Lohre & Associates, Inc. Green Cincinnati Education Advocacy Sun Sugar Farms customer Chuck Lohre is a green machine! As president of Lohre & Associates Marketing Agency, Chuck also has a passion for the environment. He gets 100 mpg in his 2000 Honda Insight and rehabbed his second story brick row house office to be the highest ranking LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) project in Cincinnati. Chuck’s office improvements included installing a sawdust pellet stove for heat and recycling 100% of the construction waste: 11 pounds of carpet scraps and 1 pound of aluminum miniblinds. Building off his architectural background he’s become an expert in the Green Building industry and how to effectively market it.

Chuck shares three ways his office conserves energy which could also help you in your office or home: 1. Use LED and compact fluorescent lights. Chuck saves $50/month in his 800 square foot office space by including these. 2. Install a greywater harvesting system. Water for toilets account for 1/3 of water used in a home. The 2-in-1 sink and toilet cuts consumption by 74% by using water from washing your hands to fill the toilet’s tank. 3. Energy star equipment is a proven way to cut back on utility bills and reduce greenhouse gases. What does Chuck think is the hardest part about being an environmental fanatic? These are the sweetest of the sweet! To maintain the delicious flavor of any tomato, remember this: DO NOT REFRIGERATE. Let’s repeat. For maximum flavor: DO NOT REFRIGERATE! And rinse thoroughly!
A tomato’s flavor is a result of an interaction between sugars, acids, and multiple volatile compounds. Refrigeration causes those flavor volatiles to breakdown and hardens the tomato’s surface texture. Storing at room temperature creates more volatiles. Our sun sugar cherry tomatoes are grown without chemicals, picked at the peak of ripeness and delivered unrefrigerated fresh to our markets. Set them on your counter for easy access. Prevent fruit flies by loosely covering them with a towel. Keep some in your car for a healthy snack when on the road. In addition to supplying to Kenton County Schools and small local markets, it was our honor to supply our sustainably-grown sun sugars in quart containers to select Kroger stores in the Cincinnati area these past two seasons. Bet you didn’t know it was fuzzy, huh? Most frozen edamame comes from China and although we buy a lot of things from China, food is not on our list. Our non-GMO edamame seeds are grown without chemicals or pesticides and the pods are hand-picked to ensure maximum pod fulfillment and tenderness.
