meal.
Imbros Gorge Hiking Trip Sunday 22 March 8:00 a.m.
Cost: €39, price includes transportation, guide and entrance fees. Register by: March 19 at Community Recreation, 266-1288. One of the deepest and narrowest gorges in Crete, the 8km hike begins in the mountains and ends in the tiny village of Komitades.
